Credit goes to Spartan at the NerfSG forum for detecting and solving this issue.

Some users who have modded their Nerf Stampedes may have encountered an odd issue whereby their blasters continue firing even after they release the trigger, resulting in erratic firing operation.

Here is a cause of this phenomenon:



The Stampede's Plunger Catch Control Spring has somehow popped out of position and no longer functions properly.

The solution is to remove the catch control component and reposition the spring back to its original position, then install it back into the Stampede.



An even better option is to replace the stock catch control spring with a stronger spring of the same size, then applying some tape to the gaps to prevent the spring from popping out again.

I have tested installing stronger aftermarket catch control springs into many modded Stampedes and have noticed an improvement in operational reliability and firing consistency.

This should solve the Stampede's "auto-running" and erratic firing issues!

Wow, interesting! I assume this fixes the problem even at higher voltages? Strange that it works properly at lower ones but not higher.

Yes, i've tested it on a few modded Stampedes and it fixes the "auto-running" issues at all voltages and RoF.

I think its probably due to higher RoF that causes the spring to somehow get dislodged during usage, so it could be a good idea to seal the gap where the spring usually pops out from to prevent future issues arising.

Well, I just pulled apart my Stampede and, sadly, it looks like my catch spring was still in place. So either this is not the sole cause of the automatic firing issue, or maybe the default spring is not strong enough? Did you replace the springs on yours with stronger ones or just put them back in place?

Strange... looks like there are other things causing that issue in your unit.

I tested with both the stock catch control spring and a stronger aftermarket spring i found in my springs box (one of my Stampede's catch control springs was mangled and had to be replaced), and both worked the same in solving the "auto-running" issue.

Yep, just confirming that I replaced the stock catch spring with a stronger one, and the blaster still continues to fire automatically with higher voltage. Not really sure what else could be causing the issue other than the electronics themselves. (?)

How high did you push your voltage during testing?

It's possible something in the electronics was damaged from to much voltage.

I only ever used about 16 volts total (2x fully-charged 7.2v battery packs) and it started having the problem immediately. Also, when I return to using the standard 9v, the blaster works perfectly. So I don't really think the electronics are damaged, but just for some reason the blaster goes haywire at 14-16v.

It may be that your blaster is just a defect. It got past quality control because it worked fine at regular voltage.

Okay... so far from my experience working on dozens of modded Stampedes and along with the experience of other Stampede modders, we have found that mis-aligned or bent plunger catch control springs are one of the main causes of erratic firing operation.

Higher RoF can increase the chance of the spring popping out, but i have seen it occur in stock Stampedes too.

Therefore if any Stampede user notices something odd with their unit's firing operation, one of the first things to check is the plunger catch control spring.

It seems the stock catch control spring is very weak and gets mis-aligned or bent easily.

I have also installed stronger aftermarket catch control springs into many modded Stampedes and noticed vastly improved firing consistency, especially for Stampedes with chronic erratic firing issues.
