OK. So the new Nerf camo ammo has been hitting Targets across America for $20. I've had mine for about 2 days and wanted to share my thoughts about them with everyone. So far, as I've seen, only the Snow Digital Whistler camo and Woodland Digital Suction Cup camo are at Targets. There is a streamline camo too, as seen from Hasbro.com, but it is not available yet. So here we go.







Each camo set comes with a pouch whose colors match the Nerf darts. It comes with 50 camo darts, and advertises that the pouch can hold 100 Nerf Darts(but I think it can hold more, if your darts are in perfectly straight). On the inside of the pouch/bag, there is a removable divider that you can use to divide your bag into two parts. On the back of the bag, there are two loops that you can fasten a belt or the bandolier strap through so you can carry it with you.


Now on to the darts. In performance, the woodland suction cup darts preform about the same as the regular blue/black/glow-in-dark suction cup darts. No range difference. But with the snow whistlers, I find that they get a a good 5-10ft. more than regular whistler darts. My hypothesis: Each and every camo Nerf dart is different. Hasbro makes these darts the way they make most darts, but with added step at the end. The base color to the woodland suction cup darts is brown and the base color to the snow whistlers is white. Hasbro then adds 2 different colors on top of the base colors to make that camo effect. The colors added on top of the darts is not colored foam, but I consider it like a temporary tattoo material(I have no idea what it is called). These "tattoos" are placed on the darts in the same relative location, but since the darts are round, are in different spots on the dart(It is hard to explain so just look at the picture. The woodland suction cups darts show it better than the snow whistler).
Now when I try putting a snow whistler in a maverick, it feels tight when going in(haha i get it twss). I think this is because of the "tattoo" colors on it, which make a perfect plug in the barrel, forcing the are to completely push the dart out of the barrel, with no air escaping out the sides. Now I don't know why this doesn't affect the suction cup camo, but that is just what I've seen using my camo darts.

I hope this helps people that are teeter-tottering on buying camo darts. Now the two most important cons to camo darts are: 1. they are kind of expensive. and 2. You will lose them easier than regular darts. I'd recommend them for an indoor Nerf war, but the idea of taking these outside is outside of the question. But on the plus side you get a bag that is more maneuverable than the ammo box. The choice is yours but I hope this helps.

What I don't like about these things is that they're going to be impossible to find. It's already difficult enough for me to find black/grey stefans in the grass.

I like how the case has a divider. This would make it easy to divide streamlines the rest of your darts. That way when you have to reload a clip, you're only pulling out streamlines.

I don't think this is worth $20, but that depends on the nerfer.

The box says that it can also hold clips. I don't know how many but I will try it right now.


Edit: It can hold 3 clips with the divider in place, so 6 all together.

What if you lay them down flat without the divider? Or would the demensions of the box just make it the same amount?

If you take out the divider, you can fit 7 clips in vertically.



If you put them down horizontally, you can stack 5 on top of each other and put 2 vertically on the side, for a total of 7.


Yes, I know that it looks like you can fit another clip horizontally. I took this pic before I realized you could put 5 on top of each other.
I would rather hold them all vertically, though. I think it looks better.

It seems the pouch is of far more interest than the darts themselves, although i can see why that's the case. Holding that many clips in a small and convenient package is a huge plus, and 100 stock darts (what i would imagine to be 150 Stefans) is not to be sniffed at.

Load the pouch up with clips, put in as many as you can. Attach to your belt. now SPRINT.

This is the real litmus test of gear in my oppinion, I have rigs that allow me to carry a ridiculous number of guns, clips and ammo.... if I feel like 'brisk walking' the entire war. I need pouches that will hold shit when I have to start running flat out after the flag.

Aj hit it right on the head. The design says it can hold the clips and darts or up to 100 darts. If you over pack it and try to run, everything will fall out.

The velcro straps need to be replaced with a buckle, or buttons.
It may be camo, but it still has nothing on my old school GameBoy fanny pack. Big pouch in front with a zipper, and another smaller one in the back (originally games front, GameBoy back).
But seriosuly, that velcro just seems like all kind of bad news.

Like previously stated, this need buckles instead of velcro. I think it would be a cosmetic improvement as well as an improvement in function.

Honestly depends on the grade of Velcro used. I used some inductrial strength velcro to secure a racing controller to my old desk. The wheel was nice and solid the entire time, and when it came time to remove the velcro because I'd replaced teh wheel with one that came with clamps, the vecro took part of the desk's laminate fionish with it.

The only worry would be securing it to something else (whether a belt or bandolier). Due to the obvious weight of darts and clips in nerf, the strength of the velcro is irrelevant unless we're talking about a ridiculously small amount of velcro holding it together (such as a small round tab no bigger than a quarter). Fastex type buckles would also incur a higher cost of manufacture, though in reality anyone could add just such a buckle from anywhere as this material isn't thick enough to be a problem in most sewing machines.

Not sure the darts are worth the $20, but having a pouch purpose-built for clips and darts like this is definitely a step in the right direction. Now if only they just threw on four such pouches on the front of the tac vest and it would be more worthwhile...
