So I am making a semi-automatic homemade based off of the magstrike but i don't quite understand how the big white piece at the top of the picture works. Can anyone help me?

When you pull the trigger, air goes from the bladder, through the Magstrike valve , and up to the piston. The air pushes the piston forward, while also pushing air through the two holes at the front of it, which shoots the dart. Inside the piston there is a very low tension spring, which cycles the piston back and forth. I apoligize for the half-ass explaination, but I'm sure someone else can explain better.

I understood it but I wanted to make sure i got it right. I am designing one in Paint right now.

There's a thread where someone already made diagrams, gutted it and everything. Search for it. If you can't find it, there should be a link to it in my Nerf MG thread.

Got it but i was thinking of starting from scratch not using the piece from the magstrike.

The magstrike valve is not made for semi-auto so there's no reason to base a semi-auto design off of one. Look into QEV's and Directional Control Valves if you want efficient semi-auto. Do some actual research before posting in this thread again.
