In case you never login when you lurk yet actually care about your account...

I'm going to start regularly cleaning users out of the database who
  • Have never posted
  • Were last active over a year ago
I'd rather not delete people who've posted (ever) because I would prefer to keep the lovely red "Unregistered" tags unique to those who have fallen from grace in our little family.

I could pull a Hal and work my way up to several thousand members in the database who could give a shit about the site, but I think I'll clean it out instead. We're not really out to impress anyone with our membership numbers - I think it's more useful as an accurate reflection of the people who are interested in Nerf.

Nice idea. It all ways bugged me that some people join just for the hell of it and don't post every so often.

I wonder how many members NHwould be if we didn't include those people (and/or people who have been deleted).

Don't really feel like looking for the old topic, but I believe Cx said that in the last seven days about 100-150 people have posted.

Corect me if I'm wrong.

Is this trend going to repeat itself later on, deleting pathways to thread history? I know I used to search the NO and NC boards via member name, to try and back old debates and ideas, and though NH has not quite reached that kind of maturity yet, I just worry that this sort of cleanup will see the deletion of useful threads in the future.

[I'm one of those packrats who keeps logs of just about everything possible. Invaluble sometimes, such as when you forget a special occasion :P.]

I think deleting threads is a bad idea, Zero. At least I think that's what you're getting at.

And I agree with you too, Cx, the unregistered title is about the worst you can get, so you should only delete people with no accounts. As for a year, I think that's a bit long. If you do it manually, I think a time like 6 months is more appropriate, but if you're coding it somehow, I think a year will work fine.

I won't delete any threads. Ever. That's why I don't want to purge any user who has posted, even if their last action was a week after the site launched.

It just seems a bit silly to have over a hundred users who signed up for accounts and never posted anything. Some of them haven't logged in for quite some time so it's probably safe to assume they won't be back to use them.
