Time for North-Eastern Indiana to represent! I can't think of a more central location for Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Indiana Nerfers to all come together than good ol' Fort Wayne. Of course, I'm kind of biased seeing as I won't have to drive for hours to Nerf here... :)

So who's up for making the trip? I've got several guys lined up here - some of which have never been to a Nerf War before (fresh meat!) but are really excited about the idea.

If I seem to have forgotten anything in the rules/info, let me know. If the date doesn't work for most people, I might be persuaded to change it - though it would probably be pushed into mid-late July at that point.

When:

Saturday, June 19th, 2010
10:00 am until we are beat (probably around 5:00-6:00 pm)

Please try to arrive a bit early (~9:45) so that the first round can start promptly at 10:00 am.

Where:

Glenwood Park Elementary School

(Several backup locations are available if for some unforseen reason this one doesn't work out.)

What to bring:

- A Primary (more than one is a good idea - in case you have breakage!)

- A single-shot pistol (should shoot around 50 feet of less, and require both loading & cocking for each shot - speed loader/turrets/etc will not be allowed for pistol-only rounds)

- Darts (stock, single-bb+hot glue or slug-style or similar only - no slingshot weights)

- Eye protection - anyone under 18 MUST wear it. 18+ at your discrestion, and at your own risk.

- Lunch / Money - There are lots of fast food places within a 10 minute drive. You are of course welcome to bring a bag lunch and eat on the field during the lunch break.

- Water (I might be bringing a water cooler, but it wouldn't hurt to have your own on-hand - there probably won't be any available on-site.)

- Proper clothing - It will most likely be rather warm. Also, don't be a moron and show up in camo unless it is neon pink or something.

- Any and all missle/rocket/ball shooting weapons you might have access to. You might find they come in handy during one of the game-types...

- Melee weapons and shields will be permitted - see below...

What not to bring:

- Dangerous blasters/darts/etc - i.e. no metal spikes, wooden "gunblades", no tack-darts, etc. Blasters will be banned if they are deemed unsafe for any reason, including firing way too hard. No blanket bans will be imposed, but it is unlikely that your singled Titan will be used unless it is fairly underpowered. (No, "I will only pump it X times" will not be acceptable!)

- Blasters or other gear that could be mistaken for actualy weapons (i.e. black-painted blasters, silver "knives", etc.) should be left at home.

- Participants under 13 years old MUST be accompanied by a parent or a responsible adult (18+) who will assume full responsibility for the youngling's actions, attitude and safety.

Miscellaneous Information:

- If you act like a 3-year-old, we'll send you home like a 3-year-old.

- Please clean up after yourselves - a trash bag will be provided, and everyone is expected to participate in dart-sweeps.

- Please keep the loud outbursts and swearing to a minimum - we will most likely be playing in a schoolyard and don't need any passers-by to have reason to complain about us.

- Gametypes will be determined mainly by popular opinion - but we will likely be playing mostly objective-type games (CTF, Sieze the Balls, etc). Meatgrinder will most likely be used as the first round and the post-lunch round - it is just a great way to get warmed up!

- We will break for lunch around Noon, probably for 30-45 minutes.

Melee & Shield Rules

Melee weapons will be allowed, though they should conform to a few basic rules.

- No metal should be used in the construction of the Melee weapon.

- All striking surfaces should be covered with foam.

- Unmodified, store-bought plastic toy lightsabers will be permitted without regard to the above two rules. Lightsabers are cool. Bonus points if you use them with batteries for that lovely hum & glow. :)

- Anything I deem ridiculous or dangerous will not be allowed.

- Melee weapons can be used for blocking darts just like shields (see below) - but only if they are in your hand. If your Melee weapon is holstered, a hit on it counts just like a gun hit.

(thanks to Ryan McNumbers for the basis of these Shield Rules)

You'll be limited on the maximum size of your shield depending on what blaster you're wielding. This will be the standard ruling for most gametypes. Here is the breakdown. (Your most powerful blaster is what counts here.)

Melee Only = 3 sq/ft
[The largest blocking face of the Melee weapon(s) counts as part of the maximum shield area.]

One Single shot pistol, ranges < 50' - 2 sq/ft

Anything else, ranges <50' - 1 sq/ft

Blasters shooting over 50' will not be allowed to use a shield.

Shields may be used to deflect darts - hits on shields do not count as long as the shield is in your hand, strapped to a blaster that is in your hand, or strapped to your forearm. A shield strapped/slung anywhere else will not block hits - it will count the same as a gun hit.

Balls, missiles, rockets, etc. (basically any ammo larger than a Mega dart) may not be blocked by shields or Melee weapons - a hit on a shield or Melee weapon with ammo of this type will count as a normal hit.

Shields can be made from whatever, cardboard should be reinforced with duct tape. Shields that do not meet the specifications for Melee weapons may not be used as such. (i.e. Don't go whacking people with a large wooden shield!)

I'm a possibility as well. Once a location is set I'll know more and once the date is closer.

I undertsand the part about "once the date is closer", but as for "once a location is set" - this is Fort Wayne, not Chicago. You can literally drive from one side of town to the other in less than 20 minutes, and all the way around the place in like an hour. :)

I hope you make it - your presence would surely up the fun level a bit, and keep me from being 10 years older than anyone other than my own crew that shows up. :)

I may come... It's about a 3 hour drive for me (from Columbus). My friend said it to was too far for him, but my brother might be interested. Maybe for now, I'll try to confirm when the date gets closer so I know more about my schedule and the location/attendance (which is what Demon Lord meant, I think.

Two questions are doomsayers allowed, and will anyone there provide slug style darts?

Doomsayers are not banned. If it becomes obvious that nobody can compete with it (which I doubt) we might ask you to lay it down for a round or two - basically just to ensure that everyone is having fun. However, since the teams will be switching up every round or two, it shouldn't be too big of an issue.

As for providing darts - if any of the U3 folks come, I'll try to talk them into bringing their fantastic dart bucket - otherwise I just don't have the resources for providing darts for anyone other than my own guests (most of whom are not really much involved in Nerf...yet). Of course, there will quickly be lots of darts scattering the ground - especially if any HAMPs make an appearance.

If anyone posts here offering to bring extras to share, then you will have a more definite answer.

Also, seeing as we are still nearly a month out, there should be time to make/buy some if that is all that is holding you back. :)

Says the guy with 3 kids and a wife.
I'll do my best to try and be there but I must ask, fun how? Fun as in "How did he pull that shot off?!" or "Oh god he's charging us!!"?

Hush you - my kids keep me young. (And you forgot to mention "old and fat" in there somewhere!!!)

Also, I mean fun as in I enjoyed your game play whether you were on my team or my sworn enemy - because your attitude is similar to mine - win or lose we're still having more fun than anyone else in the park who isn't Nerfing! :D

Oh, and Josh is a very solid maybe - he just has to butter up the wife enough for her to say yes. He says if you can drag Shorts down for the war, you guys can re-form the Unholy Alliance and crush all opposition.

See, I wasn't going to go there, but you did so I will. Doesn't help I'm 2/3rd your weight and started running since Cataclysm.

I have a wild style of nerfing, a lot of people regard me as a wild card on the field and enjoy facing me for just that reason.

And we'll see about the Unholy Axis...we'll see what happens.

So is this an indoor war then?
And in regards to ammo, would converted streamlines be allowable or should I cut down the tips and felt tip them?

Going along with Demon Lord, is this inside? There seems to be adequate fields outside, however you say,

- Darts (stock, slug-style or similar only - no slingshot weights, no hot glue domes only)

Hot glue and BB stefans (THE standard) hardly hurt at all, as well as do a good job at capping off ranges, if that is of concern. Even fishing weight darts are fairly pain-free, especially in comparison to the heavy slingshot weight darts.

I will agree, slingshot weighted darts hurt like a hell, and playing without those is fine with me; but banning all hot glue tipped darts (If I read your post correctly) seems to go pretty far, unless we're inside. The lighter BB and 3/0 fishing weight are pretty tame, they don't leave nearly the mark of slingshot weighted darts.

I guess I'd need clarification on the dart requirements. I don't have anything but BB and 3/0 fishing weigh darts. The felt disks are too wide for some of the narrower foams (fitting cpvc), the felt is larger than the foam, causing fit to be way too tight in cpvc.

No - we are definitely playing outside - those semi-wooded areas behind the school are perfect for Nerf. The tree-covered areas are very similar to Lake Ellyn park.

The slug-style dart rule is fairly standard in the U3-held wars, but I might consider dropping the rule and allowing hot glue domed single-BB darts if it means a higher attendance. Personally, I'm cool with the pain level, but I thought I would get a better response from the Chicago-area folks if I added that rule. So let's hear it from you folks - sound off on whether you want non-slug darts allowed or not. (If you aren't at least considering attending, please mind your own business and don't bother chiming in on this - it only affects those who will be playing!)

Demon Lord - by "converted streamlines" you are talking about the ones with hot-glue filled heads and a bb weight inside, right? I'd say if we stick to the slug-style only, those won't be allowed, but if we change the rule over to bb+glue dome, they would be more than acceptable.

Slight chance but I may be able to go to this. Might have a baseball game though. I am very pleased to see an Indiana war and it's relatively close to me! Also, get to return to the city I was born in! Count me as a maybe.

Actually they are just hot glue, I've found the bb weight is unneeded for my longshot, which happens to be the only thing it can fire. I have yet to convert it or my 8 clips plus raider drum into firing stefens.

And my vote is as long as no micros are slingshot weighted, I don't care.

Well, since nobody else seems to have an opinion - and I was up in the air to begin with - I am changing the dart restrictions. Hot glue domes are allowed, but single-bb weights only. No slingshot weights or anything else ridiculous.

(Obviously, Demon Lord, your converted streamlines will be just fine now.)

OK - DarkMatter is the first to man up and say he'll be there. Now let's start hearing some "me too's" so that this war can be a great success!

Alberta? Are you kidding me?

Don't get me wrong, if you are willing to make the trip, you are more than welcome to show up - but there is likely to be somewhere around 10-20 guys at this war, and that is quite a long haul, even if you live in the farthest SE corner of Alberta. I don't think any of the Minnesota guys are even making the trip...
