That looks pretty beastly so far but you never can tell until you get ranges. ...

Deception and lies! Range is not so critical. Anyway he already addressed this:

... . Range is one of those things that's hard to put a number on since this gun runs off an adjustable regulated air supply. I can dial to any power I like, really. When I get some darts made I'll try to make a list of supply pressures and their corresponding ranges.

I should also say that I think that design is beautiful. Simple design, straightforward assembly; it looks almost like you could just post the materials list and cut lengths and people could build it with just that picture and the list. Excellent work.

I second this. Please post the materials list. I really want to build something like this just for kicks.

Ok I see! The trigger has a bit of free swing to it. Does that ever get in the way of the firing process?

Also the shorter magazine looks a lot better. Nice Job on this beast.

What's the silver-colored component with the knob, behind the control valve? Is it one of the clippard regulators?

That's a pressure gauge and a tee. Clippard's regulators are bigger than that and made of brass.

I think I could do any RoF with a turret. As with FANG prototype 3, which you've already seen, I am going to use a turret for FANG prototype 4. The main difference will be the size of the gun.

With any sort of barrel mover or projectile pusher configuration, this RoF doesn't seem impossible. The limiting factor would be reliability, as you are aware.

What keeps me from using shells is the inconvenience and slow loading. My FANG project obviously has many similarities with this project, but I have very different goals and I think you'll see that when I roll out the next version. ;)

What's RSP-Skeleton mean, by the way? Just a neat sounding name?

Edit: You might find this design matrix that I used to get an idea of the effectiveness of different designs to understand my goals a little better: http://trettel.org/f...tMechanisms.png

Turrets rank #1 among the mechanisms selected for examination for my application. This is all subjective, of course, but it gives me a good idea of what to choose.

I have a Nerf Firefly turret that I could use, but I'm going to make something with fused deposition modeling and manual machining. Manually machining everything is still an option, too.

My barrels should be about 4 to 8 inches long based on the math I've done. They aren't your typical "full length" barrels, but they certainly will be the optimal length. And there is no weight problem with PETG. Also, having no interface between the turret/clip and the barrel is simpler from a construction standpoint and better from a seal standpoint.

There is a speed advantage to swapping clips, but I'm not confident that it will be significantly faster than rear loading darts. A fixed turret is simpler, and I don't want to carry clips around.

The weights are completely subjective, though they are largely based on an approach I learned in a product development class that develops weights based on rankings. The ratings are less subjective, but not completely objective. I'm sure someone could take issue with my ratings.
