Product Safety Awareness Thread
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I realized we should have a thread consisting of dangers and such when using building materials and guns and recalls, etc. etc. I’ll start off and I’ll update the list every other week or so. I realize it’s a bit small, but that’s why there is other members beside myself.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Blasters and Hazards:

Nerf Recon CS-6 1st Edition
Dangers/Hazards:
-Skin can get caught in moving plunger tube located at the rear of the blaster.
-Blaster has been recalled and all new-generations have protective black tubing.

Building Materials and Hazards:

Hot Glue Gun
Dangers/Hazards:
-Do not leave Low-Middle Class High-Temp glue gun(s) on for an extended period of time, Gun(s) can heat up and burn materials around it and will burn and waste hot glue sticks.
-Make sure to keep Glue Gun away from skin when making Dart Domes or gluing something. Skin can swell and bleed from major burns while minor burns sting for a while after being burned.
-Do not apply over super glue as trouble breathing may occur.

Super Glue of Any Kind
Dangers/Hazards:
-Do not apply excessive amounts of glue to the same area without proper ventilation and mask protection; if chemicals are breathed in, trouble breathing may occur.
-Do not apply over hot glue as trouble breathing may occur.
-Wear gloves or be very careful when applying super glue as if it comes in contact with your fingers, your fingers will stick together and skin may peel away.

Spray Painting
Dangers/Hazards:
-Avoid painting in an inclosed area without proper ventilation and mask(s) as breathing in the paint chemicals will cause you to get dizzy or confused.
-Avoid painting blasters without plastic safe paint; never use oil-based paints when painting either.

Epoxy
Dangers/Hazards:
-Avoid using cheap epoxy as I have found it very hard to work with and doesn’t hold objects together very well.
-Always mix epoxy goop? On a surface such a scrap piece of wood or something not near and dear to you, I would advise using it for other mixings as well.

Band sawing/Sawing in general
Dangers/Hazards:
-Always wear protective safety goggles when working with any material.
-Always keep your fingers clear of the blade.
-Use a vice or something to stabilize your material for cleaner cuts and a less percentage of cutting yourself.
-Never use a dull blade as using a blade is just dumb and will not correctly cut your material
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know there is alot more out there than just what I have posted, I want your guys help for this one. I came up with dangers that have happened to me as well as just thinking about potential dangers when working with machines and machining Nerf guns. Please PM me or post here for more dangers that you have encountered.
Call me Rev
You call a wrap of e-tape a modification? It is just there to keep the breech more secure. Wow, you really are mentally retarted(Ryan Mcnumbers). -Nate the Great
You said to avoid epoxy. Why? I think it is a great adhesive, if you know how to use it. As for safety with epoxy ( and CA glue/ JB ) , it is important to apply it in a room with open windows. If you have noticed, epoxy smells like hell. Breathing that crap is not good for your brain, so open some windows or wear a face mask.
*Edit, I see you talked about the breathing hazard under super glue already, but it applies to epoxy as well, so I'll keep my post up. Also, it does not really affect breathing as much as it kills brain cells.
I feel like anyone with half a brain wouldn't have to worry about 1st gen Recons without the plunger shroud. I don't mean to offend anyone when I say that, because hey. Accidents do happen. All I know is I never had that problem, nor did I have reason to worry.
Most of this can be summed up with:
Don't cut or burn your self. Don't inhale solvents and adhesives.
Good idea for a post, but if people need to be told these things I say let Darwin have a whack at em. :blink:
No offense, but everything apart from the CS-6 recall is very basic safety and usually written in big red text all over the tool/product. Nerfer's parents shouldn't let them near things like saws, x-actos and hot glue guns if they haven't been told this stuff already. The CS-6 recall could be useful for a parent but not so much for an active nerfer/modder. A thread just for stock gun hazards and recalls could be a good idea, though, just for people with kids.
This guide is not at all useful. Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, knows that hot glue guns are hot and that super glue glues your fingers together if you get it on your hands. People also know that blades cut you and that a high strength adhesive/solvent will not come off perfect on what you are mixing it on.
The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?
