If at first you don't succeed, add more epoxy.

I might do this in addition. Since the hardware store sells pipe in 5' segments, I have plenty of extra.Stick a bunch of cpvc in there and make a shotgun. Other than that I don't know what you could use.
I was thinking about checking the larger foam sizes next time I get over to the store. I think its too skinny for most pool noodles, but combined with the tip below I might find something I can use.Another option would be to try out the different sizes of PVC insulating foam, or possibly different pool noodles.
I was wondering while I was out earlier how people using spudguns find potatoes that fit so well, and now I know. Its a pretty good idea. That craft foam idea is pretty good too. I tried to do the same thing with masking tape (I figured e-tape would be too sticky and couldn't find it anyways) but it didn't work at all.You also might be able to take another piece of the same pipe and "sharpen" the end like spudgunners do (bevel the outside edge all the way around), then use that to shave down or cut discs from some type of larger foam.
If you had some disks the right size for your barrel, you should be able to glue on other pieces of foam until you have a "sabot" into which you could insert the tail of your vortex footballs. Another option might be to cut a disk to your barrel size, then cut the center out until you have a ring that could be glued around the football bodies.
Or you might even simply find a thickness of craft foam that you can wrap around the football bodies.
Thanks everybody for the helpful responses. If anything works out I'll post an update.

Or glue the craft foam to the inside of the pipe till the football fits.
