As someone who has only recently been approved, but has (as most others) read the forums for months before that time, I'd just like to say "Thanks" for the recent crackdown I've noticed on the backseat modding thing. I think it'll do a lot to lighten up the atmosphere around here.
I mean, I know NH has it's thing--the elite, not for newbs, all that. And I know the mods are 100% entitled to be ruder or more sarcastic than is necessary, and (rightfully) no one really has a leg to stand on in that particular fight. I (like many others here) have been in charge of things, especially those for which I was not paid, so I understand the function of "my way or the highway."
And I think the only problem that was coming out of that was that some of the folks that have been around longer, have maybe run into a moderator or something at a war a few times.... It seems like they've started thinking that "Being an Unnecessary Dick to New People over Simple Mistakes" is one of the gimmicks of the SITE, instead of being one of the privileges of the moderation team alone. To them, it's like a game of whack-a-mole (whether or not a search could turn up at least 3 places they've necroed a post or accidentally put something in the wrong section).
Of course, then people not even as "seasoned" as those vets started thinking they could participate in the beatdowns--to make themselves feel better for all the flack they caught. And the problem has been happening earlier and earlier, more and more often.
And I'm just dropping a quick post to say thanks for taking the time to crack down on that. It makes threads a lot easier and more enjoyable to read, because it's not filled with one spelling error and FIFTEEN twats whinging about it. So, thanks.
And yes, Talio, I know you don't care.
