So, I recently got a RF20 from goodwill, and found that the pump was broken. I took it back to my workshop and fixed the pump. Unfortunately, I found that when I pumped it up and pulled the trigger, the gun just hissed and did not fire.

I've also had this same problem happen to a magstrike I found, and then sold for parts. Has anyone else had this problem?
Is the valve just fucked or what?

I have had this problem on my Magstrike. The problem could be that the air release button behind the trigger isn't depressed enough because it is out of place. So you need to move it closer to the trigger so the button can be depressed more further in. Hope this helps.

I've also had this problem with Magstrikes. I can feel the piston move back, but then it just hisses like you describe and it doesn't fire.

It is possible that you have a leak in the tubing AFTER the valve. But you will need to open it up completely to be able to locate the problem.

Open it up and look for leaks. When you find one smother it in gorrilla glue.

There are two thing that I'm suspecting.

A. The main piston or one of the fire control valves has misaligned internals.

B. Somewhere in the tubing between systems there is a leak.


For A, this is almost unfix-able without some serious know-how. It took my 5 magstrikes and an RF-20 for me to finally get it down right. What you would have to do is carefully disassemble the piston or fire control valve(s) and realign the parts correctly. Then you have to glue it in with some heavy duty glue without getting it on to some moving parts. This requires lots of time, patience, blood, sweat, and tears. you can't forget the tears...



For B, its alot simpler. simply remove the entire firing system from the shell, pump it up, and dunk it into a body of water. Operate and observe in the water, sealing up any possible leaks.



From what I understand, its not the latter, so your almost screwed unless you know how to correctly reverse engineer something or are really determined. I got lucky on my 7th try, which cost me quite a bit. the problem was that the holes drilled for the air to build up weren't complete, and the piston system was a bit 'sticky' due to friction.....wow, that is alot of words.

I'm going with SorrowX's suspicion A.
I have two MSs right now that are doing the same thing, I broke the trigger valve on one trying to fix it. One of them fires sometimes if I poke a pen in there and wiggle it around.

A problem I've had is crimped tubing that causes it just to hiss as you've described.

You might want to make sure you're not pumping your cat's tail instead of the pump, that could be the source of your hissing noise.
