As most of us know the Longstrike is basically a stretched out Recon but, of course, I impulsively bought one off the shelf for a mod that will be based off a gun from an anime/ video game series called Gungrave because I'm a dork... Before I do that mod (and assuming it turns out how I want it to) I wanted to do the standard mods for the Longstrike and figured I would also just do a write up in case anyone needed it.

Items Needed:
- Longstrike
- Philips Screwdriver
- Drill & long 1/4 inch drill bit
- Plumbers Teflon Tape
- 3/4 Inch Thin Wall PVC *Thin wall PVC at Lowes if it's Silver Line brand it should have PVC-1120 SDR 21 marked on it.*
- Dremel with Grinding and Cutting Accessory
- Compression Spring (Preferably Conical *Currently testing a CX-38 conical spring from http://www.Reidsupply.com*)

Unscrew the main blaster shell and you will see all of this:

To remove the air restrictors I used a 1/4 inch drill bit and drilled it out.
Posted Image
There appears to be no air escape holes on the barrel so you won't need to fill them in...

To increase the air seal use Teflon Plumbers Tape to wrap around the reverse plunger head (?please correct me on the terminology?) and then add the O ring back on.
Posted Image

Take the plunger tube and cut or grind the nub used as the loaded indicator off and try to make it as flat as you can. (This is optional if you plan on trying the internal powerstock)
Posted Image

Cut approximately 1/8 of an Inch piece of 3/4 inch thinwall PVC and slide that over your plunger tube (a small amount of dremeling may be needed) This will create a spacer to help the stock spring compress a bit more.

To Upgrade the Catch use an extra spring (possibly from a removed lock) and intertwine it into the Catch spring and then put the combined springs Back on the Catch.
Posted Image

The Internal powerstock is ridiculously simple. Take a 2 inch piece of 3/4 inch thinwall PVC grind it down a bit so that the Plunger tube can glide through easily with little to no friction. Line the powerstock up with the back end of the spring brace. Add a spring that compresses down to about 3/8 of an inch and it's done.

*Updated Spring info*

I ordered a couple CX38 springs from Reid Supply (http://www.reidsuppl....aspx?itm=CX-38 to test with this mod.
had to cut it down a little (about 1-1/2" long now) to allow the for the catch to engage when primed.

Due to the shortness of the spring I need to find a way to stabilize the spring in the powerstock... for a temporary fix I used some wire to rest it on and then glued them together... not the best fix but it's working temporarily until I think of something better that doesn't affect compression.
Posted Image

With this spring alone in the Longstrike (stock spring removed) it fires 15+ feet, which isn't bad for a supporting spring but I'll continue to look for better replacements.

Re-assemble the blaster and you are done.
Posted Image

The only hint that it has been modded will be when the gun is primed and there is no priming indicator but springs in it's place...

Thanks for reading.

Awesome internal powerstock. Too bad Hasbro's riding a Recon as it's gravy train though,

Hey, nice! The longstrike is a cool looking gun, and external powerstocks look... less cool... So great job!

Alright, I guess I'm going to be the bitch that asks about ranges. If you tested after the AR's were removed and only that mod done, what would you say the range increase was? Or if not, do you think you got a big velocity increase after adding the powerstock? How good's the accuracy on this gun as well, (doesn't pertain to the mod) I'm just curious.
Nice job on the write-up, its quite easy to follow. I'll come back to this if I need any reference when these hit my Targets and such.

How well does this powerstock preform compared to the traditional one? I'm hesitant to call this a powerstock, because you are simply increasing the space to fit a spring.

But don't get me wrong, I like this idea a lot. It seems much more simple and just as effective.

Also, how hard was it to find a replacement spring to fit over the plunger tube correctly?

On a related note, would you say the actual legnth of the power-stock matters a whole lot if you're using a stronger spring? I think that maybe it would be good to use a cut-down [k26] spring or something about that powerful in a slightly longer powerstock that extends out of the gun.

I haven't had a chance to do actual ranges because there's a foot or so of snow on the ground where I live. That being said, really the only thing I can use to compare (and is far from scientific) is shooting against a wall in my house that is approximately 25 feet away; with the powerstock rebounds about on average 2 feet (maybe 2 and 1/2) further than the non powerstocked using streamlines (which also throws the scientific method out of the window)... Also take into consideration I'm using a crap spring in the powerstock (I did this mod last night in about 15 minutes as a last minute decision to meet a personal deadline for myself and just found a crappy spring to cut down that would compress properly in the power stock as a proof of concept) but I just ordered some much stronger conical springs that will compress much more than a standard compression spring and should theoretically improve the performance of the power stock.

As far as your question about the power stock length... I'm far from an expert on power stocks considering this is at most a variation of one but I would think that if you are using a spring as thick as a [k26] you are going to want around a 4 inch area for the power stock so the spring has a more effective recoil...

Let's face it, the Longstrike, unless you do a complete overhaul of the internals (replacing the plunger system) it's not going to get amazing ranges and will probably not be an effective outdoors blaster. With this mod I wanted to give an option to help increase the ranges while keeping the gun clean... and when I can get ranges with the new springs coming in I will post them... but keep in mind the Groundhog told me there's at least six more weeks of winter...

I know the Longstrike isn't spectacular, and I'm not really hoping it will be; there are so many longshots out there, and I play indoors most of the time anyway, a good primary with a good rate of fire is vital. I inquired about the velocity mainly to know not as much range but if it's a good weapon to use.
And snow sucks, badly. It's been pretty warm but rainy up here in Washington this last January, so we haven't had to deal with much snow. (Not that we deal with any real snow any year)

I think it'll be a decent weapon for indoors. In my opinion the blaster does perform better than a raider or recon as far as velocity/ power. The dual clip holders in the stock are also a really nice touch and the gun is overall pretty comfortable. With all of the extra space inside this blaster it leaves a lot of room for future mods to make it even better so if you think you may want to pick one up go for it.

Oh and a sad bragging right for us in Cleveland now is we were declared the worst winter weather city by Forbes so I laugh at your rain as I try to figure out how to get my car out from under a 4 foot snow drift..

How thick should the coiled wire thing (bad vocab, heheh) that makes up the spring be? I picked up some springs, but I'd like to knoww how thick yours was so I can cut them down to appropriate size so as not to blow the back out.

mod lacks origionality. Based on a video game. End result is impressive yet questionable. Overall; nicely done. Kudos.

I'm not really sure what you're talking about...

Where's the "deadspace filler?" Did I completely miss that in the writeup?

Originally there was foam in the barrel, somewhat like a straw mod, but people said it didn't work. I guess it was just edited out.

I know this is a pretty old post, but where else can you get that kind of PVC? I've tried Lowes and Home Hardware, but they said they don't carry anthing that small.

And isn't it hard on the bolt sled with that extra spring for you? I kinda made a make-shift powerstock like yours with shower rod and a tek 3 spring. It like twists/bends the sled a little bit and it's hard to get it to catch even with a better catch spring. Any suggestions? :D
