So after getting some requests I thought I’d move from obscurity and step into the limelight. Flash Bang NF, First what is a flash bang, it is a grenade weapon thrown into an area that admits a blinding light, disorienting your opponent. So I thought how cool would it be to incorp this into a gun, NF’s are cheap and for the most part readily available. First go to a radio shack or electronic place and find the highest watt bulb you can the higher the brighter then replace the red led with your new one, this does involve some soldering work. The big problem I had was the current needed for the light was frying the board so I replaced the wires with a thicker gauge and I have what I want. If you can find a mini strobe light bulb this works to. This gun works great with night games and indoor and the effects on opponents are amazing. So far I have picked up over 18 NF it’s finding the time to mod them all is tricky. Now what to do with all the nf I fried, well I have a lazer point version and a micro mag one, both kickass indoor and at night. Also some of you have been having trouble with your mod of this gun Rags has a great one on this site, but there are a few steps that can be done to increase the weapon’s performance and stabilize the mod’s mechanics. Email if interested cause this post will be way too long if otherwise. ewdragonarmy@yahoo.com . I do have a lot more mods and concepts again just email and I’ll give details but some are still at the table phase but I wouldn’t mind sharing some of them. After seeing that butchered SA I have some great ideas to actually make people want to use the gun again, but finding the time to do it is another thing. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT SO READ if you do this mod then remember one thing, make sure no one you are playing with has epilepsy or any other reaction to bright or flashing lights. Why you may ask because you can induce a seizure with bright and flashing light.

Sounds like you liked Ender's Game alot judging by your name n' email. Personally, though, I don't think I really like the idea of blinding (and being blinded by) my friends. I've had some less-than-fun experiences with laser pointers...

I think that a Flash Bang grenade has the flash to blind your enemy and a bang to disorient and temporarily deafen them.

I think that upgrading the light in the Nite Finder, as OMC and you have both apparently done, is very cool, I will have to try it myself some time. I'm worried, however: how long is AA battery life with that kind of juice flowing? It sounds like you would need to replace them frequently. Otherwise, it's a great idea. The dart firing from a Nite Finder isn't extremely fast, so any way to confuse them when you fire is good. Though, it might be annoying if you're trying to be stealthy for one shot.

Laser pointers do damage to retina, flash just dilates the pupils and disorients, so you’re a bit safe. Janga your right about the bang part, and I put some thought into an airhorn idea, but in the end I wanted to save my ears from the pain. Go at least 1 or 2 gauges up from the existing wire and I’ve had better results with strobe light leds than bight bulbs (they tend to burn out quicker and drain the battery). I’ve had a few wars and have yet to change the batteries so far so good on life. Another trick is to use it as a trap. Set it up to fire and give away a position only to be flanked by another group or yourself in hiding.

Laser pointers do damage to retina . . . Another trick is to use it as a trap. Set it up to fire and give away a position only to be flanked by another group or yourself in hiding.

Okay, what?? I think that is what we're trying to avoid here, it's Nerf combat with foam darts. Besides, you would have to actually hit the retina directly with the focused beam from the laser pointer if you wanted to temporarily damage your opponent's eyes. Also, make your pistol into a 'trap'? What is that all about? I mean, we all wish we could be James Bond, driving our cars with our watches and other neat stuff, but this seems unrealistic. First you have to find a way to remotely switch on your strobe gun, then hope your enemy is foolish enough to come charging in for you to flank them somehow.

In general, I have reason to dispute the legitimacy of this modification.

The laser thing was for DLnL, to show that this mod is not the same as a pointing laser and can do NO harm to your eyes. The trap thing is not bond crap it is simply thinking ahead of your ememy. If I have a gun that makes a big flash everytime I fire chances are my enemy will see the flash and come a running knowing if I just fired then I have to reload. So you keep running and baiting your opponent till the advantage is yours, like having your team waiting to pounce your persuers. It is simple stratagy and formation here. And I would hardly call a piece of fishing wire tied in a loop around your gun hightech. When you nerf do you use any stratagies at all cause this is simple tactics 101 here.

The concept of temporarily disorienting your enemy through a flash sounds unique but are you sure it's safe? Is it possible that this can do any damage to a person's eye if used too much? Just wondering because the idea sounds good and before I try it I'd just like to know.

A friend of mine got a hold of a disposable camera with a flash and attached it to his foam sword (yeah I was one of those guys). Anyway in a night fight if he used it you were blind for 5 seconds or so. This bulb being discussed would be no more dangerous than a camera flash so it should be safe.

I looked directly into a laser pointer just to disprove that and now I'm... Well, farsighted. Which has little to do with the retina. Which means that the laser pointer did absolutely nothing to my retina in the 3 seconds I stared directly into the beam.

But who knows? Maybe I'll be blind in ten years.

I also used to use a camera flash to try and blind people, but this served no purpose in outdoor wars, given the distances. Indoor wars would be dandy, though.

Dude I wouldn't shine the laser pointer at my eyes anymore because I read something that said the effects of staring at a laser pointer happen in several years and if you look at it long enough you will go blind.

The thing to keep in mind is that this is a strobe light basically, the same kind used at clubs, shows, and what not. Other than inducing seizers in epileptic people, it is rather harmless. I recently bought a 90,000 sq ft building to move my corporate headquarters into, which is only using about 15,000 so that has left the other 75 for some rather great battles, so this gun gets a lot of use especially at night. Basically it is a bright light in dim light setting so its like getting up in the middle of the night and turning on the bathroom light (but minus the grogginess of just waking up mind you), it takes that second or two for your eyes to adjust but your not going to do any harm to yourself from doing it.

Yeah I know the strobe light won't do anything but the laser pointer will if you shine it in your eyes. So I'm just saying that with laser pointer mod you don't want to go around shining it in peoples eyes.

That's bad news for a friend of mine, he shined a laser pointers in both his eyes, just to disprove the theory, for about fifteen seconds and does it all the time to show off.

As I said, we'll see in a few years. I was a stupid little kid at the time, and I suspect it will be one of my larger regrets if reasonable damage occurs. I was looking into that laser for a good amount of time. Really pretty distribution patterns. ^_^

I really doubt the risk is so huge in terms of use on a Nerf gun, though. The chances of causing eye damage with that laser is at least on par with the chances of causing eye damage with the darts themselves.

And please, next time... Meet my new friend. His name is the paragraph.

We've played with a strobelight on once at around 12:00... Everything becomes split into frames. One frame the dart is five feet away, the next frame, it's in front of your head.

Anyways, try the idea out and come back with results.

Two acre plus warehouse? What company do you own/ run?

That's a big honking building. Build airplanes, maybe?

Anyway, the strobe type bulbs (usually xenon) require some kind of capacitive power supply to trigger the extra bright flash from the tube.

Perhaps the disposable camera idea, with what I can only guess is a small capacitor to build/ discharge the high voltage, could fit in the NFs small confines. Worth looking into. Flash-bang....pretty cool.

Although, there is that bang that Jangadance was talking about to temporarily deafen the opponent also, adding to his or her confusion. Maybe you should just call it the... Flash NF?

Piney- It is a medical billing firm and it is a big honking building. It is eight stories high with 3 elevators and 3 stairwells. The floors are for the most part completly open and 150 ft long which makes for some great battles. I'm thinking about hosting a weekend indoor war sometime this summer, or even doing golden-eye rules nerf battle.

About 40 min west of Pittsburgh, if I do host then I'd like to make it a weekend indoor war sleeping bags and all. Or possibly breaking down into 2 factions and setting up camps were it is a 48 hour war. Which would mean sleeping rotations , sentries, and pows. Any feed back on the idea would be appriciated, has anyone done this before?

Whoa, that'd be awesome. By the way, has anyone attempted something like that before? If so, how'd it turn out? I'm not sure how well sleeping rotations would work, but nighttime raids on the opposing camp would be fun as hell.
