April YANO Planning Thread

1. An absolute confirmation from Ray and/or Steve (and cohorts) so that I know we'll have at least a dozen people there. What days are good for people in April? I'm open to Sundays as well as Saturdays. I'd rather have an extra day to rest afterwards but if people will only come on Sunday then that's when we'll have the damn war.
2. We need a new location. Someone has to have some ideas here. I want a location with an area similar to the 'urban area'. I want a location with an absolutely clear understanding between us and the owner/authorities that we're allowed to play there.
Lets hear some dates and ideas people. I want to have a decent war again.

Locations of typical groups attending:
Northridge
West LA
Pasadena
San Diego
Walnut
Irvine
Irvine falls reasonably close to the midpoint between SD and Northridge - it's under 1.5 hours drive for everyone involved. I will consider the possibility of other locations but would prefer to keep it somewhere between north and south Orange County.
Essentially, this means the Chapman crew needs to do some scouting for us. I live just north of the area under consideration so I can check out some places in north county, but since there are several of you in OC proper, please give it some thought.

No, seriously, I think Bonelli Park seemed really promising. It's also closer to West L.A. then Venado.
I think that I'm free half the weekends in April. The week of April 9-16 is spring break, and we're going to Mammoth, so I don't think my dad will be willing to drive all that distance within two days of each other or so.

Basically, we could war at any of a hundred relatively uncrowded parks but we'd have to stay away from any buildings or playgrounds most of the time so they'd all be more or less the same grass and trees. I want an area comparable to the urban area because it lends a completely different aspect to the wars and it's fun to switch off between that and wide open CTF games.

A cohort?!!?All right, I'm not going to any more wars until I get two things:

Bitch
Anyways, I should be able to go, not sure about everyone else, but Cheeko and I are busy on the first weekend of april (band competition), possibly he second (regional band competition (though if its on Friday or Saturday is still unknown)), the third weekend is open, and the fourth weekend I believe I will be canoeing down the Colorado river with some friends...so I'd aim for the second or third weekends of April. I can give you no absolute conformation, but if we do come, we have enough people to possibly have to take two cars...
As for new areas, I have no idea about any, Bonelli Park sounds good, even though you pay to get in, I could see the park being a major war zone....but the fact that it is far away from food will make it difficult for the foreverly hungry people.
I'll bring updates as I can.

Better than consort, eh?A cohort?!!?
So where the hell is the input from our esteemed Irvine crew? I know only Spoon checks here with any regularity so he's going to have to organize the area hunt with Jordan, Matt, Jason, etc.
Grinch/Ice, I got the impression that both of you were just about at your folks' driving distance limit. Is that impression correct?
Ray, lets see that schedule you promised me.
Steve? STEVE?! Damn. Toj, go poke Steve.

Scratch the second weekend regional, it was moved directly to April 30th, so I'm positive I'm open during the second and third weeks of April.
-If Everyone goes as planned it could be Steve, Jon, Mark, Brendon, Drew, Jeff, possibly Long, Sam (Sam do you even want to come anymore?), and I. So hopefully nine-ish people from down here.
And as to poking Steve...I'll save that for tomorrow in history

Yes, that impression is fairly correct. Although, if I could get Bobert to come, then my dad could take us there, and his mom or dad could drive us home, or vice versa.Grinch/Ice, I got the impression that both of you were just about at your folks' driving distance limit. Is that impression correct?
Oh well, hope that Bobert can come for the sake of a larger war and more time there for us.

Yes, which leads me to my next point: I don't think I'll be coming to the next YANO. My parents are very protective, and they were already mad enough at me going to Nerf with a bunch of guys I don't know. On top of that, my dad didn't really like how there were no kids my age there besides Zeke. Besides, Irvine is way too far away. If you can find a location somewhere closer to the San Fernando Valley, I'll come, but I don't want you changing all of your plans just for me.Grinch/Ice, I got the impression that both of you were just about at your folks' driving distance limit. Is that impression correct?

It's a shame your first war with us was the one that all the other kids your age flaked on. Maybe you can push for Armageddon in June - we should get at least 20 guys out for that one.

I am out of the country the first and second weekends in April. I MAY have some time to scout next week but I leave next Friday so I don't know, I'm awfully busy these days.
I'll ask Matt, Jason, Hubbard and Jordan.

1) the full schedule i promised in on the way. i can say that sunday the 18th, i am available, except that it is holocaust remembrence day, and i'll need to be remembering really hard about the holocaust. other than that there is nothing on my calendar, and unless there is some emergency, i can make sure there will be nothing on my calendar that day.
the 17th, looks like it is the LA Junior + Cadet Fencing Invitational, which i was looking forward to, so that looks doubtful for me, at least for the whole day.
all in all, i'd much rather have a sunday war, just because i'm generally always busy during the morning/early afternoon on saturdays.
2) what happened to castle park? i remember seeing pictures of spoon with about 90% less facial hair and a bunch of kids in a bunch of low res pictures at a place called castle park. it looked really sweet.
EDIT: my spring break started today at 2:30, in case that's important information, and i go back the 5th.
