That was an issue I had. I would sit in the back of the room last year and wireless LAN games of Starcraft with people all around the school, and one time the teacher asked what I was doing. I alt-tab'ed to the "notes" I was taking, and he flipped out, yelled at me, and said he was gonna take my laptop. So of course, I kept playing StarCraft. The VAIO you linked would work pretty well for gaming, as long as you go into the BIOS and devote some more RAM to the graphic chipset.
I've always like VAIOs. They look really sleek, and their build quality seems pretty good. K9, is the keyboard on that model backlit? If so, then thats probably the model I'll buy when I go off to college.
On the laptop subject, never buy HP.
The Fw line doesn't usualy have the backlit keys, but you really don't need it, especially if you need to game covertly in class.

Just build a gaming machine for DX11. You could put together an AMD/ATI machine for under $800, even less if you don't care about a case, and just have it all open. The only problem I find with that VAIO is that the ATI HD 4650 doesn't support DX11...Lol otherwise it's pretty much a steal. I'm gonna consider that...except the weight...

I'm completely working on a TF2 medic costume, already built a good bit of the gun:P
ANYWAYS, I would like to make a suggestion to all of you:
Global Agenda is an awesome game and major patches are being released this summer and everytime they release one it goes on massive sale.
BUY IT
No joke, I love the fuck out of this game, its insane. Its like a shooter, but like an mmo, but its awesome, go check it out. as of now I'm getting close to 250 hours in the past MONTH.
And engie update! YAY! I like all the new shit in the game, makes being an engie ass esier sometimes. I've gotten back into playing tf2 recently (I had a Global Agenda addiction which I'm working on kicking) which brings me to another point.
I'MA MAKE A GROUP ON STEAM CALLED ^NHTF2^
I'ma lead it, and pretty much I'll make events and we can go play on servers. I'll see if I can link it to the main NH page
Happy shooting!
Xj, Mr. Sandvich
(someone send me a gun and some screw drivers, I havent made anything in a year:P)

Edit: It runs smoothly until I get to that part where the elevator is moving. Then it's slowdown city. I tired to play online, but I couldn't find any games or create my own. I donno if it's a problem with the game or my connection. It's pretty fun though.

TF2, I'm not very good yet, (got it for mac, only play occasionally because Real life is keeping me busy and i'd rather do nerfy things than sit in front of my computer for more hours) But I'm still a Grim Bloody Fable
Don't call it a comeback, I never left.

Ati HD 5670 with 512MB(or 1GB if you really want) DDR5 . Any iX processor or Phenom II x4 + should be fine. So, I'm kinda on the line with Macbooks right now, and I'm willing to save up for a nice gaming desktop. Should be able to run Sony Vegas 9, Steam, and stuff like that just fine for the next couple years. Any suggestions? Busta?

EDIT: Btw guys who were talking to me about laptops, I'm probably getting a Lenovo Y560(i5 + ATI HD 5730) or Y460(i5 + ATI HD 5650).

I really like my HP Pavilion DV6911 US. You can probably get them for a song now, but they will run HL2, Portal, and pretty much anything else or that era fine. They aren't powerhouses, but if you are going the cheap laptop route for college work and stuff, I'd definitely go for it.Bump, can anyone provide a model name and brand for me to look at? I'm fairly good with troubleshooting but computer shopping for something other than a mac...well... I need help.

Well, to hawk, I wouldn't suggest buying Dell or HP as they don't offer the best performance/price ratio..
An Asus N61JQ-X1 is pretty nice with DX11 support for newer games and an i7 processor. Acer's laptops are pretty cheap and have good performance but the build quality isn't the best. I personally would just look at some Acer's like Acer Aspire 5745G or 5741G.

Specs?Woohoo! I finally got a better PC. I had an ancient, ~10 year old clunker. Now, I have an Alienware Aurora R2. Man, this thing rocks. It sounds like the muscle car of PC's when it starts up! At last, I can get Portal references. Are you still there? Does anyone else have Supreme Commander 2?
Oh, Steam Id is silverhead557 .
It may sound cool now, but you'll learn to hate it. My old tower use to sound like that. It use to be loud as hell, mainly because it was all super fast 80mm fans, which are notoriously loud and don't work well. I got a new case, keeps it twice as cool, and is half as loud, and its honestly a much better thing.
Did you build it or get it prebuilt? Honestly, with the prices on Alienware computers, it always makes more sense to build your own. They are just too expensive otherwise.

See, what I dislike about Alienware is they cut some pretty obvious corners to save money, while beefing up parts that really don't need beefing up. The HD5670's really aren't that great of cards, and for the price of two, you could have gotten a single card that would have worked alot better. Any of the GTX series from nVidia work better. Even al older 260 or 285. But because it has two video cards is probably that much more expensive. How much did you pay by the way?Ha, no it sounds like that beacuse of the start up of the LIQUID COOLING SYSTEM. Who needs 80mm fans? It's unnoticable after 30 seconds. I just ordered a basic one, nothing custom- Intel® Core™ i7 920 2.66GHz (8MB Cache) Quad Core Processor, Win7 Pro, Dual 1GB GDDR5 ATI Radeon™ HD 5670 CrossfireX™ Enabled, 3GB Triple Channel 1333MHz DDR3 RAM, 500GB - SATA-II, 3Gb/s, 7,200RPM, 16MB Cache HDD Harddrive, 20-in-1 media reader, Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio.
And liquid cooling systems are stupid. There is really no point to have one if you are running a stock system. Now, there are applications where they make sense (Server rooms. It's been a LONG time since I saw an air cooled server room), but in general computing, they are just another part that can screw up. I've had quite a few friends fry parts because of faulty liquid cooling. Also, my regular old air case which has 5 120mm fans is currently keeping my entire system at 35 degrees Celsius, and the CPU at 37. Under full load it still doesn't hit 50. And thats under an overclock too. And its whisper quite.
Plus its way to damn loud.
