Anyone who has had/knows a fellow member who has it should post it in here. Not only will this give an archival of the outbreak, we can also know who to PM "Get well soon", have hopes for, etc. in overcoming this Russian strain.

Posts #2 and #6 are bullshit. Post #4 is golden.

Doing this as I speak. I have no idea when I got it...my DAD got it some 15 years ago, but that doesn't matter. Anyways, it keeps jerking around all over the place. I try to hold it with a rag...It doesn't look like...much.

in my opinion the outbreas are for the mot part overhyped. swine flu is a pain in the ass however. Ive gotton it twice, and i had hallucinagenic dreams both times. the second time i woke up talking in jibberish, the first time i thought a man was on the ceiling with his nose on backwards.

Are you sure that wasn't just the LSD you took before bed?

I have it... Never really heard of anyone hallucinating with it. I'm hallucinating just as much as I normally do.

Yes, thats nice to hear, but have you even looked at the number of people who have died from it? Now, if the swine flu is more deadly, which it is, thats REALY bad. Look here.
On average, a couple thousand die of the regular flu each year. And if you go back to the influenza outbreak in the early 1900s, you will see that 600 million people died, worldwide.HERE!

Its statements like that, that bother me.

Also, Mepain, Thats horrible, but your chances of having that condition are 1 in 1000000. So just get your shot.

You can not get any type of flu twice, once you get over a type of flu, your body knows how to keep it away next time, You probably just got a bad cold (which you never become immune to).

Most people who die of the swine (in our country it's called the mexican) flu, have already got some kind of weakening illness, so their immune system was already fucked up before they got it.

It got scary over here when perfectly healthy people began to die, and it took a turn for the worse when a healthy baby got the flu shot and died.......

Fatalities from seasonal flu are 250 to 500 thousand (which is a fatality rate of about .1%). About 40,000 are in the US. Swine flu is showing similar fatality rates.

According to the article you linked, the death toll in 1918 was 60,000,000, with most accounts showing between 50 and 100 million. (600 million was half the world's population in 1918.)

[/sarcasm]

But seriously, the best thing to do right now, is actually to get it. That way you're immune.

Don't ever take medical advice from a nerf forum. People with questions about the flu should be asking a doctor, not looking for answers here.

Not necessarily, since you are not immune to future mutations an variations.

But yeah, I was sick for 3 weeks. I bitched about it on the IRC room a lot.

Not necessarily true. Heard of small pox? My Biology techer said that if you got chicken pox or the chicken pox vaccine that you were immune to small pox. My point being that if the mutation is not too different the original can protect you from the new strain.

Not sure if this was proven wrong or not, but I heard that a variation of the flu that went around 40 or so years ago can help protect you from the swine flu.

Guys, there are plenty of other things that can kill you. I was just interested in who got it. My family is centered around a hospital (business) and we usually have the most immunity as we are exposed to the worst.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?
