I love the Intervention, it is so damn powerful. I shot a guy through both sides of a train car.

I went to the midnight release and I gotta tell you, if you waited for more then 10 minutes in line your dumb. All you had to do was go to the register before midnight and they gave you a receipt. Then at midnight they just scan it and give you your game. So here's what we did. We got the receipt and then went to the bar and got all fucked up. Then we came back, got our game and went home and played it. 10 - 20 minutes in line.
Okay, here's my review of the game:
Single Player:
The good:
I played straight through the game as soon as I got home yesterday morning from drinking my ass off. My favorite part of the whole game is the breach and clear parts. When you blow up a door it goes into slow motion like at the end of COD 4 where you shoot the Russian guy. One of the best things in COD 4 was the slow motion cheat. If you never did that, go back and collect 20 pieces of intel and play through the game again. It's tons of fun. The weapons are really cool too. I'm so excited they fixed the sites on the M4. That'll bleed into the multiplayer portion of the game as well. I thought it was pretty cool seeing Soap and Price again. You do kind of get attached to those two from the first game. Funny though how the Americans are almost faceless with no personality. I don't really know what they're trying to say with that. The first part of the game where you're fighting in America as well was fucking intense. It reminded me of the neighborhood I grew up in. Very creepy and a lot of fun.
The bad:
The story line IS Red Dawn. They didn't even try to cover that up. They called the level "Wolverines". I'm all for tributes, but god damn, it was practically lifted. I was looking at the edges of the map the whole time to see if Swazy was providing some cover fire. I guess in the end that's not entirely a bad thing, but other then the 2 second chuckle I got from it, I felt like it was just a lame rip off in the end. The whole game had this feel as if it was just trying to top COD 4. It didn't feel like they had anything really left to say. It was like, "Well COD 4 was fucking great and obviously we have to make another one, but jesus, we made a dude crawl out of a helicopter and die, how the hell are we gonna top that?" So they make you shoot civilians in a airport. The story line as a whole felt forced, confusing, meaningless, anti-climactic and unispired. But who are we kidding? The single player of this game is meaningless. The only reason it was so popular in the first place was the multiplayer and that's really all that matters.
Multiplayer:
It is better. Everything is better, but since I feel the need to really point some things out here it goes:
Maps: COD 4 had terrible maps. I honestly will not miss one of them. The thing that made COD 4 great was the level up system and the ability to customize your class. But alot of things about it were really, really bad. There are some maps in this game that I could do without, but that kind of goes with the territory. While some of them I despise, others I absolutely love. Wasteland is exactly what I've always wanted in multiplayer map. For once they just gave you a huge, sprawling, open battle field and while it turns into one big loser fest, that's exactly what it should turn into. It very balanced for what it is. Rust is also an amazing free for all map. I haven't played it enough yet to really go into it much more. The urban area's suck in my opinion, but seeing as that's ALL COD 4 had to offer, it's nice to see them switching it up.
Weapons: THE M4 SIGHTS! The M4 is my gun. I'm not accurate enough to use the 3 shot M16 and I'm too much of a finesse player to go for the AK. The problem with the M4 was the iron sights. They were frankly useless. The tiny area they gave you to line up that shot meant that anything other then the red dot sight was useless. It's a tiny thing, but I really like it. The SCAR is an unbelievable gun though. 2 or 3 shots from that thing will put a guy down. The iron sights are amazing and all around the gun is almost unfair. The side arms are great as well. Being able to whip out a shot gun at the very last second and blast someone into oblivion really adds some to the game. Throwing knives are fun, but you really gotta have it lined up to kill someone. I've missed far more shots with it then I've made. I gotta tell you though, when you stalk a camper that's killed you a couple of times and hit him with that throwing knife, it's wildly satisfying.
Perks and stuff: So off the bat I had slight of hand or marathon (extreme conditioning), stopping power and steady aim. That's every perk I ever played with on COD 4. They couldn't have made me happier. Other then that, I'm sure I'll play around with the others, but they gave me everything I want that fits my play style.
KillStreaks, Deathstreaks: What can be said about this, they're absolutely amazing. There's so many different things you can do it almost makes COD 4's UAV, Airstrike and Heli seem archaic. The death streaks thus far seem pretty useless to me, but I've noticed other people using them to their advantage. I can never seem to put painkiller to proper use, however when other people have it, it's just as frustrating and juggernaut was. The only thing is, you know that person had to be getting killed over and over again to even use it, so you can't really call them a pussy for it. I'm looking forward to having martyrdom as a death streak. It'll be great not having that being abused anymore. I can't tell you how much I avoid the bodies of the people I kill out of habit from COD 4.
All in all, the multiplayer is great. Probably the best multiplayer shooting experience ever made. The best way I can really sum it up in my head is to realize that MW2 has made COD4 look like a bad game. Even though I think the single player was VASTLY inferior, it is kind of an add on to the multiplayer experience and doesn't really take anything away. The single player had enough cool shit in it to keep you playing and to at least make it on par with the last one, but I feel like the whole story was the result of one big company wide brainstorming session rather then an inspired adventure like the first one. And that's fine. People play for the cool shit and not the story line. It's not a movie and I had a pretty good time playing it. What I'm hoping is that if you collect the enemy intel, it'll have the slow motion mode again, because that's really what was super fun and made the game replayable the last time around. But we'll see.
Talio.

I like the maps better, they seem like they will be much harder to memorize. The maps in COD4 and WaW were really too simple. Favela is really a maze, good luck remembering where all the good spots are on that map.

The weapons are great and the perks and stuff work well, I mean im only in the teens but I still feel competative amongst the other players at higher levels. My only gripe is that the AA 12's rate of fire is too high for its real weapon I know it is just a little thing but it irritates me. Also the automatic weapons which used to be all over the place when fired before now have a much smaller recoil and can be keep on target amazingly easily which also leads to the ease of death in multiplayer which at first shocked me but now im used to it. Other than that I got nothing but praise.
Overall it is an amazing game and the multiplayer as others have said makes Cod 4 look like shit and unimaginative and linear in style.Edited by DTReaper, 11 November 2009 - 06:56 PM.

I do think the AA-12 shoots a bit too fast, the clip is just to small for that rate of fire. Now if it had a drum clip that would change it all.
When I was playing CoD4 I was playing hardcore, so I'm used to the whole "ease of dieing" thing.
Icey I assume you have a ps3, we crashed the server! On the second saw we played to much and the server died. It's back on.
Oh and Talio the AK-47 chambers 7.62 not .762.

Multiplayer: eh...
I hate to judge it too soon. The maps are great (wasteland is a remake of my favorite COD1 map), but it doesn't "feel" good to me. Also: fuck matchmaking.
