What types are out there? How do I get my hands on a few? I need the load-down.

Well, to my best knowledge, the only "foam dart grenade" currently avaliable on the market is from a brand called Lanard (not Nerf).

Here is a review I did on it a while back, the Lanard Scatter Blast: http://sgtoyz.blogsp...ast-review.html

Nerf grenades are one of the big faux pas of the NIC. Opening topics about them is probably the #3 cause of banning, after being an idiot and 'loser' scopes.

Anyways, there have been a number of ideas for Nerf grenades, none of which worked too well. You can jam a spring-loaded party popper full of darts, stuff them into a folded-up flexible Frisbee, or tape a paper cup on the end of a Titan missile. Capn Slug even came up with a design for a mine, but I don't think it ended well.

There's really no feasible way to make an even spread of darts, and there's no need for a Nerf grenade. You're better off just loading your darts into a blaster and firing them. If you really want the spread, make a shotgun or use a Salvo.

I might update this with links to the specific grenades.

Closes thing a friend of mine came up with was using a Nerf FootBall or a Nerf VORTEX foot ball (the ones with the tail and tail fins), and using the rule of it must impact with in 3 feet or 1 arm distance to count as a hit. I know it sounds rather low tech, but it seems do-able. Since were following the logic that nerf war is a military sim type of game.

that scatter blast looked pretty nifty, but not terribly practical, as too much can cause it to not go off properly

A while ago I heard something about someone filling the tip of a BBBB missile with talcom powder so it shot out in a cloud about three feet wide. Might work if you don't mind getting crap everywhere. Thats about as good as its gonna get though.
