So I want to do my first major custom mod. I want to mod a recon. I want to mod a recon to use compressed air.

I realize off the bat that there are some problems with this. Until I do a brass barrel, any extra power will probably just cause inaccuracy, and of course the cocking mechanism will have to remain in place in order to chamber darts. Now of course I COULD just use a backpack air compressor, but firstly I'm a cheapskate, and secondly I want this gun to be A: self contained and B: completely ridiculous (in an unusual way).

Note: drum mag and raider stock are going to be on the gun, perhaps with a laser sight if it is ever warranted.

So, the idea. The idea is actually mostly for a custom air tank, on a gun which doesn't come with one. What I want to do is to start with a standard clear Nalgene bottle, and inside of it rig together 5 bladders made from some appropriate form of hose material. Through the center of the Nalgene (and the bladders) will run a cpvc pipe which will serve to ensure that the bladders don't stretch too out of shape when they expland, and to house the line which will, through some form of joint housed at the closed end of the bottle, connect to all of the bladders. An input shraeder valve could be located just outside the mouth of the bottle on the main compressed air line, and only the trigger and pressure release valve would need to be inside the gun. Am I right to assume that by using expanding bladders designed to exert relatively consistent PSI I could get away with slightly less pressure regulation? Would it be easy to rig and over pressure valve into this? Will that setup house enough air to fire 20 or so darts at ranges that would be difficult to achieve with the stock plunger assembly? Am I insane? What kind of tubing should I use for the bladders and the lines? Where can I find a part as weird as a 6 way intersection for those pressurized lines?

Sorry for asking so many questions there, but even just pointers would be good. I've read around as much as I can, but I don't have a ton of time, so if somebody could even point me just to another similar and modestly documented project that would be immensely helpful.

Try researching the Ak47 and how it is made. It might give you some ideas to make this mod the best it can be.

the only problem is, the scope is filled with roach bodies and roach crap.

Seriously...buy a paintball gun.................

If you want to mod a recon like that, it would more look like a watergun,(well that is kinda rediculous as you wish)

But I believe there is no-one who tried to make such a complicated bladder design,

If I were you, (and maybe I will try this mod if I get my hands on 1), I would try a larger plunger tube/ plunger assembly, (maybe a (enlarged, or home-made version of)LS plungertube, with some extra springs), but then again, you would be better off buying an LS............................

Or you could try to find tube material that fits the plunger head and o ring from the recon, and tubing that could replace the barrel end of the plunger assembly, and enlarge the whole rig, length wise, I might try this.......

Try researching the Ak47 and how it is made. It might give you some ideas to make this mod the best it can be.

What the fuck has a AK47 to do with a bladder designed gun??

I didn't write that my idiot friend was over and he wrote it. He has no clue about nerf.

Actually, if you look at the AK-47, you can take a couple of ideas from it.

Quite honestly, it's doable. It's doable like using your finger as a cork on a loaded gun. Theoretically plausible, but entirely unpractical, and unrealistic. But, hell, I'd love to be proven wrong. You actually seem to have much more idea of what you are doing than most "les turn a recn/ls into a machne gun lol" people. It's not going to be easy, turning a standard blaster into a compressed air one isn't easy. I seem to recall some people doing it with mavericks.

Look on mcmaster, they tend to have a ton of supplies like this.

Damn it Foamfoot. Why is it that you kill every good topic with a retarded response a few days late.

Am I right to assume that by using expanding bladders designed to exert relatively consistent PSI I could get away with slightly less pressure regulation?

Probably. I would say, "Yes," but there are a lot of variables to identify, but that statement is probably true.

Would it be easy to rig and over pressure valve into this?

Yes, you can buy relief valves that easily fit into a line of tubing. They aren't too cheap, but you can make them from other NERF parts for not too much, but that isn't as easy. Also, you may actually want a pressure regulating valve and those are even less cheap.

Will that setup house enough air to fire 20 or so darts at ranges that would be difficult to achieve with the stock plunger assembly?

There's the clincher. No. If you do the math on it, you'll quickly realize that this setup doesn't have nearly enough volume of air for that kind of air output. If your tubing is stretching to achieve "relatively consistent PSI" then it can't handle high enough pressure to hold enough air for more than a couple of shots. Several small runs of tubing holds significantly less air than one larger tube or bladder like in a MagStrike. So, your "relatively consistent PSI" system needs a different design. I'd recommend not trying to reinvent the wheel on this one and just go with a bladder.

This renders your remaining question moot.

So, I have a question for you...why not just modify a MagStrike or Power Clip or other NERF automatic? You will get better ranges, it will be cheaper, and it will be easier. I don't see why you would even try to change the the method of firing on a recon. If it's for range, just start with a different format.
