The way the NEW Blastfires are made, hotgluing the release valve screws up the check valve in the pump. So DON'T plug it if you have the new (full box) version.

- Cxwq's Blastfire modification writeup.

Does anyone know how to determine what version a Blastfire is? I want to make sure I won't break it before I plug the pump.

You can actually plug the pump on both versions. I was wondering the same thing while attempting a blastfire mod a while ago. Through extensive searching I found how you can...

When plugging the pump, do not make a mound of hot glue. Use the tip of the hot glue gun to burn a hole into the overcharge valve and fill it with hot glue. When done, the pump should look exactly the same as it did before plugging.

Newer Blastfires have a spring in their slide/trigger reset.
Older ones are manually pushed back.

Much easier way to tell is to see if there's a "stamp" in the plastic saying Dx500. If it doesn't, it's old style, if it does, it's new. But it's best to do what snake said anyways, because if you do there's no risk.
