Ok i bought a Ballzooka at Apoc since I thought it would be funny to screw around with. Anyway, I figured out that green nerf balistic balls dont work, and that foam golf balls dont either. So I decided that something had to be done to it, thats when i got this idea to make it shoot darts. Anyway this is my writeup.

Materials:

Saw
20" Barrel material (Cpvc)
Drill(optional)
Knife
Super Glue
Hot Glue
Expanding Foam(optional)*

*I understand that there is no expanding foam used in this but I will be filling in the gaps between the barrels, and the Cpvc with it.

For people who have never seen the internals before (or a ballzooka for that matter):

Ok so to start off, remove the turret and remove the insides being the yellow piece and spring. After cut the barrels to 1" from the ridge on the bottom,it just makes life easier. After take you barrel of choice and cut it to four inches. Also knock out the "air restictor" which is really just that plus sign on the bottom. then take your barrel and put a ring of superglue on the end and put it into the turret hole and make it flush to where the "air restirctor" used to be.

Repeat this process 4 more times. Then I took hot glue and just kind of dumped it into there and glued each barrel to the original barrel ( this will later be unnoticable when you fill it in with expanding foam, so make it as messy as you want). After that add some padding to the inside of the plunger tube, I used a foam shooter disk and just cut it untill if fit.

Then put the assembly back into the case and drop a sharpie down the barrel to the left and right of the barrel alligned with the plunger tube, Were going to make this baby backload. From here you should have to dots located on each side. Take your drill and drill right through the shell then take your knife and bore it out so your stefans can fit through. When your done with that it should look like this.

After that your pretty much done, put it back together and go shoot some fools. I would give you a range test but being its dark out...Although it shoots down my 40ft hallway and hits the wall with a nice thud, but it is honestly based on how hard you push in. Here it is all done, and i will post a picture of it after i use the expanding foam to fill in the gaps.

Nice mod.

Can't wait to see some range tests.

Kinda reminds me of an arrowstorm.

Why on fucking earth would you do this to such a machine? You've obviously never shot someone with the balls using this.

Nice.

Guess now it's a good idea and try and dart-mod every push pull ball gun now, since I'm expecting ranges slighty less than a dart-launching reactor.

Arrowstorm-esque is an added bonus.

Nice job. But now do you have to call it a dartzooka?

You don't put a slash in the middle of Ninja, unless you want a Ninja to put the former guitarist of Guns and Roses through your chest, while he is playing Sweet Child of Mine.

I recently got my hands on a Ballzooka, but didn't know whether it was worth it to mod it to shoot darts, or to just find some of the balls that go with it. Can anybody give some advice as to what I should do?

Its more of a novelty blaster than anything else. The ballzooka is the best ballgun around, and is a lot of fun to use. This dart-shooting conversion is interesting, but being that it's a push-pull, its probably not useful in a war. If I were in your place, I would leave it stock.

You can also convert it to shoot darts without cutting up the ball barrels and shell or gluing the dart barrels in. That way if you ever do want to shoot balls out if it you can easily restore it. I posted quite a while back on Nerfhq with eventual plans to shotgun a ballzooka, and I tested singling it by just wrapping a marker barrel in duct tape to wedge in the hole. It was getting something like 30-40 feet. The shotgunning was set aside as I was having trouble with expanding foam and moved on to other projects. Since I think there are plans for more indoor wars in MN this winter I might get back to it, if I can find all the little rotation pieces.

Not true. It takes a little practice but manual guns can be awesome weapons. Recently I was at a war where there was a stock B'nA and a modded Airzone Arrowstorm and both of them kicked ass, including mine.

I would be curious to see it in action. That's what I love about this hobby: you can use crazy weird shit and still be somewhat competitive (I use a BnA as a primary on occasions just because its fun).

There's an ebay seller, 'fancyrocker' who keeps coming up with more of the classic yellow balls, new-in-bag.

"Oh say can you SIG?"

Does anybody know how far the balls shoot compared to darts?

Both the Bow and Arrow and the Arrowstorm have springs in them, while the Ballzooka is a true push-pull blaster. You could add bands and bungees to it fairly easily, but it still won't have the same power as a gun with the spring inside.
