Uggh. Since my longshot decided to crap out on me in a way that I can't figure out how to fix, I had to spend a ton of time getting my BBB worthy of being used. Anyway, I need to sleep in, so I'm probably going to be about an hour late.

CRAPCRAPCRAP! So Ryan gave PMed me a wrong cell number to call so I could get a ride from him. I am basically going to sit here hoping that someone checks this site before the war today who is willing to give me a lift.

Huzzah! Emergency over.

I'm pretty sure it's ten, I'm still planning on stopping by Goodwill and maybe Toys'r'Us before I get there.

This war was fucking EPOCH!!! Ha, get it? great joke.

Anyway, good things, annoying things, blah blah blah, you all know the drill.

Koree can host a damn good indoor war, and I like Nerfing with college girls. On a more serious note, I had a great time.

I realized why I enjoy indoor wars more then outdoor wars. There is just too much fucking competition. I need to fix all my guns, and honestly, I don't really want to. Come on MN, convince me that outdoor Nerf is still as light hearted as when I joined. Its kinda turned into east coast dick waving.

It sucks that I couldn't go to the indoor war, but I had stuff to do. One of these days I'll make it to one.

The outdoor war was pretty fun, my guns performed well, even though most of them need some repair. (that's actually the reason that you were spared the wrath of my SNAP/titan, the stock had a fracture in the section where the plunger rod hits it)
I thought my 1v5 last stand (or was it 4?) was pretty good, as was team powerball.
DTC was alright, but we need to figure out a way to prevent the times when rushers fire at the core after getting hit. I did it once because I didn't feel anything hit me, and the atmosphere of chaos as multiple people rush tends to confuse everyone as far as hits are concerned. Also, the momentum of sprinting at a wall and then wildly attacking is really only stopped by the wall. I suggest that the core be not directly reachable, as in high up/ behind a perimeter of some sort. The time we played it at highland went really well, I attribute that to the core being out in the open. Anyone else have any suggestions on how to fix this?

I'll keep it short:
- Team powerball was hella fun with the new rules. Those were my favorite rounds of the day.
- Defend the Core: SO MUCH PAIN. Getting shot with +bows from 50ft away was no fun.
- I'm very sad that I missed the indoor war - I heard that it turned out very well.
- Always great to see the Chicago crew coming up. Ryan, Caffine, you guys rock.

<East coast dickwaving>
My equipment made me happy. My new +bow diddled face. Same for my new L+L. My new Lanard Hand Cannon proved it's war-worthiness (great blaster, I really recommend it). The automatic blowgun exceeds my wildest expectations. My Nitefinder and Pistol Splat continued to be faithful companions. And my damn AT3k actually worked really well!
</East coast dickwaving>

I think Busta's concerns about the outdoor game are valid. Some blasters (mine included) are getting overly powerful, to the detriment of the game. Methinks I'm going to institute major rule changes at the next war I host. Check out MWNC for details. If you’re not on MWNC, PM me so I can send you an invite.

I am nursing my sore vag after the pounding Ryan’s +bow and Tron’s LS gave it.

Other then that I was glad to see a solid turnout and meet some new peeps (Evac, Merc, Koree…Hi).

I’m nominating the Sonic Bazooka as the most durable weapon ever cuz it outlasted my Titan, DS, and 4B.

Oh and count ‘em: 4 pool noodle sword kills!

I believe we have just gotten too competitive. And thats not just because I was on the loosing side for every round. Its just not fun anymore. New guns, and all people want to do is power them up, and shoot at 120 feet. There is no varied play style, its just "Cock gun, potshot, repeat" and I think that its not the way we should be running things.

And you know what, I doubt anything will change. So you know what? Fuck it. I have been wary of outdoor wars since suburban war, and nothing has changed. I'm done being the loud, rude and annoying Julian. Instead of complaining or telling people off, I'm gonna just take a break.

Bye for a little bit NH. Well, until CHANO that is. Hopefully Chicago will restore my faith.

I can't believe my Lanard Shot Gun broke halfway through the first round, but my Hand Cannon preformed admirably the entire day. It also gave me an excuse to bust out my SM758, which was actually pretty fun to use. Its 8 shot turret definitely makes up for the loss in range. All in all a really fun day.

My 2¢ on the defend the core games: It seemed like the first couple of times we played, the defenders were treating it more like a normal round, and went out mostly to get kills. Then we all adapted and realized that getting the other team out didn't matter as much as just camping the core and keeping them away. I don't feel like that strategy will change significantly with the core out in the open, but either limiting the defenders to mid-power blasters or requiring high powered blasters to stay 20-30 feet away from the core would be reasonable. As far as limiting the attackers from stuffing their barrels right in the core, I don't really think it's a problem. Having the core high up enough that I can't stick my mav-titan into it would probably have to be 10' to be on the safe side (and some of the toilet-plunger guns have barrels that are 2-3 feet longer), and I really think that will limit scores to the single digits. A minimum attack distance might be fun to try though.

Ps: Megas are awesome, I don't care what anybody else thinks, haha.

That's why I suggested we NOT put it next to the bandstand. It's best to have the core in an open field, in my experience. When the defenders have no cover, it's less likely they'll stand right in front of the core and blast people close at range. I'm going to fix the height problem too.

But anyway, it was a fun war. No Vortex though. That was a big disappointment. Superbird was there though.

…except when that is ALL YOU HAVE IN YOUR POCKET…and try to shove them in ½ cpvc.

Val (veet): That 750 was brutal, fyi.

Bust, I’m hella surprise that your “after-war post” had nothing to do with keeping me at bay with an empty 2k for like 20 minutes OR your Zuse-like nut-shot on Ryan.
I was in at least 3 showdowns with long-range blasters against my mid to short range (30-60 ft) ones. I guess my masochistic zeal drove me to challenge/lose all three attempts but I felt like I gave it a good ‘ol run’! And in hind site if I actually got my ass to more wars I might feel the same way.

I’m up for any set of rules, because….fuck…sorry, I guess the kid in me takes it as my bad for getting tagged and I’ll do better next time. That, and my mods are mediocre-to-decent at best.

Yeah, I would have posted about that, and I probably should have. That was probably one of my few highlights from that war. The fact that you came after me with a sword was great. I wish everyone would have the decency to do that. I'm a little sick of getting point blanked.

Ok, after a long talk with my parents who have experienced this sort of thing, I am proposing a few added and ENFORCED rules. Rules are shit and serve no one if you don't enforce them. Zach, I'm gonna call you out on this. Saying not to use the huge Jo-bars or Cobras, then using one yourself, even if just for a DTC round isn't what we need to have happen. I will even start enforcing such rules.

1. Bring the right mindset. This is not Milsim, Paintball, Airsoft, and especially not live fire combat. It is NOT kill or be killed, its Nerf. Using anything other then a pistol or a barrel tap at 10 feet will result in some form of penalty. (This one seems rather important, because as of right now, there is no punishment or even enforcement for being a douche. The whole "Well its a reaction" excuse isn't valid because you have never been in that situation. I promise no one who Nerfs casually has ever had to kill another human being to save their life)

2. Bring only acceptable guns. This rule gets bent more then you will believe. If you know a gun is or will be banned, simply don't bring it, because like clock work, it gets picked up and fired at someone. Seriously, just leave it at home, or in your car.

Any others people want to add? I'm kinda half expecting a "Shut the fuck up, pussy" response. But hopefully I'm not the only one who sees this as an issue

As someone who has run around with a double NF and a side arm for the last three wars I have been at I must say that I am very glad that a few other people are realizing how ridiculously dumb it is to have basically everyone taking pot shots from behind trees on opposite sides of a field. There is no sport in that, only stupidity and pain. I also agree with the idea of some how penalizing people who shoot people with their how powered long range air guns from 10 to 20 feet away. I suggest we break off their appendages starting with the thumbs and progressing their little tic tac sized pride sticks.

Something else that really irked me to the core was when the little kids came up and were asking us questions about nerf guns and how to do easy mods and such: it was during the round of powerball I sat out and the little guys were being so polite and curious. I don't remember who it was but someone storms up into the pagoda dishing out f-bombs left and right at the kids for picking up one of their toys to look at, pushing them around and the like. It is one thing to come over and ask them not to touch your guns, it is quite another to be a grade A dick wad to them. A little civility and maturity would have been a little more acceptable. I agree with Julian, the "machismo" was way out of line and out of hand, you aren't making up for your lack of a manhood by cussing out little children.

ANYWAYS... Happy stuff:

~Thank you Ryan for the lift and the plusbow.
~Erik from Mound: so nice to meet another Erik who knows how to spell their name correctly. I had a blast nerfing with you.

For the record, I only have one blaster that shoots past 70', and I only used it for one round. Yet I still had a great time all day.

That's pretty disappointing. I was actually going to suggest that we bring a fair amount of stock darts and low powered blasters to future wars so that we could play a couple of rounds with any little kids that show up. After something like that though, I doubt they'll be stopping by next time.

We have so many rules for our hobby, but yet because we are mostly a light hearted bunch, when stuff gets out of hand, no one says anything. It just takes one, and that one broken rule can pretty much mess up your day.

Penalties:

Clearing the field? Say, someone does the dick move of taking a shot at about 5-10 feet. They get asked to sit the rest of the round out? Would that be fair? I know people will say "Well that leaves the team unbalanced" and no shit it does. Thats the point. You should be working as a team, and if you go off all loose cannon on someone, then your team should take a hit from that.

Taking a life hit? For each offense, the player looses a life?

What about for retaliating shots? This kinda happens alot without a whole lot of negative feelings toward it. If you get shot, you don't fire back your primary in rage. You clear the field, unload your gun safely, and if you can't do that, atleast do it in a safe direction right?

Limiting darts. If someone decides that their pride is such they need to take shots back after they have been taken out, then surely they will still be an amazing Nerfer with 5 darts at the begining of the round right? To avoid the inevitable "Well that would put them at a disadvantage", No SHIT!

Penalties for not bringing your "A" attitude. This is probably the most important part of Nerf, yet gets overlooked for more conventional rules. But really, we play on an honor system, so showing up with a bad attitude can throw the actual game off, not just upset people.

Being asked to sit the round out. If its clear to any other players, be it on your team or the other, that you are simply not being as noble and nice as you can, you can be asked to sit the round out. Like a time out. That isn't for general trash talk, the stuff thats all in good fun, but more for cussing and swearing when you get shot, or when you get a hit. I noticed I was even doing at the SOF war, and quite honestly thats what upset me the most. I am pretty sure no one liked it.

Being asked to leave? No one likes it, but if someone ever really gets that bad, we would have that option. It wouldn't be "Dude, get the fuck out of here. You are being a douche" but more "Ok, so look. It's pretty obvious you don't want to be here, or if you do, for the wrong reasons. Simply for the safety of others, we'd like you to take the rest of the day to yourself, just to chill out a bit". Asking people to leave for the wrong reasons can reinforce bad behavior, and get people to come back mad again. I doubt it would ever ever come to that, but if it did, its important to know how to deal with it.

Closing thoughts:

Lets face it, everywhere else, if you are hosting a war, you are running it. You decide rounds (for the most part) and you would be the person to take care of riff raff. We need to come up with a better system.

Oh, and I'm glad I wasn't the only person who felt that way Erik. I got the vibe that you were kinda upset about it aswell.

SM5k/xbow/+Bow with integrated SplitFire <-- makes me happy. I sorely regret not using it for a round. Despite the fact that you couldn't actually prime any of the blasters. I can always barrel tap!

^it counts as five simultaneous barrel taps.

Overall I preferred the outdoor war, somewhere between loosing 14 belt links for my Belt blaster and the not taking/calling hits thing I found it less fun, as much less fun running around with a raider can be..

OUTDOOR:
-xbow did well but I ended up using my LS more than anything else, it just has better ROF.
-We need to do a dart factory sometime soon, I never used my splitfire because fitting darts were hard to find.
-There was one funny incident during DTC when I was in front of the core and realized that the entire attacking team had formed a 1/3rd of a circle around me. I soon had to respawn.
-Chasing down Max and Generally running around all day.
-Powerball with fewer people should be done with pistols.
-Being on a roll for a few moments throughout the day.
-Forgetting to initiate rounds involving pistols and the VIP
-The 6-shot SSII, proved it's usefulness as a chasing down aid
-The weather was nice.
