Contrary to what Icespartan said, air guns are a bad choice. the cold very quickly compromises the integrity of tubing in most guns. I would not even consider using anything with a bladder.
Yep, that's what I was afraid of. I don't plan on being out there too long at a crack so I figure the springers would at least be okay for that time.
As for the darts, I've shot them out in the winter before and haven't seen any shrinking. I use modified stock darts, could that have anything to do with it?

- Certain air guns have problems in the cold. My AT2k and SS2 would not hold air in the winter.
- Hot glue fails in very cold weather.
- Dart/barrel fit is problematic (shrinkage).
A lot of people say that guns are less durable in the winter (plastic becoming brittle, etc.), but I'm not convinced of the truth of that. I didn't have any more or less problems in the winter than the summer. Also, Big Blasts seem to work just fine in the winter.
I generally prefer springers over airguns because I know they'll work okay when I play in the winter. 3Bs, NFs, +Bows and Maxshots should perform about the same in the winter as in the summer (provided your darts don't become too loose). Some foam doesn't vary too much with temperature; Mile High Black foam comes to mind. I don't think stock darts will shrink very much, as they use very dense foam.

What's the likelihood that they will return to normal size if they do? I'd rather not waste a few hundred darts for one night.

Pretty much 100%, The air that is trapped inside the foam when it is manufactured contracts due to colder temperatures, less molecular energy. When the foam is brought back up to room temperature the air will expand again and return it to normal size. Some foam doesn't vary too much with temperature
What's the likelihood that they will return to normal size if they do? I'd rather not waste a few hundred darts for one night.

Because you have never heard of Minnesota?
Ok, air guns lose some range, and darts shink. Use tight barrels, and try to stay away from air guns like the 2k. Big Blasts have so much power it doesn't matter.
Spring guns work the best, but you want to pad the plunger heads so they don't destroy themselves.
Remember, this info is all taken from ACTUAL war experience in the snow, and in Minnesota's real winter temperatures (meaning below 20 degrees F)

Okay, you kids have a way of not listening to guys with alot of experience and listening to the random members who have been nerfing for less then a year. So let me tell you I've nerfed alot during the winter and I can say without a doubt that airguns are slightly effected. You see a bit less range and more wild shots. Spring guns don't seem to be effected at all. And honestly, that's the end of discussion. Anyone who's nerfed in cold climates more then a handful of times will say the same thing. The rest is pure speculation and bullshit.
Thanks, that's all I needed to know.
