I've noticed that when I use e-tape, after a week or so it starts oozing sticky black residue that is just plain annoying. It's screwing up e-tape handles and a bunch of other stuff I make. But then, I live in Texas in 100 degree weather. Is the weather what's jacking up my tape, or does this happen all the time?

As far as I can tell, it's the weather. I live in California, and none of my e-tape has the same problem.

I live in Canada, and this has happend before in the winter to me. It may just be shit e-tape, or it may be what were using it on.

The oozing is directly correlated to the quality of tape. Don't expect anything from tape that is less than $3 a roll, as a general rule.
Also, if the roll is old (as in a few years or more) you will have more problems.

Yeah that fits the bill of my tape. It was some cheapo ten pack and I found it deep in my garage somewhere.

That's the e-tape? Thank god, I used it under the O-ring on one of my guns, and I thought it was the O-ring rubbing off from a bad choice of lubricant. Does anybody know if it will affect the performance of my gun to have the residue on the O-ring?

It depends what type of Gun, if its a spring gun I'm pretty sure it will, it is a form of adhesive and any sort of stickness on the o-rings in the plunger slows it down, which is bad for performance.

It doesn't seem to, but I'll look into that... I use Teflon tape now anyways, it seems to work better.

E-tape is usually mistakenly considered as a durable, and effective alternative for sealing and coating. It sucks. It expands and contracts from heat and cold very easily, it will get brittle over time, it leaves a shit ton of residue. I try to use it as little as possible, even on wires.

wing'd man: Yeah, it jacks up performance. Before I posted this I realized my BBB couldn't take a dart out the barrel and say e-tape residue everywhere on the plunger head. Got it replaced and it works fine now.
