I’m wondering what is the best barrel length for a Big Bad Bow?

The gun (your BBB) isn't the only variable in finding the best barrel length. You should consider the power of the gun, type of gun (air or spring), and dart fit. If I use a different foam than you, added a different spring than you, and have a different barrel material than you, me stating my barrel length wouldn't help much because that may not be the best for you.

Your best bet to find the best length is to add 12" of your barrel material, take a range test, snip off an inch, take a range test, and repeat. You obviously stop cutting when you see a decrease in range. If you're using a cheap barrel material like CPVC or PETG, you could just get a new piece to cut it back to the best length (if your last cut made the ranges drop).

On the other hand, the guy who posted before me used the word 'fuck' a lot so he probably knows what he's talking about.

6"

What barrel material are you using?
Dart fit in said barrel material?

Is it fear or courage that compels you?

If you're using stock darts then anything more than the length of the dart is overkill and dead space.

Dart fit in said barrel material?

See, I use an 8" barrel on my BBB because I have a nice size spring added. How can you suggest 6" without knowing the dart fit or spring?

It doesn't matter which you mean, you still shouldn't make the barrel longer than the length of the stock dart. A 2.5" inch barrel should be the best assuming you don't modify the darts at all.

Use CPVC the length of the stock dart for the dart body. Sand down the CPVC on the outside so it fits into PVC without hammering (you can hammer it in, but it makes the CPVC have a smaller ID and the PVC will have a larger OD which will suck for a coupler). Experiment with different lengths for the PVC section, although I'm guessing that about 5 to 6 inches would be good.

...unless you use streamlines or darts with parts cut off, in which case I'd say put on 6" and then do what Coop said.

This doesn't apply to the topic since he's using stock darts, but I use a foot of 17/32" brass and a deodorant clip for my BBB. Works way better than CPVC and stabilizes the dart much better than 6" do.

I use stock darts as well and the best way to do it is to place the dart, assuming it is not a streamline, next to the CPVC with the head of the dart touching the edge of the CPVC. Then, mark where the end of the dart body is on the CPVC and cut on that mark. This gives you a barrel the same length as your dart and eliminates all the dead space of a bigger barrel. Everyone else uses different sizes because they use stefans. Also, I advise you do not use streamlines because the BBB will vacuum load the streamline into the plunger tube.

It's easy to make a dart stop to prevent vacuum-loading: just drill a small hole at the very base of the barrel across its diameter, thread a piece of wire (such as a paper clip or the tie downs for some of the Nerf blasters), bend the excess along the barrel and wrap in e-tape to both keep the dart stop in place and to seal the hole.

Yes, that is true it would be an easy fix, but its also good practice just not to use streamlines because of their inaccuracy.
