Alrighty, I have a heavily modded supersoaker that has a huge amount of hot glue stuck to it from all the work I have done with it. Whats the best way to get it all off at once? When I say a lot I mean that theres a layer of hot glue over parts of it. It seems to be beyond my humble skill with needle nose pliers to get it off that way.

Get some nice neddle nose pliers and a flat screwdriver or chisel. The pliers should take most of it off though.

Well, you can melt it off, but that means you are going to have to clean everything up before it hardens again. A paint-peeling gun would work. Or, you can just do like CustomSnake said, and cut and chisel until there isn't much left.

Or just leave it on if it isn't hurting anything. I've seen guns in the LCM's arsenal thast were almost entirely made of hotglue. They use it as a structural support.

But hot gue isnt strong enough for support...Maybe in a place where only a little support is needed, but otherwise, that wont do you any good.

The way I do it is, get a wire cutter(not the kind used for cutting big wire) and then just grab onto the glue like you would with needle nose pliers and rip it off.
This works great for me.

Langley 10 pounds of hot glue is cheaper than 1 pound of epoxy, and hell if the works well in the end, who cares. Now getting it off can be hard, I have a knife that can be used for large amounts, or a flat head screw driver and a hammer for just large globs.

Freezing anything like glue or gum or such helps if come off in one big chunk. It might make it too hard, but generally hot glue peels off plastic easily. The freezing ensures that it will peel off completely.

Fill your bathtub with really hot water, and dip the super soaker in there for a while. The glue should melt off and go in the water. The only potential problem is the glue hardening up again in the pipes.

Dirty boy. You just wanna see people get wet while they clean off GLUE from their guns. Is that how you get your glue off of things?

Yes, it turns me on so much that I just want to vomit in delight. Dude, do you know how damn nasty that is? I just ate dinner y'know.

Another alternative would be to fill one of those kiddy pools with hot water and put the gun in there instead. Then you could just dump all the water on the lawn or something. And Cam, don't even start with that.

I've tried that. You end up with a kinda clean nerf gun and a hotglue covered dremel bit because the friction melts the glue. It's kind of a pain in the ass.

Well I do need to get rid of all this glue so that I can continue working on the gun so leaving it on isnt an option. I thought of using hot water from a kettle but I am not sure if it would be hot enough. does anyone know what the average melting temperature of hotglue is? basically I am looking for a way to either dissolve it or get it soft again so I can clean it up without destroying my gun.

What I find that works is just to heat up the hot glue gun again and put the tip of the glue gun onto the dry hot glue it should melt it again and come off.

The kettle should soften up the glue a little bit. It won't drip right off the gun, but you will be able to get it off easier.

The freezing idea sounds good. I indexed about 5 different hotglue brands, and the one I use now has a good bonding strength, and is relatively stiff, which means you can peel it off with the proper chisel.

I use the chisel idea thing, too.

It used to be a screwdriver. My dad took a grinder (used in a garage, not a kitchen) and made it (the screwdriver) all pointy.

It works like a charm for me. If you slip, though, it can jab you pretty good.

I must be living in the stone age. I use my fingers. No nails, just fingers. And if that doesn't get the job done, my teeth work just as well. I don't know about you guys... but it's no mystery how to remove hotglue, just pull it off. And yeah, what do you guys use, megasupersticky hotglue? Must be a bitch to get off, because you people make it sounds like a time consuming undertaking to remove it. Oh, and like LDM said, if you slip, you're done. I have stabbed myself with a utility knife, or an exacto knife so many times I can't count the scars anymore, theres so many.

After the third trip for hotglue, you start to care. I've gone through more sticks than I'd like to count... Considering most of it ends up in the garbage anyways, to make room for a whole new mod. My Crossbow is a loose slut.

Well, the hot water Idea worked very well. The hot water in my house will acctually burn you if its all the way on so I just used that and then the glue was very pliable and came off easily. Thanks for all the suggestions. Dont you just love a story with a happy ending? And yes I use megasupersticky hotglue or I wouldnt have this issue.
