My nerfstrong band broke today.

I can't think of a better moment for it to do so than after what the Season of Foam Team have to announce.

The Season of Foam team...

is not going to be seeing all of you this summer, for we cannot do the Trip.

There's a flurry of both financial and personal reasons for this, I won't break it down in detail, because like I said they're personal reasons. I'll share the short version: actually about 2 months ago we realized that Pilz was unable to come... that was a good thing, lowering the traveling team to 4 made it so we could take one car instead of two and naturally reduced costs. But that also put us in a position where if we lost another member of the team it wasn't happening at all. Well the economy's hit everyone hard and California's taken it the hardest, and quickly all of us, particularly me as a freelance artist, knew we'd be cutting things close on funds. Then Falcon successfully landed an internship up in NorCal (hence why he's hosting a CAFF up that way), and for various reasons that put his ability to make this trip unlikely. I then discovered that if I want to graduate on time at UCI, I need to take summer school and the class I need is only available first session, unfortunately that would put me taking my Finals the same time we're scheduled to be in New York. With Falcon and I more than likely out of the picture, it was pretty obvious what we had to do.

But, that does not mean That THE SEASON OF FOAM is over. Far from it. I would hate to see all these events that have been planned not happen just because 4-5 people couldn't come. What the community has going on here is gonna be something Effeminate regardless. There will be a Three Week period where there's a Nerf War Almost Every Day, some in areas that haven't had a large scale event ever. That my friends, is insanely awesome. And I think its still something worth Documenting. As such, I propose Season Of Foam transform from a documentary made by 5 SoCal Nerfers, into a Documentary made by Nerfers from Across all parts of the hobby.

That's right: I want to turn this into a community-wide project in a completely different way than it was before. R2L Media (which is Mine, Pilz and Falcon's production company) still wants to spearhead the production, but we're no longer going to be bringing ourselves and equipment to you. You're going to be sharing what you experienced with us. Sometime within the next week I'll be contacting all the people who were organizing their local events and/or intent on hosting The SOF-T 5 as well as many other people within the community. What I'll be doing is asking them to document their local events, and perhaps answer some questions on video. So all of you with video cameras out there... be ready to put them to use.

I'm sorry that I won't be getting to meet so many of you. I'd been looking forward to doing so for quite some time now, but I hope that there's a chance that will change in the future. It was a hard thing for me to let the trip and that version of Season of Foam go, it was my dream project. But I'm not going to let it get my spirits down.

Let's go out and Nerf People!

You'll be missed but good luck to all of you with your classes and such. Education is a VERY high priority and we all understand. I'll gladly pick up the camera for Season of Foam Augusta and I'm sure the final film will still be Effeminate!

Well, shit. After my 'Geddon plans fell through, my consolation was that I'd still get to meet you guys at SoF. Oh well. There's always next year (or the year after that) and this summer is shaping up into exactly what you were hoping for....an Effeminate Season of Foam.

Still hope to meet you guys sometime, and best of luck this summer.

Rather then leaving the filming up to a bunch of kids, why don't just postpone the project until your production company has the time and the money?

Essentially we do intend to do that, but that could be several years down the road. I figure why not still do something to record this Summer's event since the wars are still bound to happen. The video we'd be making now is destined for the internet, rather than my original plan which I'd been hoping to take to film festivals. Eventually the Season Of Foam we wanted to make will happen, but I'm sure it will most likely be following a Different group of nerfers, and I'll be along for the ride as a filmmaker first, but for now I have confidence in this community to help make a record of what transpired this summer.

Well I am glad I know now because I was going to book the time off needed for the war and the time to house you furry west coasters for a couple days.

AND.... Now I don't need to host a war on a Monday!

If you fuzzballs can make it to at least one non local war, Make it to APOC.

I don't get my kicks out of you,
I don't feel the way I used to do.
I know its bad,
After what we had,
But I’m just not the angel you knew.

Gotta side with Talio on this one. Who knows what kind of PV (Production Value) you'll get from a bunch of kids trying to wield camcorders as well as their blasters. I guess still have everybody film their wars but don't use the SOF name on a potential crapfest.

Even though the trip canceled, I think it did what it was meant to do. That being getting us all out and nerfing. I y'all receive some good footage.

We're looking to see what we can do about getting the rest of the team up to me in Nor Cal for that war, as well as a possible run up to Seattle. I may be going out to the texas event...but the cost of round trip flights out to Apoc this late of notice would be roughly the cost of the SOF trip as originally planned, so that's unlikely. Someday, though.

Potential is the key word there though. Why not give it a shot? Hand the camera to someone who knows how to use it or someone who has taped wars before. Someone coming to APOC out of those masses of people has to have some kinda awesome video camera or a dad who does, or something. I think we could, as a community, definitely make the documentary part work.

Sorry to hear that the trip's off, guys. I'm just at my beginning year in the hobby though, so I have a long time to go when hopefully the economy will shape up a bit and you guys can get over here.

I will do my best to still host a war the weekend before the date you guys were supposed to be in Toronto.
You guys will be there in spirit, if not in person.
Im really sorry you can't come, I was really looking forwards to meeting you guys.

EDIT: I will discuss locations and the like with whoever is at SCANO this weekend.

Maybe, if every SoF war had a video sent in to the SoF team, you can compile a bunch of them into one great video. That would sum up what the SoF's objective was...to get everyone out this summer!

You guys need to plan one of these every year, just to get some places to learn how to host a war. It doesn't take much, if you've got the right group of guys (13-early 20s), wars aren't that had to do, if people work together and act mature more places could have near monthly wars like we do in MN. Someone just needs to man up and find a park, a date, put up a thread a month before, and see who can make it. Excessive planing kills the fun. Giant wars like Massacre, Ddt-s, SPANO and Geddon are fun, but the close personal atmosphere of a small war like MNNO let's you truly meet the men behind the avatars. You don't need 20-50 people to have fun, you can have lots more fun with 10 if you take time to learn names and discover personality's.
Thanks for the effort and pity at the failure, but you did make progress in helping more places get together and nerf. I'll make sure me and venom get some video of whatever the ex-SOF MN war gets named.

SOFA is still going to happen, on another date perhaps, but it will still happen. Any SE nerfers please refer to the SOFA Planning Thread for updates. It seems ASoN has volunteered to be our camera man (I'll probably strap a camera to my SNAPbow to help out too.)

I'll run into some of you west coasters eventually haha. Good luck with your educations and other endeavors. VIVA LA SOF!!! Nerf on  .

^ This is why I <3 the NIC.

in response to those who've both questioned the idea of community involvement in filming as well as those who quickly jumped in to volunteer their cameras: We're not saying "hey make your own movie and give it to us" its going to be a strict submission format asking for particular things and all as Raw video footage. We're still gonna do the final work on the video. Although I'm beginning to think that instead of sending out some 30+ individual e-mails I'm simply going to post some sort of "instructions for submitting footage to SOF" which will explain what we want, how to get it to us and will include a link to a release form that will have to be signed.

Like I'd said previously we'll have that information out soon.

Well, that's too bad, Bags.

Looks like DAFT 09 won't be mass-publicized... Hm... Well, if someone has any skill or desire to operate a camera at the war, you'll be getting video. If not, well... Just remember I said "don't hold your breath."

I really wasn't following SoF that closely but a fellow Nerfer brought this announcement to my attention yesterday. I was obviously both shocked and dissapointed that this annoucnement, after two weeks, had yet to garner at least one Effeminate Fail posting. I mean shit, this has been getting hyped for well over six months right? And then it gets topped off with this weak sauce only 3 or 4 weeks out?

Well, time to set Right these here Wrongs. I tried to go for something travel themed;
