I know I will be taking a lot of flak for this, and that I am a total and complete Noob (at least I am using good grammar). I have taken the AR's out of my longshot, added a NF spring, and taken out a bunch of the locks. I have even plugged up the little hole. My barrel is a little too big, so a lot of air gets by, but it is not a whole lot bigger than the dart. Anyone have any ideas why I am getting the terrible range of 16-25'? I am in need because my uncle is taking me to a war in somthing like a month. Help!

Ok, I'll make this simple.
For a springer, you want a snug/tight-fitting barrel, because it will create pressure. In spring-powered guns, there is generally a lower volume of air getting pushed out relatively slowly, so that pressure is essential.
For an air gun, you want a loose barrel, because a large amount of air is being expelled at a very high speed. Since you don't need the added pressure building up, and you want low barrel friction, loose is best.
Get those two wrong and your gun will completely crap out on you. I recommend you also add a few springs, such as a spring from a Big Bad Bow, and put some kind of breech on your gun. Since you're new and seem relatively inexperienced, I suggest you "single" your gun using Ice's method, which you can find here.

Honestly man, Longshots suck. If you're going to a war you need to get yourself a big blast and just do a barrel replacement on it. You'll be able to compete all day with that.

Yea I have to agree with that. I did the some my to my friends LS because I didn't have anything else at his house. The dart just crapped out of the barrel. I opened it up, and realized it was the dart tooth.

I do not have a stock barrel, I have 1/2" PVC. And no dart tooth. Crap.

1/2" PVC will decrease ranges because with the stock breach you won't get an air seal past the breach meaning a well fitting barrel with the stock breach will simply increase the chance of the dart hitting the sides or rubbing, which increases friction and causes decreased range. I know it decreases ranges because I have done what you did it doesn't work at all, simply re breach it, minimize it, single it, put the stock barrel back in, or remove the barrel completely.

If you don't have the tooth, and you can't make an angel breech or similiar, you're mostly out of luck if you want to keep the clip. You could single it, or you could go to the trading forum and try to buy a tooth, then you could minimize in a way so it doesn't need the barrel. t

Update: I put the stock barrel back on, and I am getting 30' feet off the shot as opposed to 20'. So I'm not going to get the ranges I am looking for, unless I spent some money? I was not looking to do that but ok. Well that sucks. Thanks for all the advise. It has helped. And FYI, I am useing a stock breach.

Give up on the Longshot and just modify a Big Blast, or something else that's much simpler, easier, and more reliable.

Slugs right for sure, a BBBB will serve you much better. Besides the fact that a BBBB costs about one quarter the price of a stock LS, and costs about $4 in materials to mod--its a far more sturdy primary. A LS is great when it works, WHEN it works. I have several of both, and I can honestly say that while the LS gets serious "cool" points from me, the BBBB clearly surpasses it in both its low cost and rock steady performance.----Rogue.

No problem Lucky for you, I don't take offence easy. Whoah, and some huge misunderstandings here! The war I am going to is in a week, and I do have the dart tooth, I was just incredibly mistaken, and just plain stupid. Sorry.
