This is my first actual post, so please don't crucify me. I thought it might be useful to have one thread to talk about any perceived or real differences in the various versions of the same Nerf guns. Feel free to post links to other threads as well because some of this has been discussed, but below are some examples. Specifically, are there any internal differences between these guns? Are there other variants I'm missing? Feel free to add.

Many of these probably don't have major or real differences. If we start to confirm as such, I can modify this list as a reference. Either way, it could be a good list to quickly identify variants of the same gun, plus it could identify ones that have different internals -- springs, air restrictors, etc.

Also, I kept the list narrowed down to mostly newer guns and/or ones that might be popular to modify. There are lots of variations on older guns as well, as documented by Orange's Nerf Page. I could add those in the future, but there might be a lack of utility. Also, I'm not sure Orange has every variant of every gun.

Arrowstorm
i. "version 1" old version - has dark red plastic and open holes into case
ii. "version 2" has lighter red (pink) plastic and no holes in case

Maverick
i. blue version
ii. yellow version
iii. clear Gamestop version

Magstrike
i. dart tag versions - blue and red
ii. yellow version
iii. red iron man version

Nitefinder
i. blue and silver version
ii. blue and yellow version
iii. yellow version

Big Bad Bow
i. old purple version
ii. new purple version
iii. maroon/red version

Titan
i. red unity power system version
ii. red stand alone version
iii. green Hulk version

Longshot
i. blue version
ii. yellow version

Firefly
i. blue version
ii. yellow version

I know, for sure, that the blue nitefinders are better for the yellow ones. There is also blue and silver and blue and yellow nitefinder and just a yellow nite finder. In short, there are 3 nite finders not 2. The silver and blue is best and the yellow is worst. The newer they are, the crappier they get. Normally.

I'm pretty sure the newer variants of N-strike guns have weaker springs.

The new BBBs have weaker springs too.

(This is just what many people on this forum have said.)

I'm new to nerf but feel like I'm good at modding and at playing.

Currently modding every gun I can get my hands on.

Working on my own mod. I can't wait to finish and get the write-up...well written up. =)

I updated the thread to include the other variant. What are the actual differences in the guns? (springs, air restrictors, type of plastic, etc.)

And, how does much does this effect performance?

Anyone can feel free to add information. Real data would be amazing. I only have the blue and silver version of the Nitefinder.

My friend has a blue maverick (I'm pretty sure it's the older version), I'll see if he's done anything to it. I know for sure he did the full barrel removal. I doubt he did anything else. If he did, could I get a barrel from a yellow one without much difference?

I'll try and see the range differences when he comes over tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll actually measure it, so it will be accurate.

I don't have any other gun that I could test differences between variant.

That would be clutch. Our first "real" data point.

The new version also has some ridges running down the inside of the barrels, and so is harder to mod with PETG. I don't know of any internal differences.

Besides external differences, some blasters have had different colored internals over the years.

In short, there are 3 nite finders not 2.

I'm sure there's 4... There is the original, newer blue, teal, and there are 2 versions of the yellow... So really you could say there's 5... Or if you counted the diskshot or the switchshot...

In terms of functional differences, almost all nitefinders are the same. The gen-1 NF is the exception to this: it has a different shell, and some of the internals use thicker plastic. The gen-1 NF is a more durable gun, but it's performance is the same as any other nitefinder.

There are 7 different versions of the NF that I can think of off the top of my head:
Gen-1
Blue/Yellow N-strike
Yellow/Black N-strike
Yellow/Grey N-strike
Grey/Green N-strike
Red/Grey Dart Tag
Blue/Grey Dart Tag

Again, the Gen-1 is the only "different" one. The rest just have different paintjobs. The diskshot is obviously based on the NF, but has a few internal differences; at least, that's what the nerfer wiki says. I've never opened one up.

No one seems to have touched on the Magstrikes, so I say with 99% confidence that the new yellow magstrikes are more powerful than the old ones. In addition, new longshots (not necessarily yellow) have weaker FLAT BLACK springs. The better springs are unpainted silver/chrome whatever.

Mavs just suck altogether.

The gen-1 NF has what is essentially a tightening ring at the base of the barrel. That combine with a more powerful spring make for at least a 50% range advantage over other NFs.

They also have no rail.

Which is precisely why my green and grey NF has the internals from my gen-1 NF.

There aren't any clear distinctions between the early batches of Mavericks but I'm certain that the quality of the blue first gen Mavs declined over time. I have several and the later ones I bought feel gummy when you advance them.

That would be a Gen-1.

Maybe a bit different paint scheme, but it has an identical shape.

Who said they have to have a different shape to be different version? It is a different gen of Nitefinder NOT the gen one, clear parts, different paint scheme, and most likely a weaker spring.

The yellow longshot has a weaker spring and comes with six darts and one clip, the blue version comes with a better spring, twelve darts and two clips.
I have heard the blue mav has a few shell differences from the yellow one.

What about recons? There're clearly two versions, one with the orange "armed" plunger coming out and the newer ones with the black cover over that same piece with a little window on the very end to see the orange when armed.

Personally I don't care about the different gens being weaker because we are going to mod them so it doesn't matter. The first gen of a gun is usually only better when stock, but once modded all gens will produce the same results.

The yellow balls are also slightly smaller in diameter than the green ones.

There are 2 NF types you haven't got listed in your first post.

1) Green and Grey.

2) An apparent new version has came out. The "50'th Anniversary" version which I believe is black and red.

The Arrowstorm now has an Air-Zone version, too.

Guys, the airzone arrow storm thing is not a different gen arrow storm. They are two different guns and nerf has not sold rights to airzone for the gun to the best of my knowledge. All it is is a blatant rip-off.
