I've been looking for a Switchshot that wasn't $50 for a while now, and I finally found them separate from the game at Toys 'R' Us for $15.

Here's the gun, and a size comparison with a Maverick:
Posted Image

You push the little round button near the front, and the "gun" part of the gun comes out, like so:
Posted Image

It's just a small tube. There's an opening in the bottom where you can see the catch. This gun is perfect for integrations!
Posted Image

Let's open 'er up!
Posted Image
The first thing I noticed is that it's definitely not another re-shelled nite-finder. The plunger tube is smaller, and so is the spring, although the spring is fairly strong anyway. The seal in the plunger seems to be better that the NF, although that probably varies.
Posted Image

When I opened it up, I saw the barrel assembly, and thought "hey it's like an NF, I can just open it up and take out the air restrictor!" I was wrong. The damn thing's glued together.
So take your Pipe cutter, and cut here:
Posted Image

When you've cut it pretty deep, break it off. It shouldn't be too hard.
Posted Image

Then drill the AR out, being careful not to go too far:
Posted Image
and pull out the mangled AR and spring with some pliers:
Posted Image
You could probably open up that small hole a little, but I didn't.

Now glue your barrel back on (or put some brass/CPVC in that convenient new hole):
Posted Image
And tape up the hole in the barrel: (if you kept the stock barrel)
Posted Image

Put it back together and you're done. I didn't replace the spring or add to it, since the spring is stronger than any of the springs I had on hand that would fit.

With the stock barrel and stock spring, this gun hit 40's and 50's easily. xtremejumpy's heavily modded one hits 70's, and I was there to see it. These little guns have alot of power for something their size, and I'll be buying more soon to integrate into things.

Q's, C's, F's?

You can use a toilet paper holder spring and use both at the same time, it adds about 40 feet to ranges.

One question, is the handle on the switch-shot the same as the recon?

40' extra range?? I highly doubt that... Is that angled or flat?

Yes and no. It's exactly the same shape, but it's smaller. It's like they shrunk the Recon's handle and stuck it on this.

Nice mod. Clear and concise.

Thanks!

*In a highly sarcastic voice*
Wow those must be some heavy duty toilet paper roll springs. Do you need to wear eye protection while using them?

On topic: Nice.

Nice write up, but I'm a little confused on your ranges. If the plunger tube is shorter and the spring is weaker than a nitefinder how are you getting 40-50 with just an ar removal and plugging a hole?

The yellow balls are also slightly smaller in diameter than the green ones.

I can vouch for these ranges. Yeah, it may not make sense; but try it yourself. These things are little beasties. I think it's because of the wide plunger tube.

Good writeup. A bit self-explanatory, but hey! I remember when I wouldn't/couldn't do a thing for myself without reading that someone else had done it succesfully (got over that thankfully).

I haven't tested ranges, but for mine I added a Disk Shot spring, and then widened that hole until it was almost flush with the stock barrel. It's so worth it. That hole barely lets any air through (the one in the 4th picture that you didn't drill through). May I ask why you decided not to widen it?

With the stock spring, you do get the ranges he is claiming, I too can vouch for them.

Nice work, clean and too the point. (Although I would personally add a new spring. Maybe and Ace 49 spring cut to size, if the diameters are the same. Never looked at that before.)

I too can vouch for the ranges, my petg modified one gets about 60'. But these do not have a wide plunger tube.Posted Image
Their just as wide as a NF plunger tube but not as long. Posted Image
Dont forget that the plunger for the switch shot starts at the yellow line. Also not all the plunger is used in a stroke.

You mean Jesus doesn't get you an extra 20 feet?
I blame insufficient praising of his name. If you don't cross yourself and point to the sky after every minor achievment how is a higher power supposed to know that you are pleased with his mad sacred game?-VACC

Wow, even with teflon tape and lube, spring replacement, and CPVC barrel replacement I could only get around 50 feet flat like you, that's strange. Well, I'll maybe do a range test later and see if I'm wrong.

The spring isn't weaker, just smaller.

I haven't tested ranges, but for mine I added a Disk Shot spring, and then widened that hole until it was almost flush with the stock barrel. It's so worth it. That hole barely lets any air through (the one in the 4th picture that you didn't drill through). May I ask why you decided not to widen it?

Because with similar situations on a Scout, a Crossfire, and an Eliminator, widening the hole seemed to actually decrease range, so I didn't want to risk it here. Now that I think about it, that's probably because they're reverse plungers. Since you got good results, I'll probably try it.

With the stock spring, you do get the ranges he is claiming, I too can vouch for them.

Nice work, clean and too the point. (Although I would personally add a new spring. Maybe and Ace 49 spring cut to size, if the diameters are the same. Never looked at that before.)

If I had a spring that fit, I would've added it - I just didn't have any good springs handy. When I buy a couple more of these guns for integration purposes, I'll definitely upgrade their springs.

Wow, even with teflon tape and lube, spring replacement, and CPVC barrel replacement I could only get around 50 feet flat like you, that's strange. Well, I'll maybe do a range test later and see if I'm wrong.

That's strange... wish I knew how to help you there.

I've done this one as well, to integrate with my BBB, and I can tell you, the switch shot does better with CPVC. A maverick spring is also a pefect addition to get more oomph out of it. It's also possible to slightly increase the air displacement by moving the tube up a bit thus increasing the plunger travel.
