I just finished watching the movie and I thought it was pretty damn good.
What are your thoughts/rants?

Even though I liked it, I think it was a cheap play to get more money. The first hour of the movie was just him being a lumber jack.

I think they may do the other X-men's origins, but I hope not.

There are plans for "X-Men Origins: Magneto" and "X-Men: First Class". The former is set to revolve around Magneto as a Jew in WWII with Xavier as a soldier. It is meant to deal with Magneto going all evil with anger towards the Nazis. First Class is supposed to be based off of Cyclops's, Jean's and Beast's time at Xavier's academy as kids.

He was only a lumber jack for maybe 20-30 minutes in the movie.
I don't know, one on Magneto might be cool.

Too much sorrow and pain for my liking. Nice special effects thought.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going coating my skeleton with admantium. Now where's my cheque book.....

I liked the special effects, but It was disappointing somewhat as it did not live up to it's hype, or the first two for that matter. I did not really like the ending either, it was a bit to sudden for my taste. I would give it 6 1/2 out of 10.

The effects on his claws seemed... off, and they seemed really short too.
The two best characters, Gambit, and Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds, not zombie deadpool) got less screen time then Venom did in Spider-Man 3.
The Adamantium bullets thing was excruciatingly stupid.

On the other hand, Sabertooth was a HUGE step up from the neanderthal version we had in X-Men 1.

So, meh. It was ok.

I agree with most points, except the claws. I thought they were the right length, more to scale. My homemades are about the same length, as they measure from the same distance as my fore arm. That way they look like they might actually fit inside my arm. Some of the effects were poorly done thought.

I went to see the Watchmen with the horsemen and that was the night I realized I did not like comic books, I just liked the xmen. And Wolverine is my favorite character of all time in anything. So I'm a little picky about how they were going to pull this off.

I will say anyone who saw the boot leg needs to understand that this is almost an entirely different movie. I hated the bootleg, but once they recut everything, they made it into an excellent movie. If you don't think that editting can make a movie, try to find the original uncut scenes from Star Wars. They were terrible. Which may explain why the prequels were just so bad. But onto this movie.

Okay, here's my thoughts:

1. Opening was kinda cool. If anyone has read the orgins comic you know that they didn't put in some of the hardcore shit. James Howlett should not have gone into berserker rage to kill Logan. It kills the innocents of the character. Also Sabertooth is NOT fucking Wolverines brother. This was the third most bullshit thing about the whole movie.

2. I loved seeing the two of them fighting through wars together. You could have made the whole movie just that and I would have loved it.

3. It's always good seeing Hugh Jackman play wolverine and think this time he REALLY captured the essense. I could watch this dude play the role over and over again. The one thing that he captured is all the emotional shit that Logan goes through. Guy loses like at least 3 lovers. Jackman can really nail that emotional side and then go berserker rage.

4. Okay, Deadpool sucked. Get the fuck over it.

5. What was wolverine Weapon X and not the whole team?

6. Maverick was weak, the Blob was awesome, Will I Am? What the fuck was his character? Wasn't that supposed to be a bird?

7. I don't know if three mile island is really where that fight was supposed to take place, but seeing as that's not too far out of my home land, I was pretty proud to see them fight there. Hooray east coast pollution!

8. Why Striker? Fucking why? Why are we still doing this farce? It's not fucking Striker.

9. The cyclops thing was too much and the Gambit parts were weak. He had the cajun accent for like a second and only uses the cards once. That was squeezing too much into one movie. It also lead to...

10. One of the biggest plot holes in any movie series I've ever seen. Professor X picks up the kids...He was clearly communicating with Scott. That means that the Professor should have at least some idea of who Wolverine is. However according to the first movie, they don't know anything. This was really a disappointment for something that was merely a gimick.

11. No mastermind. I guess Striker didn't realize his "son" could have stop all the bullshit in the movie from happening. Kind of a huge fuck up on his part.

So yeah, all in all it has it's strengths and weaknesses, but given that this was not a reboot and had to build off the other movies currently in the franchise, they really couldn't have done a better job. It's not the Dark Knight, but I liked it alot.

Talio.

PS. See, off topic thread I'm not closing. Fuck you guys.

Fuck that.
Even if they re cut the movie they couldn't have had time to re shoot the whole thing. So I will stand by that this whole movie was a diddle scene of the origins of Wolverine. Deadpool shouldn't have even been in this time line nor should have Gambit. None of the kids that were kidnapped for these tests were even alive at the time of when this movie should have taken place.
Did they still shoot him in the head with adamantium bullets to erase his memory? Wasn't his head also made of adamanitum? WTF!? What happened to the reprogramming, The fighting bears in the snow, all the shit he did as a weapon X member.
His getting adamantium had nothing to do with a girl. He didn't do this by choice they forced all of it on him.

What happened to the rest of Weapon X? The team? Omega red, They dumbed down Sabertooth. The dude they had for the first movies was way closer to an accurate dipiction of him then this little man that was now suppose to be what, Wolverines brother? Fuck off.
The war scenes, the hell!? Where was the part where he killed nazis with Captain America? One of the few ties that He has to someone who knows who he actually is. And they erase it by ignoring it.

Deadpool..... wtf... diddle one of the most Effeminate of all Marvel universe characters. Stan Lee's fav character actually. Disregard that he has a long life and storyline that is suppose to take place after this time period that he was never suppose to be in in the first place. And lets give him powers that he never had.(Instant teleport, retractable sword hands,Friggen LASER EYES) Just so we can kill him off with a lucky swipe. Speaking of the Starwars movie this is a somewhat similar taste as to what happened to Darth Maul. He had nothing really to do with Weapon X. He was a weapon X reject. And didn't even get his name Deadpool till after he was tossed from weapon X to Doctor Killebrew.

Emma Frost. Crystiline skin? She was suppose to be a very powerful psychic. She probably could have broken everyone out herself. And she was not wolverines girlfriends sister.

Fuck Gambit. I'm glad the juggernaut killed his ass.

Well I saw it today, and I thought it was quite good. I Think I may have liked it better that the other X-men movies. I never read the comics, so I'm not going to discuss any differences. I liked the action sequences, the story was cool, and overall I say it's a good movie.

Man, and I just finished finally seeing Slumdog Millionaire, and I haven't even seen Watchmen. Why are they already releasing Wolverine? And Star Trek at the end of the week? Man, this sucks.

I completely agree, especially how they ditched their guns when they stormed the beaches.

Why are they already releasing ... Star Trek at the end of the week?

I don't know, but I'm camping out dressed as a Jedi for shits and giggles.

Overall, the movie was pretty ok, but I the special effects with his adamantium claws and the helicopter just pissed me off. The claws in the bathroom scene looked like they belonged in Who Framed Rodger Rabbit? and why did they explode with sparks when he just touched them together, its not like they're electrically charged. The helicopter scene was good until he actually took it down. When he was being launched from the helicopter he clearly starts to tuck into a roll before they cut to a different view, then he ends up sprawled out like he just slid across the ground. Granted, this shouldn't have pissed me off nearly as much as it did, but it did. Then when he was walking away from the helicopter, exploding behind him, I felt like I was playing 007 Golden Eye (love that game) because it was just so bad looking. There were other shots that I felt were ruined with poor special effects, but these stuck out to me.

I walked into it not really expecting them to make all the characters the way they are in the comics. In fact they probably could have and I wouldn't have known the difference. Looking at it just as a movie and not an X-Men movie, I thought there was a lot more they could have done with it. For example, the relationship between Wolverine and Sabertooth had a lot of potential that I think they kind of wasted, as well as that of Wolverine and Striker (or is it Stryker?). Also, all the green screen was a little over the top.

And I just really don't like Ryan Reynolds.

The main part i was REALLY happy about was, finally, Gambit (my favorite character) being shown in at least one of the movies. I also liked how everything came together at the end, Wolverine losing his memory, Prof. X meeting up with the kids, etc. Great movie overall.

So i was thinking about this movie today, and i started to realize that opening sequence with Ryan Reynolds and the rest of weapon x (although awesome) was pointless. They killed EVERYONE, got to the guy in charge, and asked where he got his souvenir rock. Couldn't they have just called?

There is a scene where Wolverine locates Stryker and the other white coats.
Sabertooth is hiding in the back and Wolverine finds out about his wife and how she faked her death yada yada.
As he is walking into that scene he sees something...
a black version of the original Weapon X headpiece.
Wolverine looked to the right and there it was. Hanging over a rail or something.

Did anyone else see that?
It looked like the photo below but it was black.

For the record I generally think less of any movie that has "Musicians" in it.
Overall I thought it was a wicked movie that had a good amount of cheese in it.

Part of me died on the inside after seeing this movie.

Fucking Sabretooth is not Wolverine's Brother, and Deadpool is not "Baraka" from Mortal Kombat with eye lasers. No. Fuck that. Striker's character is probably one of the worst I've seen in any comic book adaptation. To top it all off, Remy LeBeau (Gambit) didn't have a fucking Cajun accent! What the fuck was that about?! Look, Marvel. It's fucking simple. Find a guy in backwater Louisiana with scraggly brown hair. Give him a deck of cards. It's not that hard.

Marvel has shat in or around my fandom. Quit fucking with my fandoms, Marvel.

Hold the phone. Don't blame marvel. Marvel didn't make this movie. Sony did. Xmen was the first comic book movie to be made in this big string of them and Marvel wasn't involved like they are now. Hence the reason they take SO much liberty. This is a Hollywood movie, not a Marvel movie.

The claws in the bathroom scene looked like they belonged in Who Framed Rodger Rabbit?

That is so weird that you say that, I thought the exact same thing.

I this was easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen.
-Waaaaaay too many plot holes.
-They tried to pack too many mutants in the movie, thus leading to the shitty appearance by Gambit and others.
-No continuity with the first 3 movies.
-Special effects were shitty as hell. There were several scenes where I thought they looked horrible.
-There are holes between Wolverine's claws. That laser should have gone through them and fucked him up.

Not only was this a bad comic book movie, but it was a bad popcorn/action/entertainment movie. Hopefully Magneto will be better.

I liked it. I've never read the comics and I only saw the first live-action X-Men movie. There were some really annoying plot holes, I will give it that, and they really could have done Gambit better. Deadpool was the most pointless boss ever too, I mean seriously, a few good hits and some cheap shots on Wolverine and Sabertooth, then *slice, kick* he's dead.

At least we know how the Three Mile Island nuclear accident really happened. :o

I thought it was ok. Every time the cheezy, bad acting made my eyes start bleeding, a nice action sequence calmed me out. Also, even though I have never read any of the comics, I thought Gambit was pretty crappy as well.

Being a very avid X-Men comic reader I was disappointed in the movie considering I had been waiting for it for 3 YEARS! In those 3 years they definitely could of made it better.

I'm really suprised that everyone is surprised. Did any of you see Last Stand? They fucked up Dark Pheonix! How did any of you have hopes that this was going to be really good. I think considering how shitty the movies this built off of were, I think it turned out pretty okay. Then again I never liked Dead Pool and had to look him up on the internet to even remember him, so who knows. But you can't expect these movies to be made panel by panel how they are in the comics.
