I have a small problem with my long shot. I did the basic AR removal mod and cut away the three plastic prongs holding a the center piece and then took it out along with the AR piece. Was all good and such. I put the gun back together and has been working fine up until a short while ago when it got stuck while I was in the middle of a firefight. I couldn't loosed the clip or pull the bolt back. So I opened it up and found that ring that had been holding the Air Restrictor had turned sideways inside the plunger tube which stopped the plunger from fully extending.

Now normally I would glue it back in with some plastic cement or epoxy, but I have noticed on the all of the walk-throughs that I have read, no one has removed that ring. Is this because it provides structural integrity to the plunger tube since that is where the plunger slams into it, or is it because normally it simply isn't worth the bother of removing it?

From what I have seen it, I would not have to remove it from the assembly anyways if I were to further modify it but I was simply curious to its purpose. I realize that this is not a huge change to my gun either way.

I don't think it matters.

But, then, I can't get that little fucker outta the gun to start with. I just twisted hard and the restrictor prongs broke, letting me remove the assembly.

So, I don't really know.

I always thought that was supposed to keep the bolt centered. I think you should glue it back, but be sure to keep glue from dripping into places you don't want it to go (if you catch my drift).

EDIT: Nevermind I was thinking of the wrong piece.

I have had the same problem with my longshot. It happened two times I got really mad from opening the gun up twice and I took it out and it works fine.

Strange. I always thought that was one piece. Then again, I dremeled a hole through it. I think that it could provide structural integrity, but I am not completely sure. If you can get it back in, fine. If you can't, fuck it.

I would definitely consider gluing it back in, or gluing a pipe over the hole and filling the dead space with hot glue. I'm not sure that small ring is going to be able to take the slamming of the plunger for over several months. It will probably last longer, but better safe than sorry.

I thought it back over and it could probably take the beating, the ring is thicker in your picture than I remember it being. It still might actually hurt the plunger head, though, because it will be concentrating the energy. If nothing else, using my pipe idea will significantly decrease dead space.

Like everyone else said I don't think its neccesary to glue it back in.
Take of your thinking caps, and put on your ALGEBRAINS!
