If you got better ranges than a NF you must have a really powerful spring. Unless you didn't replace the spring on your NF.

And 11 inches? Doesn't that seem like a lot?

New spring..... and i did replace my NF spring. With a ace hardware #49

11 inches is probably an over estimation,. might be a bit more like 8

What spring?

And the usual NF barrel is 4". I don't believe the plunger tube is that much bigger. I imagine you coul get better range with a shortr barrel. Unless you don't put the dart all the way in.

Paint job looks good, but the barrel looks a bit excessive. I am interested in exactly which spring you used also.-----Rogue

Did you use epoxy putty where the ammo holders used to be?

Nope. No need. there is not a hole there.
Just just it flush with the plastic. worked nicely

the spring was from my parts bin, so its origin is unknown.

The barrel length was tested and optimized and i never really
measured it. just trial and error. :-)

Paint job was all done by hand,
Base coat: Kylon fusion flat black
Details, Testors hobby paints in various colors.

Thanks for the replys guys. Hope fully i can do some range tests soon.

I like the paint job... but seriously, there is no way that that gun can handle an 11" barrel, I suggest 4 or 5". Nice mod.

Guys, optimal barrel length depends mainly on two things: air output and dart fit. If, through trial and error, this is the optimal barrel length for him, then he probably has looser fitting darts or should make sure he controlled his variables.

Comparing the barrel to the plunger rod, it looks more like 4.5", definetly not 8" or 11". By the way, things like these should not be posted in their own thread, Mods and Pics would have been fine.

IMO, it looks more like 5 or so, but what you must also take into account is the maybe 1 - 2.5" inside the actual gun (from the outer shell to the plunger tube) that you can't see. So, in reality, the barrel length ends up being 6-7", perhaps even 8.
Also, I can personally say that my personal Nitefinder can get up to around 70 feet with a ~5.5" 9/16 barrel with about an inch and a half of nested 17/32, because my darts fit perfectly in that type of barrel. So, depending on dart fit, it may not be too far a stretch to say an 8" barrel on a Disk Shot could get better ranges than a brassed NF, assuming the NF was not very well modded.

I've modded plenty of disk shots, it's my favorite nerf small arm, and trust me and the few other people that said this, you need to shorten your barrel.

The chances of one person taking a bomb on a plane are one in a million. The chances of two people taking a bomb on a plane are one in a trillion. So if you're scared of a terrorist attack, bring a bomb on a plane.

you guys forget in the diskshot the barrel extends much further inside the shell of the gun then does on the NF. So there's probably about 3" of barrel internally along with that 5".
Now I didn't see any #'s on the ranges just a comparison to a NF of that we also do not know the ranges.
But I would assume that the barrels are indeed too long. I would max give it about 4". The NF doesn't really move enough air to make use of a 8" barrel so you are likely to have negative effects on your overall ranges. 3.5 -4" should do nicely.
