I was looking at the +Bow writeup a while ago, and was intrigued about its three pull settings. I was wondering if it was possible to create a new catch on a springer, farther back on the plunger. I was thinking that the extension of the pull would give an increase in range, and would be incredibly simple. By cutting out a new catch, and filling in the old one, you could extend the pull about 1.5 or Cm. It seems miniscule, but worth trying. the catch area in the plunger of a NF is actually hollow too.

One concern however, was that it would increase strain on the plunge, requiring additional reinforcement.

Admins, sorry if this is too much of a concept thread, I just thought it was so simple, that it was worth posting, and I haven't seen it before. I hope to have a real picture up after spring break, I'm heading to Louisiana by plane, and I don't want to be slammed against the wall and searched by the TSA.

Another problem will be that in some cases, the spring will get to a point where it is so compressed that all of it's coils will be bunched together and it will be pretty much impossible to pull the plunger rod farther back.

Ok thanks for the input. That also means this would be practically impossible to do with more than a stock spring.

It depends on the size/amount of coils on both the stock spring and the replacement spring.

Its a good idea though and if you do happen to find a gun that has room on the pluger rod, go for it.
Also if you have a gun that you can't find a replacement or addition spring.

Yes, that's my mod in the mod directory and it's doable. I've looked at the NF and thought about doing it, but I guess I never got around to it, I don't remember why.

But the reason that I only went 1/2 inch more with mine was exactly what cheesypizza said, the plunger physically wouldn't go back any further. I also know that Mr. Badwrench got an extra 1/4 inch out of a Maverick, you'll find that thread on NHQ, it was something about rebarreling a Maverick.

I think the best thing to do is just check how much further things will pull back after they're already primed, then decide what's preventing them from being pulled back further. In the case of the DTB, it was the shell that wouldn't allow it to pull back that extra half inch, and it had to be cut. On the NF, I think it would be the spring being fully compressed. The Maverick needed the catch reversed. I briefly looked at the Firefly, and I think the priming handle prevents it mostly.

For most guns, I wouldn't reccomend extending the plunger pull, just because your probably going to send the plungerhead flying off. Some guns however can have a larger plunger pull.

Just a quick thing I wanted to mention to you about your DTB mod. If I remember correctly, you didn't fill in the original notch in the plunger rod. I'd recommend you do, simply because if you're trying to get off a quick few shots with that, it'd be annoying if you ave the two catches, because sometimes you may catch on the first one, then the second one, then a few of the first one and so on. You'd end out with shots at varrying ranges

I was aware of the DTG mod, actually I got the idea from it, I just hadn't read through it recently, so wasn't really familiar with it anymore.

Sure it'tl work. It might break your gun, but anything you do could.
