Hey 'Haven. So I recently finished my first Doomsayer, and other than stabbing myself with a box cutter, it all went great. However, when I got to shoot the thing, the ranges I get are pretty dismal for a gun I was hoping to get 80 feet out of. The gun is barreled with OMC's PETG, and has a Longshot spring in addition to the original spring. Any idea's to improve ranges?

Maybe it's the seal or the way your barrels are glued/attached on.

How is the seal from the plunger tube to the turret? You can be loosing a crap ton of air pressure there. Make sure it lines up and makes a tight seal.

Did you put any tightening rings in your PETG? They do assist with looser fitting darts.

Did you wrap the plunger head to improve the seal there? All that power in the springs needs a tighter seal at the plunger head to be effective.

If it is neither of these then I would have to see a picture of the internals to make further guesses.

What kind of LS spring? Just an LS and original spring will only get you up to 70, that is of course, if the seal is good. I know the original LS spring (The silver one) is more powerful than the new black one.

I'm glad to hear that you managed to build a Doomsayer. You say your ranges are "dismal". The word "dismal" doesn't give me any relevant data to help you. Is it shooting 30 feet, or is it shooting 70 feet? One of the first things I'd check is your darts, since that doesn't require opening up the gun. Springers tend to require a tighter fit than air guns. So, if your darts can fall out of your barrel, that could be your problem. If that fails miserably check the seal on your plunger, as well as your barrels to make sure you're not losing any air. That is all that comes to my mind at the moment. I hope I've helped.

The seal between the turret and the plunger tube is the most important part. It's probably your problem. My Doomsayer's ranges went up 90 feet with the addition of a single o-ring.

But we need more information to help you. Pictures would be great.

There are many key things that can make or break doomsayer. Have you done a halfassed version and you are still calling it a doomsayer or have you done all the steps? can you post some pictures of what you have done so we can get an idea of what you have actually done? The plunger needs rebuilding and lubing, the turret needs a good seal. The spring combo I'm sure will get you the ranges you are looking for.
Dart fit is another important thing. Maybe your barrels are too long. Maybe their too short. I use 8" barrels with mine. Others have had better luck with longer barrels.

So after reading your responses over, I'm almost positive that the great majority of my air is being lost in the plunger tube/turret seal. That was the least well done part of my gun, and I seem to have paid the price for it. Thanks for all your help, and I'll go and fix that up.

At Wal Mart in the plumbing section you can find a mixed pack of O-rings for like a buck-fifty. The medium sized ring in that pack fits the lip of the plunger tube perfectly. Super glue the o-ring to the plunger lip and you will have a great seal. That is all I did on mine and it works great. No need for the huge amounts of hot glue.

Thanks a bunch for the pictures! Unfortunately, out of the FOUR sizes of oring I bought, none of them fit the plunger Ah well, I'll keep working at it. Hopefully that, along with the JB weld I used for a seal, will improve these ranges. Thanks for the responses mates.

Just run to Wal Mart and go to the plumbing section.

This 6 pack has the perfect size washer in it and only run about $1.50
