So my recon boltsled broke over the weekend and I decided I want to single it. Now don't get on me about how I am ruining the rate of fire because the boltsled is literally shattered and it's not worth putting it back together. Anyway I am modding it just like you would a singled longshot but I have come across one problem. The sealing method is diffrent I have tried a duct tape seal but it really isn't working. I am a very simple modder and my seals are very basic (it gets the job done) however basic doesn't work with the recon. If you guys have any suggestions that would really help because I am totally blanking on ideas right now. (If it helps I still have the O-ring.)

Try electrical tape. That's always worked for me.

I'm going to have to agree with Bob on this one. The great part about singling a LS (I've never done one, but this is what I've gathered from looking at them) is that everything is there to make it easy to do. A large jam door to put in a new priming handle (the recon has almost no room for something like that). The plunger is not inverted, and thus can simply be pushed back with your cPVC (or what ever you're using), were as the Recon is inverted, and you'd have to swap out the bolt, and I'm not all that sure how easy it'll be to find something to do that with.
It may be best to just sell it for scrap and get a new one.
I don't know, I may just be full of it and this could lead to one of those fabled <70' ranged Recons.
But I too am now intrueged and if you do manage to get 'er up and running again, please post your results, I have a zillion Recons and love 'um like...uummm...everything that came to mind to finish that was vulgar, so I'll just shut up now.

It's not that it is hard to single a recon in my opinion it is just that it is hard to get a good seal out of it. While that may be a contradiction in itself is up for debate but I was just wondering what might work for a seal. I doubt I'll scrap it for parts just because there are not many parts left that haven't been molded to fit a singled recon. My picture provider is not being very friendly right now so pictures won't be up for a bit.

Once again the main reason I started this thread was to get ideas on a better seal than simple duct tape. E-tape may be an option but my supply has run dry. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank You Bob, Saladin and BRF726 for your suggestions.

Where is it leaking? Have you tried teflon tape? That stuff will work wonders. Are you using the stock bolt, or something eles?

Well I tryed it once and got some good results. I myself used electrical tape. I personally wouldnt do it again because the end cap on the priming indicator bar eventually snaps off. But when it did work it with stock darts hit 40 feet with a good amount of power behind it around waist level. So in my opinion I would buy another one.

So a broken boltsled? Well, mine broke, more like cracked where it connects to the actual bolt. I repaired it with 2 pieces 5/64 carbon fiber rod and two pieces of carbon fiber strips. This has held up after 50 shots, and now I am trying to prevent the issue of the inverted plunger breaking off at the end where it slams into the bolt. I will have pictures of that in my lessons learned write up.

I ditched the bolt entirely. I have CPVC coming out of the stock barrel which is linked to a minimized t coupler. The T coupler acts as a bolt and pushes the prime indicator back via another piece of CPVC. My problem is I don't know how to seal up the dead space between the cpvc and the prime indicator. I'll try some tape again and get back to you guys.

If you are talking about a first-gen Recon, without the black sleeve over the back end, then there isn't any dead space back there. It's a separate compartment that is already sealed. There is a relatively large dead volume in the bolt, but that is why the Recons suck... There is no way to fix that.

I recently modded my recon and went through hell to do it. If you are talking about the dead space BEHIND the bolt and behind where the ARs used to be, then you can get rid of this then you can use AnalogKid's pen/straw mod to do it.
I've done it. But I can't really tell you if it helps the ranges, because I added an extra spring(as in powerstock) after I had done it. What I can tell you is that MY recon is maxing out at 65feet(yes, that is slightly angled, but less than 10ยบ).

As for the seal to the plunger tube, use some sort of glue before you tape your cpvc in.

What about straw modding?

Straw modding is a possibility. However in my experience straw modding for the time and effort put into it, its not worth it. The range and reliability don't improve enough to justify doing it.

alright I believe I will give up now.

I tried dremeling out the back piece of the bolt (The piece that fit into the "prime indicator") it seemed to work fin the CPVC fit very well into it and it primed well. I got 45 feet flat but after a couple of primes the range began to steadily decrease. It really flucuates now. I just don't feel like working on it anymore. As a prop gun it is actaually kinda cool. Thank you for all the help but I think my recon was screwed to begin with. I did however get some success out of my newest recon. 45 feet with no AR removal. I swear this is not bs. I haven't opened it up yet and it already gets close to 50 feet. However, since it is totally stock it may just be the streamlines carrying.
