Hey everyone, I was wondering what video converting soft ware you guys recommend that converts .avi format to mp4 with good quality image. it can be free or pay-to-use, which ever. Just make sure it's reasonable($30 and under) Right now, I'm using WM converter. I think it's a free software. So, any recommendations?

I use "any video converter" It's free use but is able to upgraded to premium.

I recently downloaded the "Youtube Downloader" and it has been working well.

You can convert files that are already on your computer, or convert videos right after downloading them from Youtube.

hehe Darn it PointBlank you stole mine! But ya, DVD Video Soft Studios has a ton of free applications that work pretty well for all their random uses. I used about three of their programs in conjunction to get all of Chuck Season 1 onto my iPod. I highly recommended them since you have nothing to lose (it's free)

Personally I currently use AVS Video Converter 6
It's Pay to Use, but just once and it's life-time and it comes with pretty much every format to convert to use on all the players now-a-days~
(I have over "my fair share" of movies originally AVI now to WMV; good quality too to play on my Zune, and other formats for my lil sis's iTouch~ etc~)

I've been using youtube downloader for a year or so. It works great. You can convert videos into quite a few formats, and it's free.

I use prism video converter. I just keep downloading the 60 day free trial. I convert whole movies with it, and it works well. It does take a while to do, like 15 minutes a movie, but apart from that, no complaints.

MEncoder is great if you're not adverse to working with a command line. MPlayer's pretty nice too. Both are open source and free.

I personally use MediaCoder, a universal media converter. It will convert any format into any other format. The program is free.

I'm guessing you're looking to convert to mp4's for an iPod? When I had an iPod, the best software I could find for conversion ( usually I converted from VOBs, but I assume it's good quality for all conversions ) was Videora. I haven't used it in a couple years and the site has changed quite a bit but it looks like it's still free.

I haven't tried this feature from VLC, but there's a convert function built into more reacent versions. It might be worth checking out.

I use two programs. One is AVS video tools suite (build 5.6) and Ultra avi converter. With AVS you get a video converter, mobile uploader, Video Remaker and Capture Wizard (at least on mine). It takes any where from 5 minutes to 3 hours depending on file size and length of the video. Ultra avi converter works well to convert to .dvd format and other formats (i.e iPod, wmv, etc). It takes awhile (or at least for .dvd files.).

Videora is the best program for converting to MP3 players and it will also work for TV sized applications. Ignore the different versions of Ipod thing if you don't have one. I use a Zune with the Ipod classic program and it works fine.

I downloaded this earlier, and it's awesome. The youtube downloader it comes with is phenomenal too.

Oh man. I tried using this, and it was complicated. I couldn't understand it. I went to look on the web sites to figure out how to use it and the links all went to the same page. It made me mad.

EDIT: Also, couldn't I use PSPVideo9? Is that a good converter?

Fuck. I've determined that since you came to a NERF FORUM for help on a video conversion that you need something simple.

Just with programs. I don't know wahats out there these days. I tried many, but most of them suck. So I just need some suggestions. I'm pretty good with the hardware and some what familiar with OS.

Please tell me you're talking about having trouble to use SUPER codec, not Videora.

I installed the new Videora... as I said, I haven't used the program in several years. I followed the steps listed for "first time users" and I had a file converting from .flv to .mp4 in under 30 seconds. I'm not sure I've ever had such an easy time using a program.

However, I was a little disappointed with the ads plastered all over the program. I still think it's probably one of the better conversion tools out there.

Also, anyone interested in YouTube downloaders, but would rather get a Firefox addon, not a program should look at:
FlashGot - downloads pretty much any embedded flash media on any site I've ever tried to use it on.
Video DownloadHelper - doesn't work on as many sites, but it's a little more "point-and-click."

If you have a mac, Squared 5, and Tube TV are some of the best converters around. Both of which are free.

Quick Media Converter works like a dream for me. It will convert any thing to.... Anything really! It even converts to Nintendo DS video files..... I didn't even know you could do that! Oh jeez way for me to go off topic right there... But it's free and it's really easy to use. I highly recommend this. Converts whole movies in decent amounts of time. About 15 minutes would be a safe estimate for a good appx. 2 hr movie.
