ok, let's say I'm watching a movie on my computer. I want to take a picture of a scene in the movie. How do I do it? My OS is windows. If that matters...

well, you could use the printscreen button (Prt Scrn) That saves a picture of whatever's on the screen onto the clipboard, then you could pase it into a picture program. Other than that, there's probably some programs out there that can dissect movies into pictres.

There is a piece of hardware that people use for getting still shots out of video called Snappy.

I don't think he's talking about an analog video source, but rather a digital video that's already on his computer.

Besides, the absolutely amazing Snappy has unfortunately been discontinued.

That thing rocked...

Well, it was really good for a $99 frame capture device 5 years ago when it was made. Now you'll have trouble getting it to work with a modern OS and even finding a parallel port to plug it into. Besides that, there are tons of relatively inexpensive video capture cards now. My AllInWonder Radeon will do what the Snappy did, plus a bunch more and can be found for about the same price.

The best thing about it was the algorithm it used to extrapolate a 640x480 image from NTSC video. The images looked way better than you would expect.

There's a program called FRAPS, which is free up to version 1.9. It only works with resolutions up to 640x480 (for the free version). It also does video capture and I use it to capture stunts from GTA Vice City. I'm almost positive it does screen captures as well.

I don't know what the website is, but you could probably find it if you searched.

FRAPS is only used in games though. I suppose it COULD be used to catch movies, but I'm not sure. You can get it here. Good luck. There might also be some other good ones, I'll let you know shortly.
