I was lucky enough to receive a modified Small Soldiers edition SM500 . The pump has been pre-plugged and I have no idea how many pumps this gun can take before the tank explodes. I'm not excited about experimenting with something this valuable and rare. After searching older threads, I couldn't get consistent information about how many pumps this thing can take. If someone could tell me, I'd appreciate it.

Edit: For some reason the guy replaced the pump with one from a Powerclip, I'm not sure how much that affects things.

We're not discouraging people from joining a Nerf forum, we're discouraging them from joining this forum. It's an important distinction because, frankly, we don't give a shit. The Haven was created to escape the idiotic masses, now they're all here. -cxwq

I can't help with the number of pumps, but I would suggest buying a tire pressure gauge and adding it in the system. Most blasters will hold 60-70PSI without damage, though most OPVs are set around 30PSI.

Can't you un-plug it? I wouldn't take it past 4 at the absolute max, these guns like to explode real easy. I left both of mine un-plugged and I get very good power with no chance of explosion.

I think it was slug who said that you shouldn't pump your guns past 45 PSI. I might be wrong.

If unplugging the pump is a problem, you can always use an AT2K or hornet pump or something, leaving them unplugged. Pump until the OP valve goes off, plug it, and pump it once or twice more than it took to make the valve go off.

Nope, Slug posited that stock tubing and tanks should be able to handle up to 75PSI. I regularly take my magstrikes, big salvos, and titan up to 60PSI, and have yet to damage one.

Or buy a pump from some one who blew their tank already.

I can't help with the number of pumps, but I would suggest buying a tire pressure gauge and adding it in the system. Most blasters will hold 60-70PSI without damage, though most OPVs are set around 30PSI.

You can also buy OPRV's from mcmaster, at PSI levels you specify. Cheaper than buying a dial and all the necessary fittings (from mcmaster at least).

Can you show a link to one of those? I searched and couldn't find them.

How would that help? That pump would also have to be plugged to blow the tank.
Ok on topic I would just do what bpso86 said after all he actually has two of them.

I'm not sure about the pressures, but the ranges on mine max out at around 3-4 pumps. Pumping it 5 times allows me to fire the chamber twice, but I'm leery about pumping it that much.

Here is the one I just received last week. Link. Haven't installed it in anything yet, but it looks promising. In layout it's pretty much identical to the one in the pump heads of most air blasters. A little bit bigger than most, and all metal, but laid out exactly the same. However, without a gauge, you're still reduced to guessing pressures within the ranges of the supplied springs.

And as we've discussed before, you shouldn't really need any fittings other than one to go from the end of the gauge to the tubing. I build enough of my own adapters that I've found it very cost effective to own 1/8" NPT and 1/4" NPT taps. That way, I can plug pipes in all over the place.

How do you blow a tank with an un-plugged pump?

That's what I was referring to. Then you just specify a PSI level.
