Ideas:
- Small teams, around three or so
Last year we had large teams (5 or 6) and that sucked because they are too hard to coordinate
- Points
You kill someone, you get a point, etc. Haven't worked out the specifics yet. However, I want to incorporate an elemination system as well, as in when you get shot, you're dead.
- Short respawn times
I want to maximize fun and keep people interested. This was probably the thing that sucked the most last year.
- Safe areas
I really don't want to bring a gun to the ACT
I looking to fine tune this bad boy and get it started. I would appreciate any suggestions or past experiences! I know I have a story or two myself.

Everybody in the game is out for themselves; there are no teams, hence the players don’t need to synchronize their schedules.
The game’s organizers assign each player a single target. Imagine it like a giant chain; A must get B; B must get C; C must get D and so on all the way down to Z must get A. The organizers should keep track of who was assigned to kill who incase players leave the game or there are disputes (you are bound to have at least one per major game).
Assign each player their first target by giving them an index card with the target’s name on it. Each player can only hunt the person on their card. When a player assassinates their first target, the victim hands the assassin his or her own assignment card. The player is now hunting this new target. Each Assassin must carry a card with their current target at all times
Encounters are handled as such: If the assassin shoots their target (we only needed one shot) then they win the encounter. If the victim shoots the assassin before they themselves are shot then the assassin may not attack them again for a certain amount of time (to be determined at the start of play). Disputes are to be taken to the game organizers. Only shots between an assassin and their immediate target count so their can be no team ups.
Safety Zones: Anywhere or when on campus that the organizers feel would not be an appropriate place/time for the game. Class, sports game/campus, library etc.
Permission: You said “School” but I don’t know if that’s High School or College. As lame as it sounds I would advise getting permission from the appropriate authorities. Kids all over the country have gotten in serious trouble because school security or even the police were called when kids were seen sneaking around the bushes holding what look like guns. Also some schools expressly forbid the brandishing of even toy guns, in which case you are out of luck. But asking for permission is best in the long run. As I said our college actually sponsored our game as a Freshman Orientation event and later when we started a Human vs. Zombies game Campus Safety didn’t freak.

Then the second semester we do assassination, where we are given a target through facebook and have the highscores listed on there. Better yet, since you have to have a job, car (first semester), and a sophomore, we hold a bounty on the highscorer, depending on how high his/her score is. you cannot respawn back into the game unless someone has killed your assassin, so if the assassin is eliminated, the players he shot down are then resurected, the player who shot down the other players assassins will be rewarded a certain bounty depending on the assassins score.

Oh man, I had some good times with assassin. Getting people we know to set up those who we were against, waiting outside peoples houses and taking them out at the bus stop via driveby, and one time I even hid in the bushes outside the wrong house with my longshot for five minutes. And I have also shot people from my roof.
So does anyone have suggestions for my game?

First, Last year, the sophomores I live with played assassin in the dorm. You got your target, but you had to put a post-it note on their back instead...
Really what it sounds like is what we called "Senior Tag" at my high school.
Rules were this:
Each round lasts one week (Midnight Monday morning to Midnight Saturday night), Sundays off. Teams are 5 or 6. (My year is was 6, normally 5.)
The goal is to have more remaining players "in" at the end of the week. To get someone out, you had to shoot them with a squirt gun. (Some schools play with nerf guns, our school is always water guns). But, a player cannot get shot when: At school, on school grounds, at a school event (sports), sports practice, inside a house (unless the other team is invited in), but can get shot out at senior lunch. (Where seniors leave school to go where we want for lunch.
Two teams play each other, the winner advances tournament style. If there is a tie in the players remaining, rock paper scissors is done on Sunday to determine the winner.
Oh, and the kicker, if you're naked, you cannot be tagged out. (And cannot shoot.)
It was pretty ridiculous, you would follow people home from school, out at lunch, and otherwise totally be a creep. Fun as hell though. My team made it to the final four (of 34 teams) where we lost in rock paper scissors with 6 remaining players each because we got sick of it.

I don't feel the way I used to do.
I know its bad,
After what we had,
But I’m just not the angel you knew.

That one only works with Assassin games though.
They don't wear eye protection.
Nerf wars are different.

How so? You don't agree that all Nerf related games should have the rule of not aiming for the face?I like that one.25. Do not aim at a players face ( I DON’T want ANYONE getting hit in the eye)

No I do not agree.
If you want to discuss it further publicly. Open another thread and not hijack this one.

Teams of 4
Free For All
School campus and workplaces off limits
Those were the main rules. I bought a secret strike that I could keep in a pocket during school since I walked to and from every day (it seemed to shoot a lot further then the one I bought yesterday).
It was a good time, although the best part was the police officer the school had come in a couple days before the game started to inform us with a straight face that if he saw teenagers running around with Nerf guns he would probably "shoot first and ask questions later". There were quite a few upset parents after that one from what I remember.

Typical rules require a shot to the body. Limb, gun, and grazing don't count. Face is off limits. It can be played with nerf or water. I prefer nerf because these days you don't want to hit someone's iPod and end up owing them a bunch of money.

Not really...It's the same thing and being as you've publicly claimed that you aim for the face shows what you really think of the people you play with. Remember, you can't nerf alone.

I also like the body shot rule. That would have settled many arguments last time I played. But couldn't someone just bat away the darts with their hands?

We also run with a "government agency" that's gunning for assassins. If you get seen by another player while making a kill, dead players can now try to hunt your ass down. This makes stealth a big factor. Also, the only kills are against your target. You can only stun anyone else (they basically can't do shit for 15 minutes, so you can stun your assassin and get out of the area). This also makes the game last a bit longer. All the rules for all the games the Urban Gaming Club (nerf club) at Penn State uses are on their website if you want some more rules to base your game off.
