I wanted to modify a gun into an effective shotgun. So after coming up with a design I modded it and then wanted to see if anyone on NerfHaven had a better mod. I ran through all the mods in the directory and then proceeded to sift through the random junk people put up about the Big blast and found all other shotgun mods rather complicated compared to mine. To the point, here it is:

you need:

Big blast
2" pvc cap
1/2" cpvc pipe
Thick walled 1/2" Pvc pipe
Tape (Electrical or duck it doesn't matter.)
Drill and Drill bits
Hot glue and hot glue gun
hacksaw
screwdrivers (flat and Phillips head)

To begin, take the flat head screwdriver and pry off the orange ring attached to the front of the gun, Like so.

Posted Image

Next, open up the gun, it should be like this (If it isn't you have the wrong gun.)

Posted Image

Next, take a drill bit and drill a hole in the bottom of the pvc cap. You will need to make it large enough for the barrel post to fit inside of it snugly. (It is just easier to work with if the fit is snug as oppose to loose.)

Posted Image

Next, use the hacksaw to cut off the black post to half an inch above the dividing piece between the barrel and the inside of the gun. To ensure the post is short enough, put the post though the hole in the cap (which will rest in the barrel cavity) and about 1/4-1/2" should be inside the cap. It will look this.

Posted Image

Next, cut six 5" lengths of Cpvc pipe. Then cut 10 1/2" rings of the thick walled pvc pipe, they should look like this.

Posted Image

Take the pvc pipe and insert the cpvc pipe into the pvc pipe. It will be a tight fit but they will go in and stay in. do this on both ends of 5 of the lengths of the cpvc pipe.

Posted Image

Now use the hot glue gun to glue the pipe with the rings around the pipe length with out them. Do this on the top and bottom. Then wrap one end with tape to thicken the entire piece making it easier to insert into the cap. Seal all spaces on the taped end with hot glue (including the space between the pipe and the tape). It will look something like this if you have done it right.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Now insert the barrels into the cap tape end down. The tape adds thickness to the barrels making it easier to seal. Seal all the space between the cap and the barrels with hot glue. Ensure that it is sealed completely so you do not have to go back and fix it later.

Next, take the cap and insert the post into it. Seal the two with hot glue.

Posted Image

Now to improve on the gun. Take the pump handle out of the pump chamber. On the end opposite the handle there is a small hole, seal it with hot glue. By doing so you seal the pressure overflow valve which allows you to fill the air tank to much higher pressures than before.

Posted Image

Put the gun back together ( you may have to squeeze the front half of the gun in order to get a flush fit, the cap will be a snug fit in the former barrel cavity.)

Your done, here is what mine looked like. The one barrel is a little long but I was pressed for time and had to get the modification done in half the time it normally takes me, so its a little sloppy.

My ranges (Posted at the end) average to 77' for all six darts. They all landed within one foot of each other laterally, so the spread is 3-6 feet, I've used this in a couple of wars and it is accurate enough, and the spread is enough, that it is hard to dodge.

It's very messy, but I like it alot. Very functional I'm sure, and an indoor-war god. Nice mod again.

BTW: In your materials you wrote DUCK TAPE. Come on dude, DUCT TAPE.

The chances of one person taking a bomb on a plane are one in a million. The chances of two people taking a bomb on a plane are one in a trillion. So if you're scared of a terrorist attack, bring a bomb on a plane.

I just make really tiny darts and load 10-20 in my barrels. I laugh at the stupid person in the way. Nice mod, you should try the tiny darts though, they are fun.

I have a weaker version of this that I use for my indoor wars. Yes, it is an indoor war god.

DUCT tape would be a foil tape with a synthetic adhesive. It's called this because it's used on air ducts.

DUCK tape is any tape with a fabric backing and rubber adhesive. It's called this because it's waterproof... Like a duck.

Moving on, I see a growing trend in shotguns. Cool, somewhat innovative mod, but I'm more of a one-shot man myself. To each his own battle, I guess. As was said prior, this would likely be a great indoor weapon, but I can't say much for outdoor battles.

That said, I would hate to find myself face-to-face with that indoors.

Yeah, shotguns are excellent indoors, at short ranges. Of course, a single, well placed dart will do the same job. You usually use a shotgun when you can't afford to miss. My shotgun (a writeup is in the directory) can cover an entire hallway, but is more or less useless if the person has any kind of cover. They are made for a very specific purpose, one that isn't very conducive to outdoor nerfing. However, while I haven't personally tried it, a shotgun blast with enough range and spread would be fairly hard to dodge outdoors.

Not meaning to jack the thread, but get this from "A History of Duct Tape", by Johnson & Johnson Company, 1942.

Adhesive tape (specifically masking tape) was invented in the 1920's by Richard Drew of Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing, Co. (3M). Duct tape (the WWII military version) was first created and manufactured in 1942 (approximate date) by the Johnson and Johnson Permacel Division. Its closest predecessor was medical tape.

The original use was to keep moisture out of the ammunition cases. Because it was waterproof, people referred to the tape as "Duck Tape." Also, the tape was made using cotton duck - similar to what was used in their cloth medical tapes. Military personnel quickly discovered that the tape was very versatile and used it to fix their guns, jeeps, aircraft, etc. After the war, the tape was used in the booming housing industry to connect heating and air conditioning duct work together.

Soon, the color was changed from Army green to silver to match the ductwork and people started to refer to duck tape as "Duct Tape." Things changed during the 1970s, when the partners at Manco, Inc. placed rolls of duct tape in shrink wrap, making it easier for retailers to stack the sticky rolls. Different grades and colors of duct tape weren´t far behind. Soon, duct tape became the most versatile tool in the household.

Here's the link. Who'd have thought.

By the way, thanks for contributing something, Equilox. I thought for a moment that you only joined NerfHaven to stir up debate. A tad messy, but it isn't supposed to look pretty when it's delivering it's hurt. :)

Good stuff.

Shotguns are very fun though, they are nearly impossible to dodge in tightish quarters. We call tiny darts shotgunnies in our area.

SchizoMC wasn't being a dick. Try contributing something to the thread next time.

How about a Titan firing 15 darts around 60-80' with a 5-10' spread? Yes, is it hilarious, and yes, it is very hard to dodge. Takes forever to reload, though.

We're not discouraging people from joining a Nerf forum, we're discouraging them from joining this forum. It's an important distinction because, frankly, we don't give a shit. The Haven was created to escape the idiotic masses, now they're all here. -cxwq
