There is a huge difference between a solenoid and a solenoid valve.
A solenoid is merely a peice of metal moved through a tube by magnetic force.
A solenoid valve uses a solenoid to open and close. If you got a solenoid, yeah, you just got a peice of metal that can move back and forth.
Talio.

The black cylinder on top is the solenoid. The small black lever on the left is the manual bleed which accomplishes the same thing. The air enters from the right and exits to the left.
Someone asked in the other thread but this is a good place to answer - this one costs $10.99 at Home Depot. It's an Orbit WaterMaster 3/4" threaded automatic in-line valve with no flow control. Model number 57100.

Awesome, I'm thinking about making a shoulder fired tennis ball launcher so I wanted to know what to look for when I got to the Depot.
