Recently, I have been trying to make a homemade nerf gun that goes over at least 50 ft. Finally, I have made it. I am not sure about the ranges but it definetly reaches 50 ft because my house is 50ft from one wall to another and it hit the wall straight. I can still increase the ranges of this gun by a lot because I used 1/2 in CPVC. If you have seen uin13's "mu", on youtube, his uses bigger pluming materials but he uses a ball valve for that size of barrel. Since I use 1/2 CPVC, I used to use a 1/2 inch ball valve. Unfortunately, the opening and closing of the ball valve was not as easy in one hand, which decreases the ranges, so I decided to go to my hardware store to check out other ball valves. Lucky for me, I found one. The ball valve that I use is for 1/2 brass both ways. It fits perfectly over the 1/2 CPVC. Unfortunately, the brass ball valve is not a 100% air tight on the 1/2 CPVC so I used some hot glue to attach and prevent any air from escaping through the cracks. This is the final product.

This ball valve is the 1/2 inch CPVC ball valve. Its just there to hold the gray piece and the CPVC together. Nothing special about it.

Hot glue? I'm sensing a BOOOOOOM sometime along the line. What's the purpose of all of those T joints?

Doesn't look very safe with all that hot glue holding the pieces together. It also looks rather large too, but personally I have never really liked home made air guns but do whatever you want to do. Also whats with all the extra tubing at the bottom, it can't be very strong for air pressure since it looks like a vacuum tube.

What's the purpose of all of those T joints?

The purpose of the T joints is to enlarge the air tank by providing more room for the air to go.

This is confusing.

1. What's up with all the joints? I know you probably want to fabricate a stock or something to hold on to, or make it look crazy, but frankly, I come from the "keep it simple" camp. Basic pump to tank to valve to barrel stuff.

2. What's with hot glue? I highly recommend that you don't pressurize that thing up, if even it does hold pressure without leaking. Hot glue is NOT a substitute for PVC cement, which fuses the plastic together and makes a permanent bond.

3. That flex tubing/ vacuum hose, and the ball valve back there? Help me understand the theory behind that. Never saw something like that before, I don't see the role of the ball valve since that is still part of the open air circuit. Just looks like another restriction. And how does the hose react when you pump it up?

4. Grade "A" for effort. I'm still confused on how it works, if it even does work.

There really is no purpose of the ball valve at the bottom. It is just to attach the gray piece to the CPVC. When pumped, the gray piece just holds air. Nothing different like blowing up or anything

Meh I don't really like homemade airguns...more over I like springers but you do a good job (something I wouldn't be able to do if I tried that XD)

Using all of the T fittings actually decrease the performance of your gun. Use a piece of 1 1/2" or 2" PVC, and get rid of the hot glue! They make threaded fittings and PVC solvent for a reason. Even though you can't build up much pressure with a ball pump, there is still a risk of bursting, due to the hot glue. Trust me, exploding PVC is not fun.
