Tired of playing Capture the Flag with just a jacket? Kids keep stealing that squishy ball you use*? Well, I have the solution. Me and Split were talking about homemade obstacles for MCNO. I reread Captain Slug's Mobstacle Write Up and I got an idea. So for my 500th post, here's my first real Write Up. This is how to make CTF flags for a little under 10 bucks each.

What You'll need-
Tools
Hacksaw

Materials (All PVC fittings are 1/2 in)
11 ft of 1/2 SCH 40 PVC (1 long rod of 10 ft and 1 stick of 1 ft is recommended)
Epoxy/PVC cement
1 Bright Orange/Green T-Shirt (Red and blue just seems so... played out)
2 PVC end caps
1 PVC Male adapter
1 PVC Female adaptor tee coupler
3 PVC Tee couplers

First, cut your rod of PVC into
6- 1 ft sections
1- 4 ft section

Posted Image

Now Epoxy on a male adaptor to the 4 ft section.

Posted Image

Epoxy on a tee to the other end of the same rod.

Posted Image

Epoxy 2 1 ft rods to the remaining holes in the tee.

Posted Image

Epoxy the end caps to the end of said rods.

Posted Image

Now time to assemble the base.

Posted Image

Follow the picture to epoxy the base together. It shouldn't be too hard to follow. Make sure the threaded tee is in the middle, and as straight as you can get it.

Let those dry for 24 hours.

Now screw in the pole to the base.

Posted Image

Bam, you got the frame.

Feed the pole through a T-Shirt, and use some wire or string to hold the sleeves to the end. I used picture wire, because I didn't have string at the time.

Posted Image
Old Pokemon poster. I still love it. And my bulletin board of origami.

Make sure you also tie BOTH sleeves. I didn't when I took the photo. It makes it much sturdier.

Hopefully this'll make CTF rounds a bit more extreme, running around with a 5 foot flag pole.

* keef, silencer, and DX will get the joke.

If I can go. Right now, it looks like a low chance.

Nice, but I can defintely ee someone trying to unscrew and and just taking a dart to the forehead.

Great job though, CTF has always been my favorite variant, well and assault.

I just hot glued a small tarp to pvc and slamed it into the ground but yours is much more effiectient. How do you run away with it if it's hitting the back of your leg half the time because of the stand?

So stop with all the "new Recon" crap. This thing definately isn't a Recon, I'll wager my soul. Someone can quote me on that if they'd like

We use foam pool noodles, and they work well for us. They're light, cheap, big, and colored. We usually stick them in a tree or something about head height so you can grab them while running.

Here in SoCal Sword CTF or Ribbon Dance CTF seem to be game types we play most.

As far as Sword CTF goes, any blaster you are carrying becomes useless and the sword/flag becomes your only melee weapon. For swords we use MASHOONGA! which are pretty much name brand pool noodle swords with some sturdy polycarbonate rod in the middle.

And well Ribbon Dance CTF isn't mine to reveal yet, I think? But I think you can tell what we use for flags...

I hold the flag over shoulder, so the stand is in front of you. Alternatively, you can unscrew it and screw it back into your team's base.

If I may recommend something a little better, replace those threaded adapters for normal slip couplers. Doing that will fix the stand problem, while still keeping then upright.

I tried that before, but the weight of the base would fall of when running.

Put a strap on it, so you can wear it across your back.

I think he means that you remove the pole from the base. Carrying the base seems kind of dumb to me.

I think that was his point. He assumed (as I did) that the flag bases stay at the team bases, while the flag + pole is what's getting carried away. I can see how having base attached to the flag at all times could be helpful, but I think it would be much less awkward to carry without it.

Forget about ranges; range means nothing if your blaster is a giant rattle after three shots.

Heh. You could put noodles on it and whack people with it like they do on Runescape. Also, I think you could put stakes in the base to keep it in the ground and have another threaded coupling to keep the enemy's flag.

I use Mashoonga for a separate sport called Jugger. There is a link in my signature. Great work on the flags and I get the joke about the NJ war and the squishy balls.
