So from what I am use to seeing here on NH, the Big Bad Bow comes stock in the color purple. But today I was shocked to find that my local Walmart has them in stock, but they are red. I was a bit iffy about purchasing it thinking it was a redesigned, re-release, crappier, dumbed-down version of its predecessor. Which is the reason I didn't purchase it. (Also, didn't want the girlfriend to think that I was more focused on the gun rather than Valentine's day.)

Edit:: Forgot to post my question

Is the red one any different from the purple one?

And I will admit, I didn't use the search function for this particular subject, so apologies in advanced.

I don't know if there is a difference between the purple and red BBB, but I recently picked up and modified a red BBB and I'm able to get around the mid 80's consistently.

It's a great gun that's cheap, easily modified, and very durable. I would recommend getting it.

I think they nerfed the spring, stock, it goes noticeably less than my stock purple one.

Well no difference when you mod it but I did notice that it did not shoot very far at all with the missiles.

I noticed no difference at all between versions. I'm using exactly the same mods (internal CPVC coupler) and getting exactly the same ranges.

The only difference I can infer from the box is that, it only comes with 3 arrows, the purple target special ones come with 6 and is the same price as the red one :P

I have compared the red one to my purple one and the red one is weaker. But that doesn't mean that it is bad. I added a NF and two AR springs from the PistolSplat and I'm hitting 80-9' using a 9" 17/32 brass barrel nested in 9/16.

It shouldn't make a difference if replace the spring, which I highly recomend. Use a cut down +bow spring or 1 and a half ACE #49 springs for a replacement.

There's only two differences that I've noticed. The new spring is a little longer (maybe 3/4") and it's slightly weaker. Also the orange catch things that stick out the sides are thicker in the red one. I did a half and half shell, half purple, half red; and I had to sand out an opening in the purple side so that the orange piece would slide through.

20$

And I believe that the new red BBB gets slightly (ie: <2 foot difference) range. Could just be my BBBs being different than others.

It's a target exclusive, thus you can't get it from Wal*Mart.

The red version of the BBB is not a target exclusive the prices are so:

Toys R' US 23.99
Walmart 20.00
Target 20.00

Purchased mine from K-Mart ($20) did the standard AR removal. I didn't cut the tip, just shaved down the 4 nib things on the end, and RoseArt'ed the barrel. For some reason it doesn't fire the arrows as far as it did prior to the AR removal, but thats okay, It fires stefans and streamlines perfectly. Unfortunately, I am unable to find brass anywhere that isn't online. So constructing an Angel breech is pretty much out at the moment.

Which is okay, cause it'll let me figure out a way to design and construct my own style breech.... Oh the excitment.
