Just got this from a google alert:

NERF N-STRIKE RAIDER RAPID FIRE CS 35

(Ages 6 years & up/Approx. Retail Price: $34.99/Available: Fall 09)

As Hasbro’s iconic Nerf brand celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2009, get ready for the highest dart capacity NERF blaster yet. The NERF N-STRIKE RAIDER RAPID FIRE CS 35 is the next big thing from NERF’s popular N-STRIKE line of dart blasters and features a collapsible stock and new drum magazine that holds 35 darts and is interchangable with the NERF N-STRIKE RECON CS-6 and NERF N-STRIKE LONGSHOT CS-6. By holding the trigger and pumping, players can instantly transition between “single” fire and “slam” fire mode, unleashing a rapid stream of 35 darts. Complete with a removable shoulder stock and Tactical Rail System allowing players to customize their blaster for each mission, the NERF N-STRIKE RAIDER RAPID FIRE CS 35 also features a cool “digital camo” pattern unlike any NERF blaster before it.

Ok, that is awesome. 35!!? dart drum mag? Also, is this thing going to be an air powerd gun? No way... This sounds liek the most promising weapon description we've seen.

I think nerf could use a shotgun, like the Raider CS6 in the game. I really don't get why they changed it. Or they could be releasing that (CS35) as a separate gun, as I remember Hasbro getting patents for the CS6.

Oh my god this is going to be awesome! I can't wait at all!

Maybe when it comes out, someone could find a way to make the drum hold more than 35 inside.

It is the gun from the game, just with a drum mag. You can probably put standard clips in there.
Also, why on earth would u say this gun sounds promising?

35 isn't enough?

Sounds pretty awesome... 2009 definitely seems promising. Hopefully it comes out early summer, rather than fall, but either way, I have some high hopes.

No. It means pump it like a pump shotgun. You can either pump, pull trigger, pump, ect., or you can pull trigger, pump, pump, pump, and the gun will fire every time the pump moves all the way forward. There are a lot of airsoft and paintball guns with an "auto trigger".

The release date says fall 09 but, like the recon and everything else, will probably be out fairly early. I can bet anything that OMC knows something about this but is unable to tell us publicly due to his blood oath or whatever Hasbro has with him in return for telling him things.

I believe that the Recon was supposed to come out around fall, when some people actually found it in stores in early june. Though, I may be wrong about that.

EDIT: Ro-Sham-Bo beat me to it.

This gun sounds great! I like that you can switch between rapid Chainblazer style and single shot with the trigger. 35-round capacity is awesome, and so is confirmed compatibility between the LS and Recon. The only thing I'm not so excited about is the "digital camo," which sounds kinda lame. They should just stick with solid colors.

Does this have to do with the drum fed blaster that was recently brought up?

What does digital camo mean?

Also, I think when they say camouflage, they mean something like the SS SM5000:

ChiliPeperFender's "The Blue Tiger"

Though, that is not really "digital" camo.

Quick* opinion evaluation with the information that was posted:

Collapsible stock: Good/Bad**
Rapid fire: Good***
35 dart mag: Good****
Digital camo: Good/Bad*****

*

**The collapsible stock means that either 1) There's going to be a weak spring in it or 2) They came up with a better method of locking it into position or 3) It's going to be as crummy as it was on the longshot.

***Rapid fire with the trigger held down and being pumped repeatedly (here's where I do a bit of speculation) would probably indicate some form of catch and/or release on the priming arm to release the plunger once it has reached position (wherever) at the end of it's stroke, probably at the end of the forward motion. OR it may be that you actually have to move your priming hand forward as fast as the spring is decompressing, with essentially the same effect as removing the catch on a longshot or recon. Virtually worthless in that case, but highly unlikely. If the first option turns out to be the case, the I'm going to guess that this is going to be a real pain to try to modify with a mechanism like that (I've been brainstorming a way to make it work on a homemade and from what I've done it looks like this might be a beast to work with).

****35 darts in a longshot? That might be a huge inprovement over a super clip, volume-wise, but what is it going to take to make it accept stefans? A huge circular ring? As a thought, maybe a bunch of smaller trapezoidal pieces would work to conform closely enough to the curve.

*****Depending on the colors, they may make this the first gun in anyone's arsenal to get a paintjob, or it may make it look too real if you paint over/cover up/replace the required orange parts.

All in all, I'd say we're not going to have much idea what potential this gun has until someone can actually get it in their hands and mod it.

This thing could rock. Or bomb like the Vulcan (In our minds, it seems to have sold well)
Hopefully it's good. Nerfers are in need of somthing new to mod.
Now what we need are pics. I think I've seen it in LS style early N-strike blue on those "what gun is that" threads, but what will digital camo look like on it?

Off-Topic: What is bad about the vulcan?

On-Topic: Since it's the 40th anniversary they might be going back to some of the early blasters for ideas, like the chainblazer how you have to push the handle forward.

40th anniversary of what? or are you talking out of you ass?

And hey, a 35 round drum sounds cool. I will buy one, but thats about it. It sounds fun to mess around with.

And really, until it comes out, we just have speculation.

I'm expecting that Hasbro is simply trying to trick people who aren't educated or familiar on the working of a nerf gun with this "slam" mode.

I mean, think about it. Pulling the trigger would hit the catch, thus firing the gun when normally primed, right?o if you just held down the trigger then primed the gun, it wouldn't actually prime because the catch is already "activated". THis would eork with any multi-shot springer, or at least with the LS and Recon.

So you just hold down the trigger, prime it back and let go of the priming handle and it's shoot like normal. This means that you can pull back on the priming handle and let it go 35 times in a row simple because of this mag.

This isn't anything special. it's something that's been on all springers forever. Hasbro is now simply putting it as a "feature" on writing, in instructions to trick people to think this is actually something new.

Unless of course, holding down the trigger somehow triggers a full automatic kick-in which empties the drum clip and shoots all the darts fully automatic... but not likely. In fact, practically impossible.

What makes this gun different is that when you pull back the handle all the way, it releases the plunger rod but the handle stays put. This is how a Chainblazer or an Arrowstorm works. If you tried holding down the trigger on a Recon, it would not cock. If you just let go of the slide, it would shoot forward and chamber a dart, but then you'd have to pull back the slide again to prime/shoot. You can't just hold down the trigger and rapid fire.

The "slam" mode could be a for a mechanism similar to the Over-under

But on second thought, This gun could be another long-waited failure like the Vulcan
