Ok so, Im looking to make a barrel extension for the longshot to replace the shitty looking nerf one,
Also I cut that one up, took out the AR's and stuff and its not an all bad last resort weapon

Ok so the objective is to make this:

I liked the ideas in the silencer directions:
http://nerfhaven.com.../zero_silencer/

But it does not include the stock extension ring , like Captian Slug does in the pictures of his shotgun mod:
(middle of the writeup)
http://nerfhaven.com...?showtopic=7336
Using this ring will allow me to remove this at any time, which has innumerable benefits
So here are the elements:

Posted Image

I have 2 major questions for everyone:

Should I do on the inner part of the barrel to scale the size down
What goes in this grey area?:

Posted Image

The other question being what is the best way to connect the stock extension ring to the entire assembly.

Posted Image

Ideas Ive had for both of these, are for the inner part, continually descending pieces of PVC at the front and the back of the assembly to keep it light so it would look like this:

Posted Image
What are you thoughts on this solution?

For the ring my idea was to use a larger piece of PVC over the 1.5inch piece and over the orange ring to add strength with glue all around that
I dont like that solution it means buying more PVC that I will only use a small part of, and it also changed my ascetic

I understand many people might suggest not using the stock barrel, changing this to brass, and swapping out the internal barrel for brass or CPVC but for me this is just an ascetic mod. I'm very new to modding NERF so I dont want to do that many large internal changes. I plan to remove the AR's and add a NF spring later. But myself with only $15 in my pocket and a big war event a month away I don't want to destroy my gun.(haveing been recently fired I also am unemployed at the point)

I hope that this can be used as a springboard for other barrel extension mods, maybe one with brass or with CPVC something better then what comes with the nerf. The idea of a detachable barrel appeals to me, just not the one that comes with the gun.

Not sure about the other stuff, but since the apparent OD of the PVC and the ring are the same, couldn't you just use a modified coupler?

wow...thats a pretty damn good idea, I havent worked with PVC in so long I forgot that couplers existed
Would that be tight enough a bond?

Also thank you.

A coupler itself is never a tight enough bond. Use some epoxy or goop to hold it in place. Epoxy works best.

I have the Putty kind of Epoxy, rather then the liquids, but its a pretty big tub, something left over from my Warhammer 40k days
But I think the problem with this is that it would not be perfectly aligned and cause problems in the flight path?
Thoughts?

I would put spare fbr (or some sort of foam) in the grey area. It might muffle the sound. If it doesn't work, just take it out (don't glue the foam in untill testing its effectiveness). I can't say for sure if this will work, as I haven't had the chance to make a silencer yet.

I read this right out of the silencer mod.
http://nerfhaven.com.../zero_silencer/

"Wrap some tissue paper, kleenex, paper towel, or soft cloth around this drilled tube, and slide the sheath over this, making sure the material stays in place"

There is the answer to your first question.

To use the coupler idea you would have to cut off the protruding nubs on the extension ring off. Then you should get a 1.875" ID PVC or CPVC coupler that is as tight fitting as possible. I'd recommend using a thin glue to provide extra strength such as a liquid version of a cyanoacrylate glue (Krazy Glue or Super Glue).

EDIT: If you can, get a coupler with no middle ridge on the inside and sit the PVC pipe as far back in it as possible.

I wanted to try something more substantial then the silencer materials, and because this is a very exacting barrel extension I need it to be strong, and sturdy.

But I had an idea, Ive been milling over,
If im going to use a PVC coupler for one end of this thing why not stick a reducer in the other end:

Orange stock thing, inside A simple Coupler:
Posted Image
Then on the other end of that a reducer to ensure perfect Sizing.
Posted Image

That seems like the perfect solution....so simple, friggin Achems Razor, it just goes to show that I always do things the complicated way, and I suppose this is not an asset in NERF

Thoughts on this new idea?

Finished Pictures!
(Update)

Thanks for your help

Its just a coupler, a reducer, some sanding, epoxy and glue.
And it even comes with a marked decrease in range :D
Which is leading me to rethink the entire thing, maybe I can sand down the barrel...I'll just do the proven internal mods first....

Anyway thanks everyone, mostly for putting up with me through the thinking process

Good stuff. The finished product is much more compact then I thought it would be and looks very clean.

New members should learn from this thread. TheDisciple presented a concept, which is generally extremely erotic here, but had good grammar, pictures and a plausible method as to how to achieve it, he only needed help to brainstorm ideas as to how to overcome a problem with the concept (That being keeping the attachment straight and secure.). Rather than flaming him, everyone helped him along presenting possible methods as to how to solve this aforementioned problem and he achieved his goal.

I'd expect the decrase in range is because you added on that faux barrel. The LSFG Faux Barrel has a horrid fit on micro darts, and actually decreases range (just like the barrel extenstion of a recon).

You should probably trim down the faux barrel so that it's only as long as the actual silencer itself (plus the little end part with the notches and stuff). That might help a bit. How big of a range decrease did you get?

But does it actually silence at all?

This has no silencing effect what-so-ever. In truth I only included that in the subject because I was borrowing ideas from both the silencer directions and captain slugs silencer. Also the concept of a barrel extension that is also removable is akin to a silencer then simply a longer piece of plastic/PVC/brass.
As for the improved performance element, I didn't glue in the barrel, it fit tight with just a bit of elbow grease, and a rubber mallet. So at some later date I will replace both the internal barrel and the one in this extension, the more I read and the more mods I do, the more confidence I'm developing that I can do more complex tasks. Only time will tell if this brazenness is justified.

Thank you Blasphemy, I'm not sure how you can call what is in that first post good grammar going back and reading it now I have quite a few changes to make, I really shouldn't start threads while I'm tired.

Yeah, it could use some brushing up, so could some other peoples' grammar around here, but relative to your average noob it was perfectly comprehensible.

But it still fails to deliver on the title's promise of humor.

You see this, you see, this is why I should not make threads when im tired!
DAMIT
How does "Cosmetic" become comedic, stupid firefox, spellcheck *grumbles*

No more threads for a while, not until I do something useful to a gun, and then I check it 5 or 6 times, then I get someone else to edit
I swear....

*stomps off*

Edit: On second though, this could be seen as comedic if we look at it in a Freudian sense, all Ive done is attached a phallic to the front of the gun, that serves no other purpose then to be phallic, I must have mother issues buried deep in my subconscious.
