While nerfing with friends in town we use a few different locations; but none with adequate cover. I was considering making some of CS's Mobstacles, but some of our places are pure concrete. So I come to you nerfers with a question, what do you use for cover in areas where there is none?

Also, if you play capture the flag, what do you use for flags?

Haven't had the money for it yet but I am going to use inflatable paintball bunkers. I am a speedball player so using them for both paintball and nerf would be nice.

I need the same info. I gotta find cheap obstacles and cover for MCNO.
So far, I got The Forsaken One's tarp idea, some tables, and a shit load of cardboard boxes.

Go to hospitals and ask for boxes. Laser printers come in GIGANTIC boxes as do most medical supplies. Grocery stores will have some large boxes on hand as well if you ask nicely. Cardboard boxes are what my friends and I use.

We use tables in our church supply closet. The church has about 100 tables at hand we can use.

I've always used folding tables flipped on their sides, but these are problematic since have have to crouch way down for them to be effective, and they are a tripping hazard.

Cardboard boxes aren't very portable or durable. I'm looking for something I can break down it fit in a trunk of a car.

for a flag you could use a gardage bag tied to a stick, or pole.

Hey, thedarksideofnerf, please fix your capitalization. I (and a few other people) do not enjoy seeing or reading posts like that.

If you need something purely portable, use stuff like wood reinforced cardboard walls. Not much work, and easily dis- and re- assembled. For flags, I use whtever I find that is easily to store( Ie a sock or a plastic bag).

Oh my god this has to be the biggest durr hurr moment for me ever, that's so obvious I overlooked it. You got your tarps on ebay, right?

I was thinking of making flags out of a foot or two of pvc, but what to use for the flag? More tarp? Something durable preferably.

I made a set of flags using 1" thick wooden dowels and different colored bandanas. You can either staple the bandana directly to the dowel (which requires a strong paper stapler or better yet a staple gun) or sew a narrow pocket along one edge of each bandana to slip it over the dowel.

When the youth group at my church get together for our indoor wars, we usually play in the dark. For that purpose, we just use different colored glow sticks from the dollar store as flags - this makes them quite visible both when they are in position, and when they are being moved for capture. (We use a rule that the flag must be held up over your head while you run it home, so that everyone can clearly see it.)

We use Foam Swords for our CTF flags. When you're running the flag back, you can use it to hit opponents and block darts if you get lucky, but your gun is useless while you're holding it.

As for portable cover...I throw half a dozen or more yard empty waste trash cans and put them where needed, upside-down.

But frankly, the best way to make cover is to find a location that has some. Check out your local elementary schools.

Almost all of the elementary schools around here are very flat, hence the need for obstacles. WE found a nice circular park that suits out needs perfectly. For flags I made a pair of small boffers, and it works wonderfully.
