Well, fellow members of the NIC, I have an announcement to make.

Please humor me and allow me to wax nostalgic. About two years ago I created Arachnophobia and I saw that it was good. It was the beginning of an era. An era that brought many strange creations as I began an arms race with myself. Many of these creations never saw the light of day on the NIC forums and some never will. You see, after I created Arachnophobia, I needed to counter it for the sake of battlefield balance at my local wars. There was also a drive deep inside of me to outdo myself. I created Arachnophobia II, and while I had a ton of fun building and playing with it, something was still lacking. I went back to the drawing board and I spawned several original ideas. One of these ideas was the Marvelous Salvo, which was an integral part of one my favorite creations so far-- Arachnophobia Pistols.

Along with many original integrations, I found ways to improve my existing blasters, such as the Unfair Gun and what has been dubbed my "Foundational Air-Flow Mod". About the same time I shared that most recent idea with the NIC, I mentioned a base defense system, part of which is the Semi-automatic SuperMaxx 3000 (or SSM3K). Most of this reflects truly original thinking on my path to superior foam flinging, and with my latest creations that were part of the Base Defense System (originally called Assault Suppression System, but I had some problems with the acronym for that), I thought I had reached the end of my journey. I had planned to post a full write-up/description of this, but just imagine a large massing of fixed guns capable of pivoting 360 degrees on a vertical axis and over 180 degrees on a horizontal axis (giving a virtually full range of motion). It had a combination of Blast Bazookas capable of firing six rounds in as many seconds without any range loss, the SSM3K's, automatic blasters, as well as shotgun burst blasters. Perhaps some day I will actually divulge this in full detail, but alas, I digress.

As I was saying, I felt as if I had created the unbeatable. Well, as anybody who actually NERFs knows, that doesn't make for a very fun game (at least after the novelty wears off). So, I had to beat it. Essentially I would have to create something that was a mobile turret. I brainstormed and just minutes ago I concept tested my solution. This NERF blaster is designed for one thing only...

...ASSAULT! I'm quite sure that it will serve its function well. It isn't designed for sustained warfare, just one all out, no holds barred blitz on the enemy's stronghold. When charging, there will be no other blaster you'd rather be carrying. If you're wondering what sort of blaster this is, let's just say it can unleash a lot of foam very far, very quickly, with sufficient accuracy. Don't worry, you'll get to see it soon. Barring acts of god, I will have at least a description with photos posted within the next week and a half.

So, why am I monologuing for paragraphs about something that I'm not even going to show you right now? Because this is going to be the last modification I post for quite some time. While I am bowing out of the arms race I've been having with myself, I will continue to NERF but I will be having a much less active role here on the forums. Many may have already noticed that I've not been posting much and that's because I'm busy getting ready for what will be taking me away from my beloved hobby...

...the U.S. Navy. I will be attending the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Power School in Charleston, SC. On February 8th, I will be leaving for training and I will not be able to access the forums for a couple of months. After that, my presence will be sporadic at best. The Nuclear Power School is the most rigorous program in the U.S. Military and I will be studying nuclear physics and the naval applications at a very fast pace, leaving little time for anything else. I will be spending what little free time I have with my family. I do hope to make it to one or two east coast wars this Summer and hopefully I'll get a chance to see the S.O.F. crew.

So, this is my farewell thread. I'm proud and excited to both serve my country and receive excellent training in the United States Navy. Since childhood I've dreamed of being in the military, and after four years of college (which unfortunately I paid for) I finally made the plunge. I wish you all the best in your NERFing endeavors and all else that you attempt.

Your Brother in the NIC,
-imaseoulman

I salute you good sir! A shout-out to you and those servicemen and women at home and abroad serving our country.

Try and make contact once in a while will ya? It's always good to hear from nerfing brethren in the armed forces every now and then.

Nerf On (when you can ;) )!

Thank you Shadowblade. Every "thank you" means a lot to me. I'll definitely stay in touch as much as possible, but it will be kind of hard to log onto the NIC when I'm hundreds of feet below the ocean's surface. I'll mostly likely be on an Ohio class submarines.

Thank you for making the choice to serve our country.

It's always a sad day when we lose such a contributor to the NIC as yourself. I always looked forward to see what kind of crazy and unique mod you were going to post next, but I wish you the best of luck in the navy.

And maybe in a few years or maybe more you can post one of those crazy awesome mods you were talking about. ;)

And that will be when he jumps into the anti-aircraft turret, shoots the chopper down, and follows up with a good old fashioned barrel tap.

But seriously, I hope your training goes well, and we can't thank you enough for serving our country.

Best of luck, hopefully I'll see you at a war this summer.

Funny, it's not the first time someone who nerfed in MN got occupied with the military. I'm talking about Messiah of course. It's sad to see you go, I wish I had been at SPANO 07' with you.

Rock on! Wait, what? Canada has a military? Do they even make their own choppers? Just kidding, man. Do yourself a favor and maintain top physical shape so you don't have to get back into shape like I have. I've been running up to eight miles a day and I've lost twenty-two pounds since September.

Thank you for making the choice to serve our country.

It's always a sad day when we lose such a contributor to the NIC as yourself. I always looked forward to see what kind of crazy and unique mod you were going to post next, but I wish you the best of luck in the navy.

Thank you for the kind words. I do hope that I will someday post more original ideas. I should have plenty of thinking time on the sub.

Ohio class eh? Pretty big suckers. If you could/be legally allowed to, would you be so kind as to take pictures?

Probably not going to be able to do that. Definitely not in the area I'll be assigned. I'm not even allowed to take my study materials off the campus because the information in them is classified. But yes, they are big. And they can stay submerged as long as the crew has enough food to eat and it carries enough firepower to destroy any country in the world.

While I have no desire to join the military, I respect your's. I hope I can shoot you at least once before you're gone.

There's a good chance. Atlanta isn't too far from Charleston. We may even be able to carpool up to one of the bigger of wars together. Seriously, let me know if you'd be interested in that.

Hahaha. Hope I get to meet you too.

Do they give contributor status to people who we know are taking a less active role? Shame if they don't; I always thought you'd be one, if not the next one. I love all of your creations, and excitedly await this next machination. I feel the same way about 1upping my self, and from your description, holy shit.

And thank you. I do indeed <3 my freedom, and who would I be to not recognize that that wouldn't be possible without people like you.

Thank you. You better believe I'll do my best. I plan to graduate nuke school top in my class.

While it would indeed be an honor to receive contributor status, I don't see a need for it. I don't think there are any privileges or abilities that come with it. I think that people just take you more seriously. And already I feel like what I say about air powered blasters carries a fair amount of weight.

I'm glad you feel the same about 1upping yourself too. It shows. I've long thought of you as the "up and coming" modder, but perhaps you've passed that. I'd say you've cemented your reputation as a serious modder. You're one of the greats, in my opinion.

I <3 freedom too.

It is rather unfortunate that I've not been around long enough to appreciate your work better. However, what you have done with the Arachnaphobia line has inspired many of the integrated abominations we've made.

As to your non-nerfing future, I wish you the best of fortune.

Thanks for making your own creations. I think you're really onto something. Keep it up.
But yeah, the MN NERF scene really exploded not long after I left. Maybe some day I'll get a chance to drive by on one of many travels (ironically I'll be traveling less over the next two years than I have been over the last five years).

Here, here! Nuclear Power School, eh? That's some heavy stuff. Does this new "siege" blaster invlove firing irradiated stefans? Kidding! As with what everyone said, I love my freedom as much as the next guy, and it's guys like you who make it possible.

I'll have the Big Salvos in stock until I leave. As long as you make payment before I leave, I can have my wife send them. Now that you've reminded me about it, I need to update that thread.

Thanks for all the help imaseoulman. The arachnophobia has already become my favorite weapon of choice in the arsenal. I'll take good care of her.

I hope you still stop by on ocassion and stick with the hobby.

Just to clarify, he has an Arachnophobia Pistol, not the original. I don't know if he could afford the original. It has sentimental value and took A LOT of work to make.

They are a good indication. I'm a pretty cool guy. :)

As to your non-nerfing future, I wish you the best of fortune.

You have plenty of time to appreciate it. Just follow the links in my original post in this thread. It's some of my best work.

Thank you, for what you've done for this little community.

And thank you, for what you're planning, for the much bigger community.

My brother tried to take that route in the 1970's, and it's amazing what insignificant little things can disqualify someone. That is one tough assignment to reach for; I hope you make it, but you are to be congratulated for even trying.

Yeah, it requires the highest test scores (you have to be in the 85th percentile or higher), but beyond that, the background check is pretty thorough, and medical for any position can be pretty strict. And if you accidentally contradict yourself on different forms, forget about it. You're done.

But yeah, I'm excited for it. Academically, I'm more than prepared, and I've been working very hard physically that the only problems I'll really face will be mental.
