I voted for outdoor, but now that I think about it, indoor can be better. My initial thoughts were comparing nerfing outside to nerfing in my apartment. My apartment is really big for a one person apartment (~600 Sq. Ft.), but that isn't much room for nerfing. If it were nerfing somewhere like a medium sized school, it would be amazing, and I would probably choose it over nerfing outside, with exception of some occasions when it's nice to get outside and play just because of a really nice day.

I'd love to have a nerf war at my old school because it was the perfect size and had so many rooms, I wish I could convince my old principal to do that.

I would love to nerf in a school... Sorry to restate that. :)

Indoor:
-Moves faster
-More possibilities
-More Cover
-CQB
-Lighting & Weather

Outdoor:
-More room
-Harder to be hit
-More people
-Long-range engagement
-Weather like rain makes it a challenge (I like nerfing/paintballing/airsofting in rain...)

Outdoor is awesome when I have plenty of darts and I do not mind loosing a few. But it is cold out now, so I am stuck inside. It would be godly to have a battle in a mall or school.

Image a nerf war in a mall with like 5 to 10 thousand people... That would be the war of all wars.

Indoor is winning?

Seriously?

WOW.

I'm curious. Does anyone take photos of indoor wars? How many major wars are indoor? I can think of one, and it's in a gym in Canada.

Indoor wars are fun, to be sure, but the possibilities are ENDLESS outdoors. You say there's too much opportunity for long-range standoffs? That's not hard to fix. Find a schoolyard with cover, and make the boundaries smaller. Long hallways REEK of standoffs. At least you can flank outdoors...indoor wars are just ASKING for several hour-long engagements because everyone's camping in dark rooms, etc.

I know there are plenty of people who make indoor wars work...but in a community like this that THRIVES on outdoor play...how did this poll wind up like this? The only indoor war I'm planning in the near future involves some finagling with the local Lazer Tag arena...

You obviously have never had a truly good arena. The basement of my university's student union is amazing for small wars of 6-10 people. These wars also tend to be very quick. Like, 20 rounds in a matter of a few hours quick.

Indoor wars have one horrid problem that makes them bad for major wars. They have a limit of people. Once you get 20 people, most indoor areas are starting to get a bit crowded for nerf. Outdoors if the area you are fighting in get crowded you just spread out.

Indoors keep you up close and personal for gunfights, there is no real choice for anything else. Standoffs in hallways aren't as bad as normal either. One player moves forward the other has to move back or fire. Well, in a hallway, you can't move back very far. And if you fire they can duck behind a door way. Limited area forces you to move more. So you are less likely to just stand there for twenty minutes.

WE: The modifying/skilled nerfers like to modify/use skills and they can be best shown, where class?, yes, OUTSIDE.

Everyone else likes indoor nerfing since it requires little skill, time, effort and people, some of the main reasons why people choose nerf.

However, since we like nerf, we want to modify/use our skills and get tired of playing in the same house or dealing with parents all the time, so we go OUTSIDE.

It's a paradox in and of itself. Have fun indoors, but have our time and effort wasted OR Have fun outdoors where there are less people and less fun places.

I have to lol at that. 100' by 800'? That would mean that the gym is a third of a football field one way and almost 3 football fields the other way.

I think you are generalising just a bit there. Yes, playing with a few friends in a house takes little time, effort and people, but there can be skill involved - if all of the participants possess said skill. Add to that the fact that many of us who play indoors (myself included) do so with larger groups and in larger facilities (a church, dorm, student building, gym, warehouse, etc), and your argument here falls apart. Yes, stock and lightly modded guns do see more use in these situations, but that just means that they are more accessible to people who don't have the time/money/tools/etc to modify high-powered, high-ROF primaries. *

From what I've seen & read, outdoor matches tend to be a mix of long range standoffs and high-speed rushes, with the primary skills involved being accuracy, dodging ability and quick reloading (which can be improved by a better ROF on your weapon.) Indoors, accuracy and dodging are much less of a concern (you don't tend to engage at ranges past 30-40 feet in most cases, and at that range it is difficult to dodge anyway). However, that doesn't mean that there is no sill involved in a good indoor war.

As I hinted at above, there is a lot more use for stealth when playing indoors. When your lines of sight are obstructed by numerous walls, doors, columns, etc. it can be more difficult keeping track of where people are, and if you are able to move quietly and quickly, you can easily catch people by surprise - which can gain you precious seconds to make a better shot. This also adds to the paranoia factor, which in my opinion makes for a more exciting game. (I know some people prefer the run & gun of outdoor play, but since I'm an out-of-shape 30 year old, I tend to get less enjoyment from that, even if it would be of greater benefit to my health!)

* I often see the vets here touting the mantra that "the blaster doesn't make the nerfer". If that is true, then we shouldn't even be talking about modifications in this discussion anyway.

It's a paradox in and of itself. Have fun indoors, but have our time and effort wasted OR Have fun outdoors where there are less people and less fun places.

So, just because I'm playing indoors, I'm wasting my time? That's a bit harsh, don't you think?

Generally, people only have access to one or the other in terms of nerf venues. For that reason, this argument is prett moot.

I think you mean a "moo" point. Because a cow says "moo", and what a cow says doesn't matter. Right?

I'm sorry, but this post just makes me angry.

On your first statement: that's not what Nerfing is about.

On your second statement: You're way, way off.
