I recently purchased a SF and we all know they're leaky.

I remember a couple SF help threads, but I suck at searching. If there are in fact SF threads, please direct me to them.

On to the problem: It came leaky so I do not know what happened to it before I bought it. I'm assuming the pump is plugged since I can pump it over 5 times. The main problem is the left barrel when peering into the front immediately lets the air out when I release the force applied to the pump. In other words, I pump it and it leaks when I try to pump it again. The right barrel seems to work fine because it creates a nice pop when fired. I have not done anything to it besides pump it a few times to observe the leak. I'm guessing the valve in the front of the chamber is somehow out of line and it opens prematurely.

THanks for any help, Alec

Does anyone else recomend nerfer9's solution?

Get some silicone spray, pull the trigger, spray into BOTH barrels (to prevent leaks in the other one), point at the ground, and pump. Leave to sit for 24-48 hours andsee if the leak has stopped

I thought you were supposed to pump into the pump shaft/pump tube and pump into the gun and fire not the other way in.

As people do with gaskets you can keep it in water or fill the tank with water and let the rubber soak it in do this repeatedly until it's totally leak free. Silicone spray might have the same effect. I don't know.

@Blue: That's the same SF that I have. I purchased it from chefdave

I have concluded, it's not exactly a leak....it holds air only when I apply pressure to the pump all the way in the starting position. I pump back, and hold. After I pull forward, the air immediately jets out the left barrel as previously mentioned, so it's not exactly a leak. This is more like it firing prematurely.

I REALLY want this thing to work so please pass forth any help or advice. Especially backing up other peoples solutions.

P.S- I did try lubing it up with silicone spray, and solid lube. It didn't do much

Well, it may help to understand how a SF valve works. Dumpster killed his, with a hammer probably, and gave me the mangled remains, which I am dissecting now. Im going to post pics tomorrow or the day after to show the NIC the internals of a SF tank.
When I owned that same sf^ I poured a capful of mineral oil down the pump, pumped 10 times, fired, (do not fire it at anything you don't want oil on) and left it overnight. It worked, but dumpster screwed it up somehow. I would reccomend doing this.
Hope this helps.

MSDFS, I would be very glad to see internal pics.

I had a leaky one that I couldn't fix to save my life. The mineral oil (which has saved one or two of my SF's) didn't help. I was about to dissect it to see what I could learn, but eventually I discovered that it originally had two leaks. The mineral oil fixed the barrel leak, but there was actually a few small holes on the tank itself. It appeared to have been nicked by a dremel bit or something and whoever was working on it, went a bit too deep causing a number of almost imperceptible leaks which combined caused a debilitating leak. I just covered it with super-glue and the problem went away.

So, long story short, I never dissected a SF (one of the few air guns that I haven't). Internal pics would be greatly appreciated.

UPDATE: I really need some suggestions...I've tried various lubes (for the gun) in the barrels and up the pump. The seal seemed to improve the very first time, but its is pretty much the same other than being lubed up (the gun).

Like I said, if there was a way to keep the left valve (looking down the gun) pushed up against the front, it would probably hold air fine. For some reason it might be misaligned or slightly pulled back...

I really have no idea what to do...I may consider autopsy-ing it, but I would waste one perfectly good barrel...

Thanks a ton

I never got around to trying this but I thought this might fix it: you could completely seal off the right barrel and then pressurize the chamber, it might reseal the chamber.
Or I thought you could attach the barrel, apply negative pressure (I won't say how do to risk of being added that hilarious quote to my signature, while playing with my butthole) to the barrel and pump it hoping to seal the chamber.

Good luck :D
